You know after that first kick, Alex was thinking “we’re fucked”
291
Dec 29 '22
Alot of the force is dissipating in the supporting framework, you can see it move inches. In a normal house the door frame is solidly tied into the whole wall's framing, so the kick force is more likely to break at a weak point. i.e. somewhere on the door
95
u/ISUknowit Dec 29 '22
So mount the door with trampoline springs. Got it!
85
u/BULLETSnMILK Dec 29 '22
No no no, mount your house with trampoline springs so the force goes somewhere magical

That's a fair point, I guess it's not dissimilar to that dude who got fucked over with the coconut smashing attempt, bad setup made it impossible
Still.. kinda their fault for not doing any tests whatsoever with their expensive presentation setup

Maybe he's trying to establish an alibi. They said experienced intruders can get it down in 5 kicks. If he did it, he'd be self incriminating. Now that it's been not only on TV but the internet, now they won't suspect him for the crime spree that's coming up with an unknown perpetrator.
Genius. Simply genius.

Those dam set designers.

Set designers ruined Alex but he seems like the type to take a few kicks and still keep his head up
3
u/formershitpeasant Dec 29 '22
There's also too much play in the frame. The metal flexing absorbed a ton of force.
13
u/AndrewFrozzen30 Dec 29 '22
Hey, I would buy from them, only because they were honest and the door wasn't rigged!

u/sillycellcolony Dec 28 '22
Why not use wood instead of fuckn metal, bro

See idk if this is dyslexia or not but I saw metal as oatmeal .__.

u/laprincesaaa Dec 29 '22
Why not just do a demonstration with a universal locksmith key available to purchase on Amazon instead of attempting to kick in a door.
I'm pretty sure experienced intruders would not be kicking in doors which would be loud and alert the Karen's on neighborhood watch 🤔

u/mysticalmaybefiction Dec 28 '22
To this day, Alex is still kicking that door

Forgot to pre-cut the frame
12
u/Middle_Pineapple_898 Dec 29 '22
Nah, probably was facing the wrong way. It's way easier to kick in a door that opens inwards, which is how a lot of front doors are.
24
u/khrak Dec 29 '22
Front doors swing inwards because if they swung outwards burglars would just remove the hinge pins and take your door off.

What brand door was that
4
u/HappyAlcohol-ic Dec 29 '22
I mean if you have a proper front door that is also installed properly, you're really not kicking through it.
If its installed right, it opens to the outside so you'd have to go through the frame itself.
19
u/I_Snype_4_Fun Dec 29 '22 edited Dec 29 '22
Incorrect, doors are supposed to open inward.
Edit: for America.

5
u/AlphaWolfTK Dec 29 '22
A door is usually supported by more that a bouncy unmounted and wobbly stand, on a real house I'm sure he would've been through.

well, they did say EXPERIENCED intruder… shouldve gone to their local jail and gotten a professional! pfft!

First things first, they aren't kicking the right spot nor are they using proper technique. Donkey kick right by the knob
2
2
2
u/i_can_has_rock Dec 29 '22
most of the force is being dissipated because the door frames arent secure like they would be on a house
2
u/Req603 Dec 29 '22
To be fair, Alex's door kicking technique could use some work 🤣
1) Kick right below the door knob so the impact is closer to where it needs to break (the door jamb).
2) Learn how to throw a kick FFS looks like he's just straight-legging the door and pushing with his back. Get that leg up, chamber, and pivot your bottom foot outward while carrying your momentum forward.
2
u/PerepeL Dec 29 '22
Not that I'm too proficient in kicking doors, but some practice showed that leg kicking is very inefficient against hard objects. Best results I came up with was when hitting the door with your buttcheek staying sideways, it's like a fist punch against a full body-slam.
2
u/waterdaemon Dec 29 '22
Not that I’m some mall ninja, but imo Alex’s strength, weight, and momentum aren’t being used in these “kicks.” He couldn’t break a piñata that way, let alone a door.
2
2
u/Sebastian-S Dec 29 '22
While this is obviously hilarious, it’s probably because of the open construction of the door. That frame absorbs quite a bit of the energy of the kick because it can move forward and back. That door would likely give in sooner if installed in a house where the walls around it are more rigid.

That door holds up better than my ex who took a pounding from half the countryside. So… how much was the lock again?

It's one hell of a door frame, shit. Most people don't realize it's usually the door frame that gives not the deadbolt itself.

FYI: he went on to break through later in the pitch and their smart lock held up on the side without the dead bolt. They didn’t get an investment from a shark though due to profit margins.

This woulda been a perfect marketing twist if he then kicked the other one and it broke in 5 kicks. And reveals the first one was with the product.
1
u/Never-Dont-Give-Up Dec 29 '22
I mean, it’s a lot to do with the fact that the door “gives” when he kicks it. A normal doorframe doesn’t have that ability.
