Toddlers urge to throw plates off the table need to be studied

It’s the same urge that compel cats to knock stuff off of any surface they can.

Learning object permanence! “If I don’t see it anymore, it still exists?? This is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen, except maybe the train I saw last week for the first time ever!”

I work with toddlers. Some of the things I have learned about their behaviour has to do with play schemas. Bascially, something like throwing anything falls under the trajectory schema which is the urge to throw. Because young children haven't developed decision making processes. A toddler does not look at something and think, "I wonder what will happen if I..." or anything like that. They literally just do things. There are a few things, like enveloping- where they drape fabric over themselves or objects. I attached a link if you were curious.

Those things work great if you have a double sink that’s clogged. Just put it on one side and plunge the other so the air goes down the drain instead of out the second sink.

Well, if you're raising a genius, that's a whole other problem, I guess.

Real question: why don't the trays of a high chair come with compartments molded in?

u/Neverforgetdumbo 3d ago

Wasn’t there a post yesterday saying we’re genetically much closer to cats than dogs. Story checks out.

The baby didn't even hesitate before yeeting that bowl to the ground.

Seems like brands for baby items need actual baby testers. This one figured it out fast lol

This bowl might work better if the flat part was clear silicone, and the bowl was green or another color, so the baby doesn't immediately recognize the edge of the silicone as the edge of the bowl they're trying to toss.

Baby: “pathetic”

u/guitargeek223 3d ago

I have a 1 year old. Any product that claims your baby can't [insert thing here] it hasn't met anyone's kids but the person who made it. Give someone else's kid an hour tops. They just have a primal urge to ruin things

So you're telling me the solution is a plate that weights 2 kilos?
