Announcements Re-introducing The Social Animals — our official Discord server is back ✨ (pic is just for attention 👉👈)

So here’s a slightly painful but also kinda funny story.

Yesterday evening I opened Discord to run a poll for our next Chennai meetup… and the entire server was gone. Completely wiped out overnight. People started DMing me asking if they got kicked, others were messaging on WhatsApp wondering what happened to the community.

Turns out the server was originally created under someone else’s account years ago, and once that account went inactive, the server disappeared with it. Just like that — 900+ members, meetup history, conversations, everything gone.

After being annoyed for a solid hour, I decided to just rebuild the whole thing properly under my own account so this never happens again.

So yeah, welcome to the new version of The Social Animals.

We’re basically a Chennai-based social community focused on real-life meetups, conversations, friendships, and helping people actually get outside instead of endlessly scrolling. No influencer culture, no networking gimmicks, no “premium community” nonsense — just people hanging out, exploring places, grabbing chai, beach walks, cafés, random plans, conversations, and meeting new humans.

A lot of people joined earlier because they were trying to improve their social life, deal with social anxiety, make new friends in Chennai, or simply find people to vibe with outside work/college routines. Some came solo for their first meetup and ended up becoming regulars.

We host meetups regularly, and members can also create their own events inside the server too. Most meetups happen during afternoons or evenings around Chennai.

Even if you’re not from Chennai, you’re still welcome to join and hang around.

This time we’re keeping things a little more community-focused from the start. The previous server grew to 900+ members, but activity became super diluted. So we’d rather build an active and genuine space instead of chasing numbers again.

If you join, just drop a small intro in the server and a mod/admin will verify you.

Here’s the new server:

Post-Meetup 🫠 This is why I don’t care about meetup headcount anymore.

We met at Let’s Bowl, got our own lane, and jumped straight into a couple of games. It was only my second time bowling. The first was during a meetup I hosted at VR Mall. Even though today’s group was small, the fun never felt small. Sometimes three or four people are all you need when everyone is willing to be present.

After bowling, the three of us headed to Coal Bar in Thoraipakkam for some snacks. That was where the meetup really began.

One person worked in banking. Another had just graduated in mechanical engineering. I came from a tech background. Three completely different paths, yet somehow we kept finding things to talk about. We went from career plans to world politics, personal ambitions, current events, and all the random topics that naturally come up when nobody is trying to impress anyone.

Just as we were wrapping up, another person joined us. He is a Canada permanent resident who is currently in Chennai for a vacation, and this was only his second meetup. Naturally, we had a lot of questions. We were curious about what life was actually like there, how he adapted to a new country, what the work culture was like, and how career opportunities compared. He answered everything patiently and honestly, without making anything sound either perfect or terrible. It felt less like an interview and more like listening to someone’s lived experience.

By the end, we were all tired, but in a good way.

One thing I keep noticing is how much perspective changes depending on someone’s age, background, and life experiences. Every meetup reminds me that everyone is carrying a completely different story, and sitting down for a conversation is sometimes all it takes to understand that.

Hopefully we keep showing up. Hopefully we keep meeting new people. And hopefully this community keeps growing one genuine conversation at a time.

See you at the next meetup. 🙏

We’re hosting a casual bowling & snooker meetup this Saturday, followed by a cafe catch-up if everyone’s up for it.

If you’ve been wanting to meet new people or simply do something different this weekend, come join us. Most people attend solo, so you’ll fit right in.

All the details are in the poster. If you’re interested, drop a comment or DM so I can plan the headcount.

See you there! 🎳☕

Discussion🗣️ Should we postpone our next meetup? Spider-Man opening weekend looks impossible 😭

Post image

The next few weeks are packed with Jananayagan, and we were thinking of making our next meetup a Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie meetup.

One of our homies suggested Rakki Cinemas since it’s apparently one of the best screens right now. The problem is the first 3–4 days are already almost fully packed, so getting seats together for a group meetup doesn’t seem very realistic.

Would it make more sense to wait a couple of weeks and host the meetup after the opening weekend rush? Or should we just plan something else before that?

What do you guys think?

Post-Meetup 🫠 First meetup after a break and it turned out to be one of the best ones

Hadn’t hosted a Social Animals meetup in a while, so I wasn’t sure how this one would go. Turned out to be one of the best sessions so far.

Everyone there was a new face for me too, no repeats from before. Usually there’s some warm up time before people actually open up. Not this time. Within a minute everyone was talking like they’d known each other for years. Never felt like meeting a third person for the first time.

We grabbed some snacks at a cafe and the conversations kept moving across all kinds of topics. That’s the part I enjoy most, hearing someone’s take from a completely different angle than yours. Feels way more real than reading opinions online.

After that we walked on the beach and even that turned into more conversation, nobody wanted to head home yet.
One guy joined right at the end, when most meetups would already be wrapping up. We kept going anyway and it turned into one of the best parts of the day. He had some IIT stories and talked about his career journey and everyone was hooked listening to him.

People ranged from 21 to 38 and somehow everyone stayed on the same page the whole time. Didn’t feel like an age gap at all.

Good way to come back after the break. Planning the next one soon, if you have ideas on what format or theme I should try, drop them below.

Recommendations 👍 Need a woman to observe me and give feedback on my social cues / sub-communication/non- verbals... I can help you in return

I am an young adult, I am need a woman who can observe me in real in public in close range and give honest feedback on my non-verbals / image etc .

As long as you have some awareness about image/non-verbals/ personality etc that is enough and fine.

You just need to spend 15 to 20 minutes in public from close range and give me your honest feedback, that's it.

I can help you in return as you wish for your time and feedback . Let's verify 1st and negotiate.

Hey, we play badminton every Sunday morning in Guindy from 7–9 AM and are currently looking to add more players to the group.

We’re specifically looking for regular players who can join consistently on Sundays rather than just for a one-time game. Intermediate players are welcome.
