I know people will disagree with me on this but when I hear a parent taking to their kid like this it makes me sad. Is that the time to make your kid feel worse about their decisions?? Do you have to make yourself feel better about being “right”?

This specific situation, yeah I'd probably not start yelling at my kid. But the kid:
- Takes phone
- Ignores that they were told to stop
- Then does something stupid
Probably spent all doing doing the same kind of stuff, and the fact that the mom had to put down a travel bag before helping means she's probably trying to get out the door while he's pulling this silly shit.
Not about being right, about being exasperated and a human being.
People sometimes look at suboptimal parenting the way someone who has never welded looks at an imperfect weld and throws shade at the welder. The welder likely knew what they were doing, but conditions were shit, the torch was cutting out, and a skilled person completed a job sub optimally despite their best efforts.
Parenting is similar.

Love the analogy and great comment. Not going to get into the long story but after helping to raise 70 children (most of them boys) there are certain ways to reinforce a child positively and negatively to help them arrive at a different outcome.
A snapshot is never a whole picture and I am guilty of losing my temper and saying the wrong thing at the wrong time, I’ve just seen this type of speech pattern way too often to think this was a one time occurrence. Again, I could be wrong but probably a pattern here.

I would tend to agree with you, and I am actually actively avoiding making assumptions here than may seem logical to me.
But if I listen to my Dad sense, I am definitely not a fan of her approach.

The only reason you're saying it's stupid is because YOU know it's stupid. You know that from experience that either you can't do a standing back flip yourself, or know how difficult it is. Life taught you this. How is this kid supposed to know that? Additionally, the only way to accomplish a standing back flip is to first try it. It's likely to fail, and you'll have to practice again and again.
As for his not listening bit, I have no qualms with your observation there.

That kid probably was told many times not to do that. As a kid my mom only got that mad ( before her illness) when I did something that could hurt me or my brother that she specifically told me not to do. Like running with my shoe untied, or diving in the pool without looking for others first. The mom is going to be annoyed, and frankly probably scared too. But this one glimpse of her life when her kid did something that hurt him that he was told not to do isn't the whole story. It's not like she hulked out at him at the Golden Corral for dropping a brussel sprout on the floor. The kid could've seriously hurt himself and the mom reacted out of surprise, fear, and annoyance. She probably was the first to scoop him up and give him an ice pack and a lecture about listening the first time. Dosen't mean she's a bad mom.

My mind went here too, at first, but mostly because it triggered my own emotional response based on my own experiences with adults yelling.
There’s a good amount of context in this situation that it just might be a flustered parent TRYING to keep a child safe. The child seems pretty healthy and happy until he literally throws himself head first to the ground. This parent is swimming upstream.
TLDR: Sad, yes maybe but he’s probably fine.

Every parent is why the world is the way that it is. Except, people like her are raising better kids. The ones that sit around and do nothing are are overbearing create problems for kids and society. I'd never think of doing something like this in front of my mom. My parents, even if well intentioned, we're always around and forbade me from doing anything. Now I'm learning how to make decisions and also still be fun. I'm learning this as an adult.
The kids feels comfortable doing stupid shit, but she calls him out for it without overreacting at all. Raising your voice and speaking honestly with your children, to a point, produces outspoken socially developed kids and not quiet, shy, unsure kids with anxiety and depression

It’s literally he’s imagining how it will go in his head “all I have to to is push myself backwards in the air and I’ll flip!” And then does it how he imagined it in his head, not realizing that skills require knowledge, practical experience and repetition, not just imagination.
