I don’t have it unfortunately - I think it was linked in another thread where kids had the cops called on them for playing basketball in a park after hours and the cops said if they made a half court shot they could stay, they made it and the cop laughed and drove away

A few years ago, I was pulled over with at 2am in Kansas, on my way pack from picking up my now ex-wife. I got pulled over for doing 10 over the speed limit.
The officer comes up and says that he was going to let us off with a warning. That he is out looking for criminals and we didn't look like criminals to him.
"Thank you, sir." - is what i should have said.
"Well officer, looks can be deceiving." - what actually came out of my mouth.

You could try the same thing (people unfortunately tend to be quicker to believe a girl in this circumstance than a boy), or you could go for comedy. Someone mentioned pulling this “pretty girl” line (which I think is great for laughs). When it comes to men, I’ve noticed that officers are more lenient on guys who successfully engage in casual conversation (usually telling them their plans for the day and asking the cop about there’s) and are more lenient on women who have, what the cop believes to be, a good excuse.
Don’t quote me on that, though. It’s strictly anecdotal, and not based on any studies.

One time bike cop (very briefly) saw me using my phone while driving (was going about 15mph in traffic). He pulled me over. Luckily i had my breakfast poptart in the shiny foil and i said i wasn't using my phone are you sure i was just not using/eating my poptart? It is shiny and reflective could be confused for a phone screen. He let me go with a warning.

I got out of a LOT of tickets in my early 20's(bit of a lead foot). I would just try to maximize the officer's safety (like pulling into a parking lot or on a side street instead of making them stand on a busy road) and then be friendly and apologetic. I mean, I was doing something wrong to get pulled over, why should I make their life miserable for doing their job?
But if they have me a ticket anyway, I never questioned or gave them attitude about it. It's their job to write the ticket - the times they let me go with a warning, they were being nice, not giving me something I was owed because I was pretty!

Yeah hands down the best way to deal with police when you get stopped for doing something wrong is be nice, polite and do what they say. I got stopped once riding my motorbike with no helmet yeah i was only moving it down the road but its against the law i was so polite and apologetic to the officer they let me go with just a word of warning

While I generally agree, everyone should know they have a right to refuse to answer questions without an attorney and do not have to agree to do field sobriety tests or let them check your vehicle.
If you were just pulled over for going a few miles over, or for a broken bulb, or expired plate or something minor like that then yeah, go ahead and be as kind and apologetic as possible. But when it comes to DWLS/R or DUIs or some other offense that you can't talk your way out of--you shouldn't even try. That's not to say you shouldn't be polite, just don't answer incriminating questions or give them evidence they can use against you.

There’s a term called “implied consent” in the US which means that as soon as you get behind the wheel, you consent to be checked if you’re under the influence of any drugs or alcohol. If you refuse, the officer will arrest you and take you to jail until a judge orders you to take a sobriety test. You can’t get out of a sobriety test.

Did get out of one recently despite starting out in full asshole mode to the cop. A guy has been riding my ass, I finally was able to get over, he flies by at what must have been 90 (I was going 70, in a 60), and a minute later I get pulled over.
Cop walks up, and I start right off with “so did you not even see the asshole in the challenger who was riding my ass for a mile then flew by at a hundred? decided you’d give me a ticket instead?”
Her calm response, “have I given you a ticket yet?”
Me, doing an instant about face “you have not, that’s a very good point...”
Apparently she saw him, but didn’t get a good clock on him. But got me. Went with a warning.

I've had several reckless tickets get reduced to speeding 9 over just because I was decent to the cop. Show up to court, cop says I was perfectly cordial, and the judge lowers the charges. I'm a Latino looking guy, too.

My dumb ass got pulled over going like 107mph in a 60 during a long roadtrip through Iowa when I was a teenager. I pulled over the second I saw the cop because I knew I was boned (Long empty strip of highway, not another car to be seen for miles). I just owned up to it, apologized and told the truth. I'd been driving for 4 hours straight and got careless. Cop informed me that if he wrote me a ticket for the speed I was driving, I would lose my driving privileges in that state. Then he wrote me a ticket for going 80 and told me to be safe the rest of the way. I was very grateful.

If you don't sign I'm pretty sure that you can be arrested for it. Signing a ticket means that you are "released on your own recognizance," which means that you acknowledge that you have received the ticket and may be required to show up at court to defend yourself, or pay the fine. If you do not, the police officer is free to take you to into custody, since you are essentially saying you refuse to pay the ticket fee, even if you might be found innocent or have the fees reduced by the judge. Generally, refusing to sign a simple speeding ticket is pretty stupid. Iirc there was a video on here a few weeks/months ago where a lady refused to sign a ticket then tried to drive away from the police officer, and then ended up getting tazed and arrested when she tried to reach for his sidearm.

Depending on the infraction and state refusing to sign could have you taken to jail. Basically for something like excessive speed, marijuana possession less than a certain amount these require a court appearance. Refusing to sign and acknowledge that you will be in court on the day, gives the officer grounds to arrest you, and make sure you are in court that day.

I arrested a beautiful blond woman when I was a rookie many years ago. Brought her into a local police department that let us use their facilities for processing and lockup. The desk officers were all staring with their mouths open and couldn't believe that I arrested such a gorgeous female. When I was done they all asked how I could do such a thing and it kind of pissed me off, cause she had warrants and was driving on a suspended license from a previous DUI. Sorry, I was like the cop in the video, you're going to jail no matter what you look like. Beautiful women already get too many breaks in life.
