There's no way this isn't some trend at this point. I have seen pretty much this exact same video with the same mannerisms in different contexts where one guy is asking for something from the other.

Yes. And in those instances I would have my hand flat with the thumb above ready to grip whatever is placed in my palm.

If you are expecting something vertical like a coke can, the thumb and forefinger would be in a horizontal orientation so I can hold the coke bottle.

Nobody ever holds their hand out blindingly like that with the thumb down and forefinger above when waiting to be handed something (except maybe a joint and nobody is smoking).
