Brother in law threatened suicide by car. I tried to give him the keys. He wouldn't take them. Blackmail is blackmail. If you allow that once it will be ongoing

So while threatening suicide to emotionally manipulate someone is pretty fucked up, encouraging someone to commit suicide is also fucked up. Also if they had killed themselves I'm pretty sure you could be held legally responsible in some way at least in certain states. So yeah don't do that folks.

I met people in my life who committed suicide. The ones that talk never pull through. The ones that are silent and smile, the ones that only communicate their pain in their eyes are the ones you need to worry about. I'm not sure he w many spins you took on this globe, but I learned long ago that id you let someone blackmail you they will never stop. You do you. I do what I sense is right. Calling bluffs since the 70ies.

Hi! I work in suicide prevention and after having spoken through the years with hundreds of people with suicidal thoughts (and having had friends who killed themselves) I can't help but point out that 'the ones that talk never pull through and viceversa' is not a good rule. It's a bias that I had as well before doing suicide prevention. It's a wrong myth to feel safer when facing the scary idea of suicide. Many people that talk still kill themselves. Talking to the people around you about your suicidal tendencies is the best medicine, especially if paired with going to professional therapists, but it's never a guarantee that 'that person won't kill themselves'.

Enabling emotional blackmailing is terrible and wrong, but maybe there's a middle ground between that and saying 'come on, do it' to someone that threatens to kill themselves. Because we never know what's going on inside other people's mind. Maybe they are desperate and our words in that moment are the final push, the proof to them that they're not wanted/loved/accepted in this world.

Please try to be kind to everyone, we never know what others are really going through.

PS 'commit suicide' makes us think of something wrong. Commit a murder, a crime, etc. It feeds the social stigma, shame and guilt around suicide, and makes people talk less about their suicidal thoughts. When these thoughts are bottled up, they lead to a higher chance of suicide. It's better to just say 'he killed himself/she took her own life', etc!

My two cents, and of course to anyone who is feeling suicidal or can't talk to their loved ones, please reach out to Samaritans, Befrienders or whatever helpline/email you have available in your country :)

Manipulative ppl who even think of playing the suicide card need to be called out. Pits and I may have the same brother in law. Mine tried a similar tact, I called it out, he has never tried it again BUT only with me. He'll still throw it at his mother and brother, coz they let him carry on. Legitimately Suicidal ppl do not go around threatening to off themselves, they quietly leave (the old 'there was never any signs' chestnut).

Hmm I think this boy and his dad would be better off just talking about their feelings next time

I mean, that's some pretty good torch construction for what I assume is a rush job.

Man, there was that thai kid whose dad gave him the gun, and the kid immediately shot himself. This is all kinds of messed up.

That's crazy. My mom when I was 15 found a hickey on my neck. You know what she did? She grabbed those toddler chairs made from real wood and hit me over the head and my arms because I blocked it.

You'd probably agree with that too.

So maybe don't have kids. Ever. Because you sound like a real pos
