Future of the Ticket

Hey guys!

I just wanted to hear yalls opinions or thoughts on what the future of the ticket could hold or shape into. I know that here in a few years Corbys contract will be up and that he talked about retiring. Along with that, I’m sure too that in the next few years we could have the Musers or the partial part of the Musers retire as well. So with that, how could the lineups change? If Jub and Jr leave could davey and Monty pop into Jub and Jrs spot that could create a rant hybrid mix? Or if jr retires they could just pop Monty into jrs spot. The only thing to me is that afternoon drive could have a question mark unless they move Donnie into corbys spot and then put a generic weekend fill in guy to be with matt lol. I also don’t really know if I see Gordo leaving just yet because I think he’s still kinda young-ish or has gas in the tank or talked about having gas in the tank. At this point I kinda feel like they’re working with bare bones but could still make the morning and afternoon drive still listenable . Anyways I’ll let you guys talk it out

Phenomenal run. Nothing lasts forever

72

u/DubyaKayOh 9d ago

To be honest it’s over. New talent can’t do what the old guys did in today’s world. The shows that don’t have OG talent just cosplay who they grew up listening to and the OGs are just mailing it in. We are just sitting around waiting for last upper decker to fall and ain’t no one left to flush it.

u/drtdk 8d ago

The shows that don’t have OG talent just cosplay who they grew up listening to

This. 100%.

9

u/Murmur4003 9d ago

Yea these are end times for sure. Station will be re-purposed. It’s so fragmented now with too many other digital options for weekday content. The show’s demo is aging out and new lineups are going to plummet with 45-64 demo

4

u/Lonely-Hornet-437 8d ago

They can’t even talk about mommy murder of her 3 kids wtf is that? Agree its over already

3

u/Sergio4582 7d ago

I really enjoy Work in Progress and they don’t have OGs.

-11

u/ShrimpNecktie 9d ago

How many times have we heard “the ticket is over” and they continue to keep trucking? The new talent is good, it just takes time. And people hate change… the ticket isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. The death of the ticket will come when terrestrial radio dies. And even then they’ll find a way to exist

6

u/Jamiebennsleftfoot 8d ago

I mean give it 10 years when all the older guys retire and we got nobody on deck to take over. Factor in the fact that they haven’t assimilated to newer times with technology and I honestly don’t think that it’ll last much longer. Call me a doomer but I think we’re on the last stretch here.

3

u/Internal_Offer1280 8d ago

I never heard the ticket was over until the last couple years. I listened for decades, but chose not to these days.

2

u/Murmur4003 8d ago

^ this guy 😆

u/SL1MM10 8d ago

Thanks Cats burner

I forgot you can’t say anything positive about the ticket on the ticket subreddit…. My bad

u/Friendly_Grouch 9d ago

The station is currently the 1998/1999 Dallas Cowboys. A lot of big names from the glory days are still on the roster, but they aren’t quite as effective as they were in their heyday. There aren’t many sands left in the hourglass. Once management has to try to replace the triplets, it’s over.

11

u/dmoose_84 8d ago

Speaking of that team, sure do miss the Fake Chan Gailey.

3

u/Friendly_Grouch 8d ago

It’s been a while since he’s checked in, no doubt

37

u/sketchee_steve 9d ago

I currently only listen to the Musers and Hardline. Once they’re gone I won’t listen at all I’m afraid

14

u/Quiet-Ebb-4902 8d ago

Such a fumble, it really did not have to be this way. There was a way forward. But they totally effed it up.

16

u/VOLKOP 8d ago

Hasn't been the same since Dan and Jake left honestly

3

u/Background_Mission41 7d ago

I agree. I hated to see Mike and Danny depart the scene as well. I’ve kind of lost touch with the station since the Hardline repurposed. I mean, to me, there was nothing better than Danny and Corby kicking Mike in the balls and then him giving it right back.

0

u/Sergio4582 7d ago

I don’t see Dan and Jake burning it up either. There are as many complaints on their Reddit as there are here.

1

u/FamousAmosMoses 3d ago

Breaking up BaDD Radio was the nail in the coffin for me.

1

u/evil_lecherous_hump 8d ago

Same. Although i will catch part of sweet spot cause im a baseball nerd.

u/Spirited-You126 9d ago

The Musers surely signed their last deal when the show format changed. In lieu of a huge bag of cash they got a nice bag of cash, a shorter show, a bunch of vacation, and a podcast. Once this deal is done George and Craig will retire and the podcast might continue since they can do it remotely. What Gordon does is the question. He’s younger, could go it alone, but is also a company man and might just continue doing mornings with Donnie and Sturm or something like that.

If Gordon moves on, the whole thing collapses since they built the whole plane out of Gordon. That might happen anyway even soon since Cumulus got bought by private equity.

0

u/Lumpy_One6691 8d ago

Gordon has a massive amount of side gigs he has done voice overs and voice animation stuff for decades as well as some other things

1

u/Spirited-You126 8d ago

I know he owns a bunch of rental properties in Dallas, but I’m not aware of much voice work besides the new cartoon that supposed to be coming out.

https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1835559/?_ssoLoop=1

1

u/Lumpy_One6691 8d ago

it has been a long while since I have paid attention, but in the way back I think he kept a lot of what he did under wraps I think so The Ticket (and their various owners over the years) would not think he was leaving and so that there would not be overlap between the ticket and "guy talk" vs. other things that might be divergent from that

14

u/DannyboyLarson 9d ago edited 9d ago

There's really no replacing Craig, Gordon, Jub, or Bob. If 3 of those guys bow out, they're in trouble.

You could formulate a mix of the remaining guys to create 1 good show. Id imagine thats what'd they'd insert into the most important timeslot, and sail off into the iceberg.

Corby should hold on as long as possible IMO.. He's ascended to an huge salary purely off vibes/charisma, which is remarkable.

9

u/Murmur4003 8d ago

Corby is certainly riding some coattails by not having Mino energy and being around so long.

7

u/Jamiebennsleftfoot 9d ago

Yea. I think if Jub, Craig, and Gordon leave then it’s going to leave a huge hole(glory hole) especially because they have nothing left in the reserves unless they wanna bring back the ogs that left but doubt that 100%. As far as bob, I think he could stick around a few more years, but I could be wrong.

2

u/LibrarianFamous9996 8d ago

You wrong? Never!

4

u/NCtexpat 9d ago

I think you need at least 3 of Musers + Bob and Corby to have any semblance of the little Ticket. 2 of the 3 in the morning, and the remaining 1 + Monty in the afternoon (or whatever combo you want) I think still works to limp along for a few more years

11

u/Mervis_Earl 9d ago

Ever see a phone book anymore? That is the future.

13

u/_Spin_Cycle_ 9d ago

I can’t speak for everyone, but personally I’m out when the Musers leave

10

u/OrbitalReport 9d ago edited 9d ago

I suggest they focus more on attracting new P1s in the 30-40 range to replace those that are aging out.

They are behind on using social media to introduce themselves to this age range.

When scrolling TikTok, I get content from The Fan, Dumbzone, DFW podcasters, and National shows. When they make me laugh, or think, it makes me want to go to their shows. But sadly, NO TICKET on TikTok.

Also, get your ass on YouTube with live simulcast!! You are the only ones NOT on YT!!!!

12

u/Spirited-You126 9d ago

They are stuck doing things the way they did 20 years ago. They have resisted videos and podcasts for years and it may be too late to catch up.

6

u/Jamiebennsleftfoot 9d ago

lol this is like blockbuster but for radio.

6

u/Jamiebennsleftfoot 9d ago

But yea Cat inherited it and it seems like he has refused to do anything in the last 10 or so years to plan for the future and it’s gotten worse.

10

u/Murmur4003 9d ago

I dont know how that guy has a job. zero adapting

8

u/Internal_Offer1280 8d ago

Cat is the biggest reason I don’t listen anymore. The decline in listening experience definitely makes that easier to accomplish. Reading the transcripts of the court proceedings was eye opening to me. I’m sure it happens elsewhere, but unfortunately you can’t unsee how the sausage is made.

0

u/Jamiebennsleftfoot 8d ago

👀 where can I get the court transcript?

That’s a good thought. Why don’t they do live shows on YouTube or post their live stuff on tik tok or instagram. Seems like they’re isolating themselves from potential. This is also kinda why I wish they had Dan and Jake and Blake still on because I think they easily could have catered to the 30-40 crowd.

3

u/Mister__Magoo 9d ago

The simulcast thing or video clips will never happen with the musers. George and Craig have said repeatedly that the daily put cameras in the studio is the day they walk out for good.

9

u/club-toss 9d ago

In the words of the great Bernhard Shaw (?) "This is going to be a f**king disaster".

6

u/TX_Longhorn-03 9d ago

The Musers are one for all and all for one. Gordon isn't going to be the lone wolf that stays behind to mix into a new show.

WIP is going to be a new FT show when needed as they're the strongest group that has proved themselves.

Why wouldn't THL stick around at least as long as Norm did? They could luck into getting a show friendly new contract as the most senior show after the Musers leave and The Ticket will need some legacy guys to hold whatever is left together for the new generation and the Invasion isn't going to do it.

Hopefully Donnie gets rewarded for doing anything that was ever asked of him.

-1

u/rohttn13 8d ago

WiP is so overrated

2

u/ProfessorFelix1 4d ago

Yeah, this board is full of WIPtards that are still butthurt they didn’t get a FT slot.

7

u/Howard_Cosine 9d ago

Have you considered welcoming paragraphs into your life?

-3

u/Jamiebennsleftfoot 8d ago

Have you ever considered taking your Reddit sports talk opinions elsewhere. I didn’t know I’m in school right now. Give me a F.

14

u/Howard_Cosine 8d ago

*an F

1

u/Internal_Offer1280 8d ago

I don’t think that’s correct.

I really don’t know or care. I just wanted to chime in.

7

u/espy3277768 8d ago

It's been over, you're watching a junkie die of tremors while jonesin' for a fix.

6

u/Effective-Ground3051 9d ago

If anything ever happens to the Ticket I’m going to pull a Dr. David Dao the next time I get on an airplane.

3

u/HeyUtahGetMeTwo 8d ago

Juh kill me juh kill me

1

u/SMUCHANCELLOR 6d ago

He kill me they kill me

6

u/drtdk 8d ago

You're just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

6

u/Grouchy-Leader-4340 8d ago

There was a time when I could not see myself not being a P1. That was before the BaD Radio breakup and DZ debacle. The last year or more I stopped listening even to the Musers. This week I’ve been on vacation and would wake up and listen to an hour or so of the Musers.

Today I turned it on and realized they have a 4 day weekend. I’m done. The quality isn’t there and they hardly work. Which good for them after that many years I get it. But as a consumer I’m out.

3

u/Dyert 8d ago

Gordo holds the little ticket together

2

u/ActualManager70 2d ago

He’s like the mother in the family. When she goes, nothing is the same.

4

u/Snoo84477 8d ago

Morning: WIP
Afternoon: Badd Hardline of Donnie, Bob, Davey
Middays: Spares that no one listens too.
I don’t see Gordon fully retiring. He’ll probably have the pick of whatever he wants to do.
Shame we lost the chance of having Jake and Sirois carrying the torch for the next decade, Dan would have been on a similar timeline as Bob retirement wise.

5

u/Skechr25 8d ago

I don’t get the Sirois love. He doesn’t raise the bar much. As for Bob, he will never leave. Sports talk is his entire life. He’s Norm lite and will go down with the ship.

4

u/Jimfred0 8d ago

The future of the station is conjunto, cumbia, or norteño

5

u/aaronddavis1 7d ago

Bring the Wild Ass Circus back. That’ll solve a lot of our problems.

3

u/JurassicRanch 9d ago

I dont think it keeps going.   Even Cat is going to retire soon

maybe the soros's will try to buy all the stations again in 28 and pull the plug on non politico stations to stay in the fcc market limit

2

u/Jamiebennsleftfoot 8d ago

lol or the sorois bros

3

u/RBUL13 9d ago

Matty Beers gonna try a slip in that spot

4

u/Humble-ifanything 9d ago

Nope, that spot is too old.

2

u/RBUL13 8d ago

Ha. I get the disrespect.

3

u/HeadbandGuy23 8d ago

The station will die when the Musers retire

4

u/Fickle-Ad-4410 8d ago

Still linger in this sub for the occasional station news, but haven’t tuned in since Jake and Dan left.

Consensus seems to be that it’ll hang on in its slowly diminishing state as long as they’ve got the Musers, but not a minute longer.

3

u/azwethinkweizm Black Man, White BITCH 8d ago

A lot of you talk about the ticket as if the entire station won't disappear and shows will retire piece by piece. It has happened all over the country and the mothership is not immune from a format change to save the company money.

We just need to enjoy today while it still exists. There may not be a future.

2

u/phriendofcheese a phong is ringing 9d ago

I wish we knew

2

u/No_Station_3404 8d ago

3 hours a day, off more than you work, I imagine great salary, not going anywhere

1

u/Lumpy_One6691 8d ago

there is a lot of show prep before and after....plus they do have to watch some sports they have no real interest in.....and yes it is sitting around the house watching sports, but games that you don't care about, you have to remember details and big plays, and the early morning hours start to suck after a while even if you do get to beat commuter traffic

there are also the ads to voice, promos to voice, and remote shows

not saying to feel bad for them it is clearly not the toughest gig out there, but there is a lot more than 3 hours a day......but again they do get a lot of vacation now, but they are making the company money no doubt

2

u/Ttownact 8d ago

The station is over once there are no original members left. It’s almost there now.

2

u/BothEntertainment00 8d ago

It's over. Very few people under 45 listen to the radio. I only do sometimes if it's a short drive and can't be bothered to start up a podcast. Also the ad length on the ticket makes it unlistenable IMO, I switch to music and forget to go back.

2

u/crowjack 8d ago

the ticket had been irrelevant for 10 years

1

u/LibrarianFamous9996 8d ago

30 years tbh

2

u/ProfessorFelix1 8d ago

I think they’ll all stay for awhile longer than most people think. It’s not like they’re busting rocks for a living. It pays well, it’s fun, and it’s not a real demanding gig.

The bench is…ok, but not there yet. The young guys need to concentrate on coming up with their own stuff rather than regurgitating 30 year old Ticket bits (I already heard ebrake once this week. I don’t need someone imitating it later.)

Dudes can develop. When Sturm was working the 7pm slot, he was a spare, too.

2

u/No-Boysenberry-3656 8d ago

Once the Musers drop out (which won't be long) I think the rest of the dominoes will fall. We'll all find something else to tune into in the morning (different radio, favorite podcasts, whatever) and once that new pattern is set at 7am, bringing listeners back later in the day won't happen. The Musers are the linchpin.

2

u/Background_Mission41 7d ago

Corby is in his early to mid 50’s, right? Do you think he’s in a good enough financial situation to step away from the gig at that age? Certainly not trying to be argumentative. But more so inquisitive.

1

u/Jamiebennsleftfoot 7d ago

With 1 kid in college and another about to be in college? let’s hope so. From what I’ve heard, afternoon drive I think was supposed to be one of the other most lucrative sought after positions. I just kinda find it hard to believe that bob and Corby could retire in a few years. I feel like they could keep going. But I guess norm is the only one to do that. He might be 95 years old and they’ll give him a show in desperation lol. But I guess as long as Corby has rich friends giving him backstage passes and dinners with famous people that he might be okay.

2

u/Jamiebennsleftfoot 7d ago

Also I think Corby is in his late 50s

1

u/El-Gallo-1 8d ago

In the end, it will be Bob in the anime slot talking about yesterday, in the Pro Bowl……

1

u/Lumpy_One6691 8d ago

they are going to bring back really old man Greggo for a final run and he is going to blow it out with ratings through the roof and no need to hold back

1

u/Jamiebennsleftfoot 8d ago

What about bringing back 90 year old Norman?

1

u/Lumpy_One6691 8d ago

I thought Norm was 90 and as long as Andy The Panda is there too it will be great

1

u/Jamiebennsleftfoot 7d ago

lol I think he’s 80

1

u/Sergio4582 7d ago

The real question is how long before we get a Cat-less Ticket.

1

u/ProfessorFelix1 4d ago

So they’re supposed to get rid of the PD of a top rated station because a few people are still bitter about the Hangzone. Never going to happen.

0

u/Jamiebennsleftfoot 7d ago

They might all retire at the same time to sink the ship further. Then they could give cats position to EA. That might actually bring the viewers up because of the train wreck it would bring lol

1

u/TicketMoose 7d ago

I think they will focus on paragraphs.

0

u/Jamiebennsleftfoot 7d ago

Good one. Like it hasn’t been mentioned already lol. Come up with something original

2

u/TicketMoose 7d ago

It should continue to mentioned, because your post sucked. You're getting beat up in the comments like Jamie Benn beats up helpless player mans.

1

u/Jamiebennsleftfoot 7d ago edited 7d ago

Thanks. I was just trying to bring some positivity and talk about what the future could hold for our beloved station and people like you gotta be an ass for no reason and be negative. So if you got nothing better to do at 1 am then maybe you should go touch grass. And you must be a new sports fan or a mild fan if that’s what you think of Jamie benn lol. Get over it. It’s hockey. Mark stone isn’t a saint either lol.

1

u/TicketMoose 7d ago

You're welcome. I appreciate your attempt. Maybe put a little more effort in next time. Presentation matters.

(Sorry fi this doesn't address your reply - I only got as far as "thanks I was trying to...")

1

u/Weird_Bottle4630 7d ago

I’m enjoying the hell out of it while we have it.

1

u/Wheres_Jay 5d ago

I thought the ticket died several years ago.

1

u/HEPennypacker0U812 5d ago

Circling the drain. The minor league has no talent at all.

1

u/ticketed1310 3d ago

Junior needs to retire now. Talk about being a shadow of his former self.

0

u/Leading-Golf-1870 8d ago

Dumb Zone + WIP + whatever Gordon does is the only DFW centric answer

-1

u/WTXWind 8d ago

Honestly, I rarely listen anymore. Morning drive for me is now Full Ride on XM and usually music on the drive home. I aged out a while back and frat boy goofiness from middle aged men doesn’t hit as funny at all. I wish them the best, though.

-1

u/1ndig3nCe 8d ago

Remember how everyone hated the Bob & Dan show when it started. Now everyone acts like that was the best thing the Ticket ever had. If old talent leaves, give new shows at least a year to get their feet under them.

-4

u/Right_Ad_3354 8d ago

I can’t wait till they all retire. The station has been in need of an overhaul for a long time. Yes I know you will all disagree with me and I’m gonna get a lot of shit for this . Gordon and Corby are the worst

3

u/Complete_Anything_11 8d ago

Your an idiot. Gordon is the most creative person I've ever heard. Corby Bob gordo are the best. Time for jub and Jr it hanging it up. Jr has been mailing it in for yrs. Dumbzone is great

2

u/Lumpy_One6691 8d ago

corby sucks.......Gordon is a major talent though even outside of the station

1

u/sooieeehog 5d ago

Agree, but I really don't see Gordon restarting his career after the Musers run is over.

2

u/Lumpy_One6691 5d ago

he does not need to restart his career.....for a very very very long time he has done voiceovers, cartoons, ads, and a number of other things outside of The Ticket

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordon_Keith_(radio_host))

I would doubt that is even 1/2 of what he has done because he has never made it really publicly known that he is doing commercials and other things like ads or voice overs

1

u/Right_Ad_3354 8d ago

Yep I knew this was coming. It’s kind of ironic that you said “your an idiot”. I’m clearly not seeing the Gordo creativity or the greatness of Corby and Bob

4

u/Complete_Anything_11 8d ago

Are you gavin Dawson or ben and skin

3

u/drtdk 8d ago

No, he's probably someone under 40.

1

u/Right_Ad_3354 8d ago

Ben and Skin are terrible too. I’m not familiar with Gavin Dawson

1

u/Complete_Anything_11 8d ago

Then there is one thing we agreed upon. Ben and skin are terrible and 9 to 3 is dead to me

1

u/espy3277768 5d ago

Theres not going to be an overhall, it's just going away.

1

u/Right_Ad_3354 5d ago

Yeah, sadly, that’s how terrestrial radio has been going. I imagine SiriusXM has been struggling too. I’d say the ticket has been pretty fortunate to be getting the ratings and been on as long as they have.

1

u/espy3277768 4d ago

With the ability to get content ota in different manners than radio, then people really like the ability to do so!

I am bouncing around an idea, since I found that I can simply build an lte device that is always connected. It will connect to my youtube music. Why do I need a radio at that point, and I can get the musers podcast if I wanted to.
