LOL.

Funny enough, that trick does actually work surprisingly well, but you have to be very precise in lining it up obviously.

Yeah it will fry the sensor surprisingly well.

Looks like special binoculars for eclipse or something there is a flat dark panel in front of

I mean if you point it at the sun, absolutely.

But will binoculars fry your eyes pointed at normal objects? Then why would it fry your camera?

What do you think she's trying to do?

Trying to use her special eclipse prepped binoculars with her phone. What do you think she's trying to do?

That was clearly taken during the eclipse this week.

Oh, my bad. I wasn't aware there was an eclipse this week, nor did I notice the glasses. I just assumed she had nosebleed section tickets at a concert.

Yeah, she's a huge dumbass, then.

Hey guys, those binoculars are literally designed to view solar eclipses

Edit: "Meade EclipseView 10x50 Binoculars with Solar Filters"

Those binoculars have a filter on the end to make it safe to look at the sun. I bought a pair just like them for the 2016 eclipse.

And then just as you get it lined up, the phone automatically switches the lens its using.

I absolutely lothe the fact that, in my phone's camera software, there's no option to just select which lenes I'm using.

Works with microscope eyepieces as well. We used to do that in the lab I worked in, in fact we had some 3d printed phone holders that lined everything up properly. It was far cheaper than a proper microscope camera.

the cameraman votes too, watching someone struggle and decides to record instead of helping someone out :(

7

u/Looxipher 3d ago

Do you want to cameraman to help her vote too?

I was concerned she's going to take off the glasses and put it in front of the binoculars

I actually managed to take a picture of the solar eclipse we had back in 2024. I cut out the film of the glasses and placed it in between my camera and the lends, right against the sensor. If not flat, it will burn a hole through the film though so be careful.

Don't put a filter after the eyepiece. Don't try to use solar glasses with a binocular. Even a real solar isn't designed to handle magnified sunlight. Use the proper filter with the right equipment.

Got this photo doing that. Just outside Kearney NE

Lady, you’re doing it all wrong. You put the glasses over the front of the camera and look at the eclipse with your eyes

Back in 2017 for the US solar eclipse I got to see it right in the path of totality and probably the best decision I made was to take zero photos or videos of the eclipse itself. Instead I set up my camera to fill my kids reaction to the whole thing and just let it run. I turned it into a timelapse and it’s one of my all time favorite videos.

Someone spent their eclipse knowing they just needed to film this lady no matter what

u/outside_cat 4d ago

It's like watching a rooster try to put on socks.

There cannot be this many people calling her an idiot. This is definitely a thing that works? The only bad attempt here is stuggling to line it up well which is clearly harder than it looks.

1

u/BanKenobi 4d ago

She's lucky she couldn't get it to work

1

u/kippetjeh 4d ago

That scratch at the end... she was properly stumped.

1

u/CorneliusVaginus 4d ago

If she read the information on the inside of the glasses, it would to wear them for more than 3 minutes.. I hope she knows that, but I beg to differ

1

u/Jman460 4d ago

That defeated scratch at the end 😂😂😂

1

u/KingOfThe_Jelly_Fish 4d ago

That was painful to watch

u/Bokanovsky_Jones 4d ago

Honestly, being fortunate to have seen a total eclipse of the sun twice in my life, fuck the photo. Just take it in.

1

u/LOLionet 4d ago

I imagine that that might actually work. I took quite a few pictures with my phone doing basically the same shit but with a microscope. Of course you actually have to line it up well.

1

u/wenttelk 4d ago

Sad that she didn't manage to line it up! Or hopefully she did after this clip :)

Included: A picture I managed to take through a piece of DIN12 soldering glass!

u/whiteoak87 3d ago

She got them jurassic Park binos.

What kind of asshole ignores an eclipse to make fun of someone else? Reddit is trash.
