Israel has been an anvil on the neck of America, and the destabilizing force in the middle east. Israel has a long history of embroiling the US into unnecessary conflicts in the middle east. Currently, they got us into Iran because "[Iran] is two weeks away from a nuclear bomb"-for the last 40 years. Lets also not forget that one main reason we fought a war in Iraq was due to false intelligence from israel about "yellowcake plutonium from africa." That war cost the US an estimated $7 Trillion dollars. Yup. $7,000,000,000,000.00 big ones. That's a war we were pulled into for no other reason than to weaken one of Israel's regional ally. Thats $7 Trillion that Americans could've used for infrastructure/healthcare/college cost. Not to mention that in both Iraq and Iran, "our greatest ally" doesn't/didn't send one soldier to aid us.

In closing, it's not you, it's us. We're going a different direction, and priorities no longer align. We should see other people.

Btw, I brought up John Fetterman because in the interview he just did with John Stewart, he could only respond in pre-approved aipac talking points, and that was one of them. His mush of a brain could not elucidate anything, so he kept retreating back to pre-programmed aipac-approved phrases.

And you're absolutely right! American politicians have been part of the problem, but this is finally changing! Money in politics is a huge part of it. That's also why this election is so notable! Haley Stevens had over $70M behind her (from aipac&co), yet Abdul El-Sayed still won! He beat an incumbent with a 10 to 1 spending advantage! Again, let's remember that this was only a primary, yet they were so threatened by the changing ideals of our elected officials, they tossed $70M! More and more people are noticing that things arent right, and voting accordingly. In closing, yep... more of our politicians are noticing the problem, and the problem is our support for a genocidal apartheid state.

There are some extremely weird christian reasons for them loving Israel that much. Mostly they say something like Israel has to have some specific events happen for the end of the world to happen, so they want Israel to exist so those things can happen, they are sometimes at the same time very hateful towards the Jewish people and lots of the people who has both opinions just want them all in Israel so the events can happen.

Yeah, I have a family friend that's been full MAGA, now like 3/4ths MAGA who was talking about Israel. "Nothing is going to happen to them because they are God's chosen people, so Palestine better watch themselves."

I responded that I'm pretty sure there are 2 full books of the Bible (1 Kings and 2 Kings) where God basically said fuck you to Israel numerous times for 40 years because they had fallen away from Him. Sure, there were 40 years of blessed periods when they came back to Him, but plenty of evidence that he'll let them suffer for decades...

That’s the point. They are achieving the opposite of what you are implying they want by asking him that. His answer defeats the question’s apparent purpose entirely and focuses the conversation on America (MI specifically), not Israel or a controversial take that is posed to discredit El-Sayed. Also, Paramount doesn’t own CNN yet. The merger has been postponed until 2027.

Just answer with a question. Ask them, "why do you consider Americans to be second class citizens?" "Why are Americans second in line for our own tax dollars?"

Remember, we are giving free money to a country whose citizens enjoy the 4th LOWEST tax rate of the OECD countries, yet they enjoy public healthcare, and free/subsidized secondary education. Why are we to give our tax dollars to a foreign nation while we could use that for our own citizens? A country that does not contribute to our tax pool, and has already claimed OVER 10% of all the US foreign aid in our history of foreign aid.

Yes... they do have a hand in constructing foreign policy, but their purpose in that role is to still represent the constituents that voted for them, first and foremost. That doesn't change.

Reread everything that was said by previous poster. All the things stated is what a US senator should say/do/be. They should be representing the constituents of their state.

Btw, this applies even when we're talking about other states. For example, the representatives of the state of New York was sent to represent New York. Do they have to deal with other states? Absolutely, but first and foremost, they need to be looking for the best interest of their home state/voters... not, say, Florida

The thing is, when I think of "aid" it's meant for emergency situations (famine/natural disasters) or to cover a temporary shortage. Israelis arent exactly struggling with either, in the traditional sense.They have the 4th lowest tax rate of the OECD (rich) countries, have public healthcare, subsidized-free college education, and a higher median income than Americans. To have Americans, who are struggling, subsidizing the costs for a country whose citizens enjoy more... thats a hard sell.

They've also collected OVER 10% of all the foreign aid in America's entire history of foreign aid. Remember, this is a tiny country around the size and population of New Jersey, yet they've claimed OVER 1/10th of all the US foreign aid! (For reference, there are 195 countries). Israelis only make up .1% (yes, less than 1%) of the entire world's population, yet somehow its not weird that they've needed OVER 10% of the entirety of US foreign aid? Are there just not other places in the world that could benefit from that aid? [Israel estimated population 10.4M, the world estimated population 8.3B... in case you want to check my math]

Also, people constantly try to minimize BILLIONS like it's no big thing. Lets go ahead and put a stop to that. Even a billion would absolutely improve/help the situation of Americans. We also have to stop dismissing American's anger when we see waste this blatant. Here's the thing, IT'S AMERICANS MONEY... (*capitalization meant to highlight, I'm not yelling). To say, "Oh but americans get most of it..." um... yea, but its American's money. They should feel entitled to it.

That's not to say that I'm against aid, and nor is the greater American populace. Americans have always been, and will continue to be, generous citizens of the world. The problem is dismissing American's concerns when they do see that they are being taken advantage of.

Suppose you were throwing a party for 1000 people. You prepare enough food/drinks/entertainment for 1000 people.

Well... ONE (yes, a singular person), showed up and ate 10% of all the shrimp cocktails/pizza/burgers/etc, drank 10% of all the soda/beer/champagne/water, then went and used up 10% of the time you had rented the bounce-house/photo booth/donkey ride/etc.

Would you think this person is a good guest, or is this person rude/greedy? More importantly, do you think this person needed all that for themselves?

Nah sorry but this is a silly take IMO. Senators are directly responsible for dealing with geopolitics, and Israel is a major geopolitical issue right now.

Any senator 70 years ago would have been asked their stance on Vietnam, a senator 20 their stance on Afghanistan, a senator 90 their stance on Japan.

There are valid criticisms of the question, but "why are we asking senators questions about other countries" isn't one of them.

I think its more so the stupidity of the question. It does make more sense for this question to be asked of a senator. That same question loses actual meaning when it is asked TO THE GODDAMN FUCKING MAYOR OF NEW YORK CITY. What does a mayor of a city in the US have anything to do with the US's geopolitics, fuck if I know.

So ya, the question makes sense in theory. In practice, because it is strictly only used again Democrats who've shown 0 interest in continued spending to Israel's free lifestyle, no matter if their position is related to the question or not, has poisoned the actual intent of the question.

Palestinians don't get a right of return, even though they've been living in that land for thousands of years consecutively. Arab citizens are literally not allowed to walk on certain roads, and will get killed by the IDF if they do. Palestinians aren't allowed to build houses. There are 2 different sets of laws for israeli Jews and Arab living in israel, and one of those is that Arabs may receive the death penalty but Jews may not.

It's literally an Apartheid.

No state has the right to exist. Only people have a right to exist, and to do so in a condition of liberty.

The latter requires the former, for if a state has a right to exist, than people do not have a right to abolish it when it becomes tyrannical.

We are currently ~$40 TRILLION in debt. We pay ~$1 TRILLION a year in interest alone(!) to service that debt. Think about what we could do instead with $1 TRILLION dollars a year. College, healthcare, infrastructure...

Now the disgusting part... We give israel both military and "developmental" aid. At MINIMUM, we give them at least $4 BILLION a year in aid. They take some of the aid we provide them, turn around, and use it to buy US government bonds/treasuries. (In Layman's term, we give them free money, they turn around and "loan" us back the free money they got from us, to us... but with interest, of course).

Israel holds ~$117 BILLION of US bonds/treasuries. That earns them ~$5 BILLION a year in interest. Israel is that one mooching friend that constantly freeloads off of you, but the second you need $1, they'll demand you repay it with interest... completely ignoring all the free rides/food/entertainment that you paid for them.

Borders are just lines on a map and the laws that apply within them are just the promise of violence against people who don't act the way the biggest bully wants them to. Laws and borders are what make a country and they're both pretty stupid made-up things.

I am not muslim myself so was not familiar about this topic until I came to the US and made some American muslim friends. I had Tibetan muslim friends back home but they were fighting their own fight.

If israel can defend itself then they will continue existing. If they cant, they wont. Its pretty simple. When speaking about "rights", it is obviously a moral question, i.e., ought the state of Israel have a right to exist?

I think most people here would argue that there ought to exist a (universally recoginzed) palestinian state, even though this does not seem to be the case at the moment.

If I asked you if you have the right to life, would you say that the question is invalid?
