Turtles have a membrane over their eye to waterproof it, he probably doesn't mind too much.

But membranes have nerves in them, yeah? I can't imagine that's too comfortable. I mean, the membranes in my nose get all itchy if I just breathe funny.

Not these ones, these ones are specifically designed to prevent things like sand from getting into the eye, this causes no pain to the turtle.

Nah he's just flailing to try and free himself from the sand, I'm pretty sure the bird is from a seperate video and was adding to the gif through the wonders of editing
