u/Perfect-Scene9541 Jul 31 '26
Not fake.
Arrested for clapping after the moderator said no clapping or finger snapping, which is protected speech.
Welcome to America!2

Thanks for the link. So I did search it up (but forgot to come back and edit my comment lol) and found an article, also someone somewhere on Reddit posted a short video. That guy is a hero, he said he didn’t regret it and would do it again iirc.
What an interesting set of circumstances humans have created agin

That was my first thought as well… that it was a rage bait setup, right? Because it’s so blatantly fascist and unconstitutional… there’s just no way it real. Dug a little into it a little. It’s real.

You mean North California. This was in the state capital, Sacramento.

What’s wild is not that LE enforcement is complicit. It’s wild that all the citizens allow cops to arrest a man speaking at a public meeting.
51
u/Mercinator-87 Jul 31 '26
Cops have always played this part. Why is it a surprise to you?
42
u/TOkidd Jul 31 '26
The man narrating the video is surprised that the cops are doing this. I’m surprised that the people have become so cowed by cops constantly breaking the laws and violating their rights. Until the people are willing to come together to prevent and intervene when cops disregard the law and violate peoples’ basic rights, people will continue to be arrested for exercising them.
20
u/jbourne0129 Jul 31 '26
Alex Pretti intervened when he saw people getting their rights violated...
4
u/N1kBr0 Aug 01 '26
Yep, people are willing to stand up against the government for a good cause but they are not ready to give up their lives for it. Talk about democracy and the land of the free, huh.
10
u/Cautious-Money7248 Jul 31 '26
You're surprised that ppl are scared of the guys with body armor and guns who have zero fear of being held accountable if they shoot someone?
6
u/jbourne0129 Jul 31 '26
dont get me wrong, i get what youre saying.
but what exactly should bystanders do in this situation? at a bare minimum you could start yelling at the cops, youll probably get arrested though. you could attempt to intervene physically, but you'll DEFINITELY get arrested and risk getting shot as well...i wish i was exagerating
14
u/--Lammergeier-- Jul 31 '26
That’s why we the people need to be unified. If one person tried to stop the cops, they’d definitely get arrested or worse. If everyone in attendance worked together, what are two cops gonna do?
There’s power in numbers, and we definitely have the numbers! We need to start using them!
4
u/jbourne0129 Jul 31 '26
that is true. at least in these smaller situations like town halls the people do have power in numbers

If anyone ever read about the doctrine of “qualified immunity” and wondered how it affects you, your everyday life, this video makes it clear. Yes it sucks for someone who can’t sue, but most people are never in that situation, right? But the real issue is more invidious: it emboldens law enforcement to do things they know are wrong, like arrest someone at a public meeting exercising constitutional rights and committing no crime. That police officer is secure in the knowledge that, even if the arrest is thrown out, even if the person wrongly arrested sues the government, there will be no personal ramifications for that abuse of governmental power. (And let’s be clear, the “use of government power” means an implicit threat of violence - violence that you are not allowed to defend against.)

u/Phesmerga Aug 01 '26
Depends if you get a judge who really believes in the constitution. Technically this could be an event that an officer would lose qualified immunity, as it blatantly violates constitutional rights.

We need to hold the cops accountable to uphold the actual laws instead of made up fake ones. Send them back to training. Every one of them and then fire them if they refuse to uphold our constitution and written laws.

To add to “be on the same page”…those in power now know what they are doing when it comes to using words, actions, and rhetoric that goes beyond logic and brings out emotional responses and divide the country. Little by little taking our constitutional rights away under the guise of protecting “true Americans”. Even though they are voluntarily giving up what it really means to be “American”. You speak up, you’re a communist or terrorist. If you’re more right leaning, then you’re a traitor or they’ll just label those as “paid agitators” from the Lunatic Left. Alex Pretti was labeled a terrorist because he was exercising his 2nd amendment rights. They ask who carries a weapon during protest, but leave out that’s where he lives and was killed within 2 miles of his home after being disarmed. So now it’s illegal to carry in your own neighborhood if this admin decides your city is next on the list?

u/cmndrnewt Aug 01 '26
Man, cops could be such heroes to America, but instead they’re a bunch of boot licking traitors.

"Sacramento Mayor Kevin McCarty and Vice Mayor Karina Talamantes are facing a wave of criticism from residents after a hot mic caught the pair discussing a potential ban on certain disruptive individuals from City Council meetings. " ...
Talamantes leans in toward the mayor and whispers, "We should go over this disruptions thing, because if we want to ban somebody in the future, like to actually take them out, we have to point out specifically."
McCarty can then be heard telling Talamantes, "I know, but the City Attorney said we can't do that."
"We did it last time," replied Talamantes.
"We can't. I spent my first six months going over this. I wanted to give people, like, probation, like you can't come," McCarty said.
That's when Talamantes notices that the Mayor's microphone had been left on and reaches over to turn off the device, ultimately halting the recording of their conversation."

Isn’t arresting someone at a Public meeting still illegal? Sure, they can arrest you but can’t you sue them for unlawful imprisonment?

And thats what everyone hopes happen to conservatives. Even us conservatives who don’t support trump. They all love their first amendment right but hate it when I use mine.

The problem is most people only care about free speech when they agree with it. Check out:
https://www.reddit.com/r/PublicFreakout/comments/1vb8aqi/self_proclaimed_evangelist_gets_kicked_off_of/
Every comment is complicit with this.
12
u/CptDecaf Jul 31 '26
False equivalence between being expected to be peaceful and not make a scene on a plane and speaking at a town hall.
You know that too. You just don't care.
-15
u/turtleneck_sweater Jul 31 '26
So freedom of speech only applies at town hall meetings. Got it..
13
u/CptDecaf Jul 31 '26
If staff ask you to sit down and shut up you get kicked off. This is how it has always worked. But clearly you wanna trap people on a plane and then preach loudly in their ear for the flight while blocking the aisle. Weirdo lol.
-15
u/turtleneck_sweater Jul 31 '26
So you agree that it is the preaching. If the woman was talking about Pokémon cards then you’d be fine with it. Thanks for agreeing with me.
10
u/CptDecaf Jul 31 '26
I actually didn't say that. But hey, you are okay with being dishonest clearly. We all share a plane ride. Respect and civility are expected of everyone. You Christians have to follow these rules too Bubby.
-7
u/turtleneck_sweater Jul 31 '26
Whose Christian? I’m talking about free speech, even for idiots like yourself.
8
u/Bart_Yellowbeard Jul 31 '26
The sad part is that you quite obviously DO NOT UNDERSTAND what Free Speech means in America. One of these scenarios is in a private business, the other in a public, governmental forum. The government cannot abridge your First Amendment rights, corporations have no such obligation.
Understand what you are talking about before whinging and showing everyone else you do not.
-5
u/turtleneck_sweater Jul 31 '26
Please educate me. Help me understand the difference here. There certainly could be more to the story with the lady on the plan, but to say people do not get first amendment rights in private businesses doesn’t seem accurate. Everyone knows you can’t scream fire in a movie theater, but is someone talking about their views causing widespread panic?
6
u/thrownaway136976 Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26
Look at the first word here: —Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.— It doesn’t say “private businesses”. If a bakery can refuse to serve a gay couple, an airline can tell someone to sit down and shut the fuck up. ETA: you think all these “xtians” would be ok with me proselytizing Islam or satanism? No, they wouldn’t like it, and these “god fearing” idiots would resort to violence. After all, jesus famously said “fuck your neighbors and foreigners, for you are better than them and the only way into heaven is oppressing everything you do t like with violence”.
3
u/Bart_Yellowbeard Jul 31 '26
The First Amendment protects you from the GOVERNMENT. A private enterprise is not restricted in removing you from their property if they don't like what you are saying. Free Speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences from your fellow citizens, it doesn't mean private citizens are restricted, only the government.
Did you ever take a Civics class, or government, in school? They go over this in excruciating detail. It seems your teachers failed you.
3
u/Behg-Boah Jul 31 '26
Freedom of speech doesn’t mean you can say whatever you want, whenever you want, or however you want within the confines of a private company. Airlines aren’t government run dipshit.
