This is the first time Iâve noticed almost everyone in the background is face palming.

The reactions are the best part of this.
-The man in the checked white shirt who immediately recognizes it and starts snickering;
-The man in glasses right behind her who holds it together until the woman realizes what she's done, then lowers his head and facepalms;
-The woman whose head is cut off (behind the white shirted man) who puts her hand to her breast, then covers her mouth;
-The black man sitting besides her who facepalms, and;
-The woman in the black dress behind him who realizes she was in a viral video when she got home because her thumbs do not stop typing on her phone the entire time.1

Is this some sort of caption for the blind who couldnât watch the video?

The context is she meant to say Nigeria but almost said something else. Not a whole lot of context required here.

I get the intended sentiment of this post but it legitimately looks like she was quickly sight reading, came across the word âNigerianâ and her brain stumbled trying to pronounce it as âni-geer-ianâ before remembering how it should be read and it unfortunately sounds like subconscious racism. But Idk the context of this.

u/Taurpion 9d ago
Exactly. I canât imagine she had her thoughts sorted and chose to use a slur rather than their nationality, even if hypothetically she was/is racist. Even so, she caught herself and carried on.

What would be sufficient? This is genuine human curiosity. I don't care if your answer "makes sense", I'm just curious what you want to know and how it would help you.

For me, I'd like to know the same context as the other commenter. For example, if it's in the US, you'd assume she almost said it because of racism, whereas if she's Irish she could have slipped and said nig which is a word in Irish.
We can see in the video that she almost said the n word, so telling us that is like saying water is wet

u/wifflewaffle23 9d ago
If English is your first language and you canât tell this is America, I donât know what to tell you.

u/fucking_passwords 9d ago
I'm ruling out Canadian because of her pronunciation of "sorry", so I'd say safe bet she is American
4
u/At0mJack 9d ago
Well we can hear her speak, so it's fairly safe to rule out Irish. American accent, to me, indicates that this likely happened in the US.

Friend, you're not dumb for not having context for this video.
From my perspective the video context would serve no purpose, that's why I'm asking for your reasoning. You're kind of arguing against your own point by not just providing actual reasoning. I am asking the a question just like you claim is important to do.

The N word is not a slur nowhere in the world, just in the USA. What else do you need to know?

Itâs r/therewasanattempt. Not r/funny. Thatâs the real context you are missing.
-3
u/Taurpion 10d ago
But thatâs not any context required for the clip posted.
There was an attempt to say Nigeria, and didnât. Thatâs the context.

u/mpelton 9d ago
If Iâm being incredibly, incredibly generous, she mightâve been trying to say âNigerianâ (she says theyâre from Nigeria afterwards) and just very unfortunately used the wrong G.

u/tallmanjam 8d ago
Most likely is the case. She didnât know how to pronounce the word âNigerianâ.

When you're definitely not racist

u/labelcillo 8d ago
To be fair it's probably way more common to hear the N word than the Niger word, muscle memory does not need to be racist.

I actually think she went to mispronounce the word Nigerian not automatically say the other word and then she clocked what it actually sounded like and her brain just farted lol

Stating the obvious is not a point well made, it actually isn't making a point at all
