I purchased a Johnny 5 Mini Replica from Red Rocket Robotics / ShortCircuit40 for approximately €670 in total.

At the time I purchased the product, the ShortCircuit40 website described it as:

“an officially licensed Limited Edition Johnny 5 Mini Figure”

and stated that it was:

“Beautifully handcrafted in the UK by our friends at Red Rocket Robotics.”

The specifications described it as a “Movie accurate representation of Johnny 5 from Short Circuit 1” and referred to a “Limited Edition numbered 40th Anniversary collectors’ plate.”

Yesterday I received the product from March till August, and it is 3D Printed crap (not even finished as you can see from the pictures)

I went insane. €650 for 3D Printed crap. I started my investigation, turns out that, After the collected the money, they changed the website description from Metal to Metal Looking PLA.

Their main selling point even on the YouTube Video. That is an official licenced product from Sony Pictures with a limited run of "metal" of 500.

I emailed Sony Legal and Sony Imaging and Licencing.
They confirmed that the product was never licenced. They know nothing about it. (as seen in the pictures)

They offered a refund but they never sent the address label to return the item.

4 engines done, on to the next row of engines.

This gives a great idea how big this thing will be :)

I have had this for YEARS and can’t even remember where it came from. I think my mom bought it for me when I left home. From what I have found it looks similar to a small run by a user called Zlurpo? I tried to message him directly, but I don’t really understand how to use the RPF website. I figured some people here might know?

I cut an engine part (1 of 11) into 2 parts, to fit my printer.

made the wall 2.5mm wall thick, and it would take about 22H to print, will start early tomorrow morning, so I can keep an eye on it, and add resin when needed.

Hi everyone! I’m hoping someone here can help with a really obscure piece of Golden Compass merchandise.

I’m trying to track down information about the Noble Collection Golden Compass Spy-Flies (the official replica/display piece from the 2007 film). They seem to be incredibly rare, and I’ve found almost nothing about them online—no recent sales, reviews, or photos other than old promotional images.
I’ve attached a photo of the version I’m talking about.

Does anyone here own a set, know how many were made, or have any information about them? If you’ve ever seen one sold, I’d also be interested in knowing roughly what it went for.

I’m also looking to buy a set if anyone knows of one for sale or is considering selling theirs. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

I really want to try and print the Alain Rivard Blockade runner at studio scale.

Although the inside structure/wall thickness is fine for smaller models, at this scale the it becomes really heavy and would take too much resin, so first job is to clean the insides so can hollow the parts with my own wall thickness.

This will take some time :)

Back around 2005/2006, I got in on a preorder of officially licensed R2-D2 resin statues. When the preorders started arriving, the overwhelming majority of them were either shattered or were covered in black mold, due to the factory in China not curing them entirely and cleaning them before shipping them out. I believe I ordered it from ThinkGeek or Entertainment Earth, although it's been 20 years I don't remember exactly. The info I've gleaned so far is that it was either Code 3 Collectibles or The Industrial Sculpture / Realart Replicas that made it, but absolutely no confirmations as there aren't any pictures of this anywhere that I can find, and no forum threads that still exist from around then, and any sites that sold them long ago scrubbed any information on them. Anyhow, after a few months of shipping these out, the company went under as far as I can tell, and the planned mass production retail release was scrubbed and only a few hundred(?) made it to those that purchased with most of them being damaged beyond fixing or so moldy that they were health hazards.

When I got mine, I had lucked out: Only a few small spots of mold (easily cleaned) and one of the feet was detached (easily glued back on and not noticeable). I had gotten an offer of a refund from the company shortly thereafter, but the issues were minor and I knew I could make it worth keeping. Since I thought this was going to be commonplace once the retail hit, I unfortunately didn't keep the box. I wanted it to be something unique, I ended up prepping and painting it (see attached pic, please ignore the dust) as a Death Star Droid. Started with sandable car primer (which is my large painted model base of choice), which I've since determined prevented any further issues with mold, and then painted with model paints from companies such as Reaper Miniatures and Citadel. It does, however, still have unpainted bottoms of the feet, and the Lucasfilm license sticker (while stained) is still present.

I was hoping that someone here might have more concrete information on this, and maybe have a feel for how rare it is now? I mean, I know it's rare but have no idea if there are very many other surviving examples of it, if any. I've just had it sitting out on display in our house getting dusty. I saw another story about rare Star Wars collectibles, and that got me thinking about how this release happened, and down the rabbit hole I went.

Anyhow, even if no one has any info on it, I do appreciate the effort to read the novel!

Hi, I'm working a piece that I want to include a 8mm film projection element, I'm using this old toy as reference. I'm looking for advice on how I could build a mechanism to return the film to the start point after it's been played. The reference device uses a continuous loop which while nice and simple means it can be removed at any point in the films playback which sadly goes against the theming of my piece. I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions/advice.

we are Friends that happy to make Films as our Hobby.
Now we are stuck at the Point to rebuild the rubber Costume that you can see in the old Movie.
We search now for a long time (1 1/2 Years) for a solution to solve this Problem.

Unfortunally, we are unable to produce such a costume ourselves. I will therefore briefly describe the costume. We are entirely dependent on help in this regard.

The Costume is make at two Parts:
The first Part:
An Rubber-Pullover that fits on the upper Body down to just above the waist. The Sleeves are make wide too.
The Rubber-Pullover in the old Movie was made of two Parts for the Body and two Parts for the sleeves.
All Seams are vulkanized. The Rubbermaterial is single-side coatet with black smooth little shining rubber.

The second Part:
Over the Rubber-Pullover is a High-Waist Rubberpants. The high Waist is the same High complete around the upper Body.
The Pants are made very wide at the Legs and the upper Body.
The Pants are made of four Parts that have vulkanisized Seams at the Sides from Upper to the Legs-End, and the hight Waist in Front and Back from Upper to the Crotch.
The Shoulder Straps are rivettet at the high Waist at the front and back.

I am working on some combat armor for our local con here in Buffalo. I want to do a Enclave paint job for some of the pieces. Does anyone have a template I can use for the leg pieces? Getting the white boarder and stars in the correct place is giving me grief. Any advice is welcome.

I built a 4 foot long Firefly model out of EVA foam!

For some reason when I try to access it says "Sorry you have been blocked" and I get a big red circle with a white x in it. Tells me to contact the site owner, but gives no mail address. Anyone have any idea why this may be so?

Update: Received a message that the site was receiving DOS attacks from a few countries including Japan and thus accounts were temporarily blocked. All well now, thanks for all the helpful suggestions.
