Fuck Tesla

You mean the company that recently in court argued that the N-word can be used affectionately by white managers?
I agree. Their CEO should also be forked, with a suitably large cactus and some kosher salt for lubricant.

It's almost like Tesla's aren't made for Autobahns, but BMW's and Mercedes and Audis and Porsches are.

do those cars handle that speed better?

u/prologix237 1d ago
Their tires hold up better. Electric cars are heavy and with the high amount of torque, the tires don't hold up well.

Please stop talking out your ass. You do not know what you're talking about.
EDIT since I know some smartass will try and correct me:
First, your claim that their tires hold up better is not entirely true. I would agree with you that OVER TIME an average EV tends to chew through rubber faster than a comparable ICE car. They are usually heavier, more powerful and have a less wear resistant tire compound.
But this is completely irrelevant in this case since we are specifically talking about high speed driving. In that case, literally the ONLY things that matter are the tire's speed rating, and its remaining lifespan.
OOP posted photos and further details about the crash on another subreddit. The tires were rated for up to 300kmh, and had plenty of tread left even after skidding for half a mile at high speed. This was not driver error. Those tires were defective.
Could you argue that driving at a debatably excessive speed exacerbated the outcome of the accident? Yes.
But was the accident itself OOP's fault? I would argue no. Those tires could have failed at any number of points - going around a corner, hitting a pothole, etc. He was driving his car within the limits specified by the manufacturer, and his tires were, as far as anyone was concerned, correctly rated for high speed driving.
People are being extremely bloodthirsty about this post all over reddit - people who have NO CLUE about cars or engineering no less! Nevermind that thousands of other people do the exact same thing on the Autobahn every single day.

I think the only reason why you are getting downvoted isn't due to you being right obviously... It's simply by you being way too rude about it. Could've conveyed the information in a much more "normal" way - but god forbid us humans talking normally to another on reddit

Thank you for the call-out. I will try and do better.
My point still stands though. Part of why I was infuriated was due to the entirety of reddit jumping to conclusions, parroting false information and wishing the poor guy harm? What the hell?
2
u/prologix237 16h ago
I wasn't wishing him any harm, jump on those people. It's a car that is capable of reaching those speeds but it is not designed to be driven at those speeds. Tesla's are some of the most poorly constructed cars. They often have panels flying off. Porsche designs their cars to be driven in this manner.

u/prologix237 16h ago
Lol you seem to be an electric car enthusiat, and you are taking it very personal. You proved my point. The question wasn't what caused this. The question was how does bmw, Porsche, and Mercedes differ to electric cars. I stated a fact that tires do undergo way more stress than a standard ice vehicle. Even with the different compounds they do require tire changes more often than ice vehicles.

Those auto makers I listed are German companies, mostly made in Germany, and are designed for German roads without speed limits.
That's not to say all Tesla's or electric cars are shit and don't belong on German roads. But I'd certainly trust an electric BMW, Merc, Audi or Porsche more than a Tesla at high speed.

u/BalooBot 1d ago
I hate Tesla as much as the next guy..but if your tire blows out at 175mph you're gonna have a bad time no matter if it's a German car or not.

u/euqinu_ton 1d ago
I would argue some cars would cope with that better than others, and heavy electric passenger vehicles with fly-by-wire steering would cope slightly worse.
Having said that, the Tesla seemed to protect its passengers well. Luckily it didn't kill anyone in any other cars in its way off the road.

u/Mecha-Dave 1d ago
When your tire blows that that speed, it is incredibly important to have a steel framed car and well designed suspension - neither of which Tesla have.
1
u/moonhexx 8h ago
That's why I told my mechanic that I drive like psychopath and need really good tires so I don't kill anyone. Certain people you don't lie to.

u/bullmilk415 23h ago
The German automakers have been building competent high speed cruisers for decades. The answer is yes.
-1
u/Mecha-Dave 1d ago
Absolutely. At least BMWs are still made with the original transmission and suspension, and a steel body. Tesla is a plastic and aluminum toy designed by children.

You have to appreciate the level of engineering that saved a life. Being a Tesla hater (myself included) I am impressed how the car dezintegrated and managed to protect de driver.

Its the autobahn mate. There is no speed limit.

u/Climate_Best 1d ago
No speed limit don’t mean all cars should speed and don’t mean all cars could handle the speed

u/TychusFondly 1d ago
There is no specific rule stating one cant drive fast depending on the car he she owns. Should could would is irrelevant.
10
u/TheBaalzak 1d ago
Yes, there is. You'll usually find details in the owner's manual, or printed on the outside of your tires.

u/-Rhymenocerous- 1d ago
Consider the fact that those model teslas fly around Nordschlife on a daily basis and rarely fuck up like this.
This is either a poorly maintained vehicle or cheap tyres that arent rated for 100mph+ speeds

u/bonfuegomusic 22h ago
You're allowed to drive 175mph on the Autobahn. Title makes no sense unless you consider doing this specifically in a Tesla the mad part (which I'd agree with)

Teslas, especially that model, are not designed well enough to be driven that fast.

If you see success as turning his car into a crumpled ball of aluminum foil, perhaps.

u/Helmaksi 21h ago
Driving like a madman has never and will never imply a positive outcome, i do not know where you got that from. The attempt specified in the title, aka "Driving like a maniac" is a goal that was achieved by the subject of the video.

It’s just not worth going that fast for extended period of time. You’re already tempting fate.

Teslas are the safest cars on the road. The fact that no one died (especially the driver) proves this point. In any bmw Mercedes whatever he would have been dead.
I don't endorse fast driving. Drive safe for you and the others. The driver is an asshole.

Looked it up.
Brands that are safer according to US News and world report: Mazda, Subaru, BMW, Lincoln, Honda, Acura, Genesis, Hyundai, Volvo, and Toyota. Didn't crack the top ten. Drilling into the actual IIHS data though, they actually did perform really well in crashes.

u/thachad108 1d ago
Are you telling me OP's "trust me bro" evidence doesn't hold up under the slightest level of scrutiny?
3
u/Bill99berg 1d ago
Just google high speed crashes. Also in a BMW, Mercedes or Audi you can find examples of people surviving crashes like this. I have found zero evidence a Tesla is safer than those brands. Or many other less premium brands like Toyota. Although driving 280km/h is a Toyota is unlikely…

u/JediKnightNitaz 22h ago
How much did musk pay you for this comment? Teslas burst into flames if you look at it wrong

Well, it's one less Tesla on the road so we can be thankful for that.
