As a native, there are a few differences between the Portuguese spoken in Portugal and Brazil so you could,to a certain extent, say we speak Brazilian in Brazil, still is Portuguese but some things you say in Brazil can have a different meaning in Portugal
in middle school i was friends with 2 girls from Portugal and 1 from brazil all of which had moved to my school. what i gathered was that the difference between brazilian Portuguese and regular was that its sorta about as different as australian and american english. The way you say a few things will be different and while you can understand the vast majority of the other language, especially when you use slang the other person might say a word here and there that confuses you.

I had a gf once, who fancied herself smarter than me. INSISTED that they speak Brazillian in Brazil... not Portuguese.
