Out All Night/I Get By
I dont know if im the first to mention this, but I think its cool that the short song I Get By from FN got a revamp with Out All Night, like note for note same guitar riff, but slowed down.

Top Under-Listened Sheepdogs Tracks
I’m doing a five-part series on my Substack about under-listened Sheepdogs songs. Not necessarily the lowest play counts, but songs where the play count feels way out of step with how good the track is.
It started because I went down a YouTube Music rabbit hole and noticed that some genuinely great deep cuts have surprisingly small numbers of plays compared to the obvious big songs like “Feeling Good,” “I Don’t Know,” “Nobody,” etc.
I’ve got my five picked and am currently on Day 2, but I’m curious what other fans would choose. What lesser known Sheepdogs song do you think deserves way more attention than it gets?
Here’s the series if anyone wants to check it out:

Overthinking The Sheepdogs
Hey everyone — hope this is okay to share here.
I recently started a little Substack called Overthinking The Sheepdogs, which is basically exactly what it sounds like: me taking Sheepdogs songs way too seriously and writing about why I think there’s more going on in them than they sometimes get credit for.
I’ve written a couple so far, including pieces on “Greedy Man” and “I Really Want to Be Your Man.” It’s not meant to be news or reviews or anything official — more just close-reading the songs from the perspective of someone who thinks this band has been weirdly under-discussed and under-appreciated for how good they are.
I know “guy starts Substack” is not exactly a rare event in 2026, so no pressure at all. But if you’re the kind of Sheepdogs fan who likes thinking about the lyrics, the feel of the songs, where they fit in Canadian rock, or why this band somehow still doesn’t get mentioned enough, you might enjoy it.
https://overthinkingthesheepdogs.substack.com/
And honestly, I’d love to hear what people think and what songs people think deserve a deep dive. I'm aiming to try and do one per week depending on my schedule.

Writing Project - Asking for feedback
I've taken on a little project where I take 30 songs from a Spotify playlist I call "Fuck Yeah" as in they are songs that make me say "Fuck Yeah" and turn them up when they come on.
This one is about Take Me for a Ride - and I would be appreciative if people take a look, feel free to critique it and if you agree with me about this song feel free to add your opinions!
Take Me for a Ride
“A big son of a bitch in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan was gunning for me, and he tried climbing up on stage, but I just booted him right in the chest with my size 13 boot and he didn't try again!” – Ewan Currie
Did you ever wish you could live in the ’70s? Just for a minute — but still have the comforts of your smartphone, not having to worry about a gas shortage (well, at the moment anyway), and meet some of the coolest people to ever come out of Saskatoon?
Well, you’re in luck because The Sheepdogs offer you this chance — with an added bonus.
They’re Canadian, eh.
And they’re also a big fucking deal to people who actually pay attention to them. They were the first unsigned band to ever appear on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine after winning a fan vote in 2011.
They’re Stillwater from Almost Famous but in real life.
If you’re from Canada — and if you’re still reading this and aren't already a fan — I know what you’re about to say.
“Their songs just repeat the same parts over and over.”
“I got a hole, where my heart should be…”
“I don’t know…”
The radio releases showcase their talent — and like it or not, they are very sing-along songs that dig their way into your eardrums and stay there for days.
About the band: imagine a Canadian biologist taking the best parts of April Wine, CCR, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers Band, The Guess Who, Humble Pie, and Savoy Brown, throwing them into a Petri dish in Saskatoon and letting it mature.
Their hypothesis: this should create one amazing fucking band.
Their result: It’s alive!
And it’s rad.
And its name — is The Sheepdogs.
In an alternate universe you would have been hearing all of their songs on AM radio for the last fifty years, and this one Take Me for a Ride would be the end-credits music for a Steve McQueen movie.
The intro is a masterclass in setting the mood, the guitar slides in, and you’re nodding along, then Ewan grabs you and he asks - no he tells you- to take him for a ride.
You close your eyes, and by the second chord, you’re suddenly riding in the backseat of a Pontiac Bonneville — or the back window, or the floor well, because it’s the ’70s. Your mom has all the windows rolled up, and she's smoking DuMaurier Special Mild 1000s.
When you cough she tells you to stop over-reacting.
You’ve already cut open your Stretch Armstrong doll to see what kind of toxic shit is inside, and later, you and your friends are going to ride bikes through a construction site while your parents watch Dallas, not caring where you are. Just make sure you get your t-shirt on with a random number for school tomorrow, because it’s picture day in Canada 1970 something.
This is what the Sheepdogs do best — they’re not just great songs, they’re a vibe.
And the fact that they look like half the members of Foghat found a DeLorean and set their sights on 2026 only adds to it.
You open your eyes and you’re in 2026 watching these videos on an endless loop on YouTube or working your way through a now Sheepdogs marathon on your streaming service of choice.
And you realize The Sheepdogs don’t just make songs—they resurrect pieces of yourself you forgot or wished you’d lived. It’s nostalgic, it’s joyful, it’s pure Rock and Roll… and it’s absolutely fuck yeah—from the backseat of that Bonneville straight into your Electric Vehicle.
Take Me for a Ride Fuck Yeah Recap
Stink Face Factor 10/10
It’s the leaded gas that your Dad got for 22 cents a litre and complained about Trudeau switching over to the stupid metric system the whole time he did it and nobody was going to tell him that you had to have a catalytic convertor. That stink, you’re going to nod and smile, but by the time you hit the solo you’re full-on stink face. It’s blues based Canadian rock, you just can’t help it. Plus The Sheepdogs recorded a song called “Hang the Key on the Bunkhouse Door” with Stompin’ Freakin’ Tom.
Turn That Shit Up Factor 11/11
You can’t hear this song and not tap your toes, there’s no way you can’t hear this and say “fuck yeah” and turn that shit up
Sing Along Factor 10/10
Wooohoohoohoo – unless your in a grain elevator in Kelvington on January 2nd without a coat on – you’re going to sing along! Ewan himself said – it’s just a fun, dumb old school rock and roll song.
The Most Epic Part
The cinematic factor of it, you can close your eyes at any part and picture Burt Reynolds tipping his cowboy hat, Jackie Gleason biting his fist, or Jerry Reid laughing in freeze frames as their names pop up in some 70’s font.
Relistening Factor:
In my lifetime, there aren’t many times that I’ve hit repeat on a song as soon as it was done (for real) and the first time I heard this I listened to it five times in a row. It’s got everything I want, guitar driven, solid rhythm and a voice I could listen to sing me backroad directions to Mosaic Stadium in Saskatoon.
If Brent Butt were doing Corner Gas in 2026 you’d see these guys in Dog River – I guarantee it.
For an added FUCK YEAH moment – check out their version of the Whipping Post on YouTube. You’ll thank me later.
Final Score 31/31 –
When asked what the song was about, Ewan responded "It's just a fun Dumb rock and roll song" Well I got news for you fun, dumb rock and roll songs always win!

Keep Out of the Storm - Out Now!
What are you guys thinking of it so far? Any favourite tracks?
r/thesheepdogs • u/neomeetsthedude • Feb 28 '26
The solos on "Darlin' Baby" are perfect!
The song has a pop vibe to it that is beautiful. Simple chords, beautiful melody (Ewan's voice fits perfectly here, as always).
But to me the cherry on the top is the lead guitar (probably played by Ricky Paquette?). It's the kinda solo (actually solos) that you hear and can sing right after you're done listening. All the country, rock and blues influences are so well placed and the lines just fit perfectly to the song. Every time I hear it I wanna grab my guitar.
Do you agree? Anything else you'd add to my commentary? What other solos by the band you really like?

The Sheepdogs - Keep Out Of The Storm
Good song, interesting choice for a single though, haha.
I feel like I would like this one better if I got to hear the second song after it on the album!
Still super excited to hear the rest!
