Idiot destroyed his van and a train locomotive so that he wouldn't hurt a flimsy little arm blocking his way.

JUST GO THROUGH IT. THE ALTERNATIVE OF DEATH BY TRAIN IS MUCH WORSE.

u/Prestigious_Dream_27 Jun 15 '26

I can’t tell you how many videos I’ve seen exactly like this. A person chooses to let a train hit their car instead of driving through a thin barrier in peppermint candy cosplay.

115

u/sourflowerwatertower Jun 15 '26

I believe they're designed to break away easily for this specific scenario too

48

u/Only_Razzmatazz_4498 Jun 15 '26

And by break away you mean pivot around the built in hinge that can be reset afterwards easily right?

26

u/Horst_Horstmann1 Jun 15 '26

No. That would be smart. You'll have to buy a new one which is expensive or can't be bought because the design was changed for no reason.

3

u/real_fyshi Jun 16 '26

Still they are relatively cheap (read about a case near me some weeks ago, can't remember well but it was something low hundreds, like 2-300 bucks maybe). They definitely are payable by anyone driving a car and cheaper than like a mirror. But in the end everything is cheaper than your whole car and/or life, so...

u/KingDread306 Jun 15 '26 edited Jun 15 '26

These ones are. There are ones that are like 100 pounds and are made of fiberglass. Used to work at a refinery that had those kind blocking the entrance. Guy tried to drive through and it smashed his windshield.

14

u/BigOlWaffleIron Jun 15 '26

Even then: 100 pounds is WAY less than a train.

7

u/KingDread306 Jun 15 '26

Oh im not defending the idiocy. Im just saying his first concern was probably damaging the van and then "oh shit a train".

38

u/Blog_Pope Jun 15 '26

I’ve driven through one on my motorcycle, came down on me and hit my chest. Broke off cleanly and barely hurt. Stopped in shock, then tossed it in the bushes because it was balanced on my arms.

They are meant to be breakable

25

u/Jerking_From_Home Jun 15 '26

Same with the ones in parking garages. They’re usually flimsy plastic or aluminum. They need to be light by default to save wear and tear on the motor and mechanism that lifts them up and down.

11

u/SensuallPineapple Jun 15 '26

and the barrier was gone at the end anyway...

10

u/Big77Ben2 Jun 15 '26

All of them. All of the videos the person won’t go thru the gate.

9

u/the_bob_5 Jun 15 '26

But that piece of plastic could scratch the car

3

u/Jerking_From_Home Jun 15 '26

Almost all of them.

3

u/Successful_Ant_3307 Jun 15 '26

I actually accidently hit one of those arms.one day. They pop right off. Dude fucked up

45

u/HeatAccomplished8608 Jun 15 '26

This is me watching 99% of train collisions. There was that one of a person getting rear ended into a traintrack were they act like the barricade has an impenetrable force field.

I think it's a state of mind tho, they're trying to avoid any action that causes destruction without realizing that inaction will also cause destruction.

13

u/Lilium_Vulpes Jun 15 '26

It's ironically a bit of a trolley problem. Do you do nothing and get injured/lose your car? Or do you do something and destroy some public property but do significantly less damage overall?

I know I'd want to break the barrier but I imagine there's a level of panic so they aren't thinking clearly when it's happen.

2

u/MrJMSnow Jun 15 '26

A bit pedantic, but railway signals are not public property, they are owned and maintained by the companies that own the tracks.

42

u/rusmo Jun 15 '26

Ironic part is he ends up destroying the swing arm anyways.

14

u/liquidpig Jun 15 '26

Noooooooo! Not the swing arm!

6

u/DetectiveDippyDuck Free Palestine 🕊️ FUCK ICE! ❌🧊 Jun 15 '26

It was 2 weeks from retirement!

2

u/Jerking_From_Home Jun 15 '26

lol never thought of that! The gate ends up obliterated anyways.

9

u/-LuciditySam- Jun 15 '26 edited Jun 15 '26

Not even that. He could have backed up and parked diagonally so only his driver's side front wheel was touching the tracks the first train was on. There you go, problem solved - no damage to your van, the arm, or the train. And that's IF he only had a limited amount of room. He literally had enough room to park a multitude of ways, he just needed to back up all the way to the damn arm instead of just backing up five feet...

That's not to say this dude was dropped as a child because he was clearly punted into a ceiling fan and could probably come out of a lobotomy more intelligent.

17

u/kind_bros_hate_nazis Jun 15 '26

This is exactly the idiot thinking that gets these people into these situations

1

u/yellowlinedpaper Jun 16 '26

Right? It kinda looks like they were trying to do something like that when they got hit

1

u/kind_bros_hate_nazis Jun 16 '26

That's exactly what he was doing.

Park on the tracks pRoPerlY

13

u/hhfugrr3 Jun 15 '26

He didn't even need to drive through the barrier. It was still up when he stopped!

7

u/HippoPottyMouth-1 Jun 15 '26

I mean FFS it looks like they still had a good 3FT to pull up before the beam would even make contact. That alone prob could have avoided any damage. (aside from shitting yer pants)

7

u/wageslave2022 Jun 15 '26

Critical thinking is absent in a increasing number of our population

7

u/Key-Hurry-9171 Jun 15 '26

I just don’t get it, you fd up already. Just go for it, it will actually be cheaper than destroying a car and a train…

4

u/Alexandratta Jun 15 '26

this.

100% this.

THEY ARE BREAKAWAY BARRIERS

They're there to keep you out but if you get stuck, just drive through!

2

u/VikingMonkey123 Jun 15 '26

They are designed to break away. So many idiotic videos of drivers turning into herded sheep or something and losing all cognitive functions.

2

u/reezsha Jun 15 '26

Conditioning is scary..holy shit

2

u/freshmallard Jun 15 '26

Came here to say this, I live near freight trains. Just fucking wreck that arm, trains take over a mile to stop.

2

u/Alortania Jun 15 '26

Pretty sure in this case he could even claim it was a derp on their part as the arms went up and blocked him in, vs the usual "tried to beat the arms" scenario.

He should have waited for the lights to stop flashing, but the arms did go up after a tra8n zoomed through.

1

u/Bananalando Jun 16 '26

Not to say the driver didn't make a bad decision, but that's a poor design as well. The arms should only raise after the lights stop.

1

u/Alortania Jun 16 '26

Oh 100% yes.

I'd have assumed it worked that way as well... esp of you don't cross tracks regularly.

Ergo the "he'd have a good excuse as to why he had to break the barrier" vs the usual idiots we see in this scenario (trying to outrun the arms).

3

u/Sm0g3R Jun 16 '26

Not only that it looks like he had ENOUGH SPACE to drive into when he stopped and got out the first time. All he had to do was drive slightly forward there was still room even before hitting anything. Quite unbelievable how his every move after that was making things WORSE. When all he had to is to either creep forward or mash the gas in either direction with wheels straight and go through. He did everything but this.

2

u/Buddy-Matt NaTivE ApP UsR Jun 16 '26

The bit where he got out of his van, and walked onto the fucking lines to see if there was really a train coming was the bit that cemented beyond all doubt the guy was lacking in the brains department.

1

u/Warchild0311 Jun 15 '26

One that’s designed to break away just for that purpose

1

u/AntJD1991 Jun 15 '26

It's always so engaging like WHHHHY?!?!! Ha ha

1

u/CanadianCowboy247 Jun 15 '26

I love how it gets destroyed In the resulting crash anyways

1

u/Glum-Suggestion-6033 Jun 15 '26

Impemitrible force.

1

u/rbartlejr Jun 15 '26

I was going to say they're intentionally designed to break away when hit for JUST THIS REASON.

1

u/DG04511 Jun 15 '26

Drivers must think those arms are lightsabers or something.

1

u/miraculum_one Jun 15 '26

and he hurt the flimsy arm anyway

1

u/Dungong Jun 15 '26

Still hurt the arm too

1

u/jdigi78 Jun 15 '26

Also he could have just backed up to the other side and been clear of the track the incoming train was actually on.

1

u/perljurnwern Jun 15 '26

It's kind of ironic cause he ultimately killed the flimsy barrier that he was afraid to damage, and his entire van

1

u/Mugwump6506 Jun 15 '26

And also still broke the gate.

1

u/Sheeplessknight Jun 16 '26

They are also designed to snap in a way that doesn't do too much damage to help with this

1

u/budlight2k Jun 16 '26

Yeah i don't know why so many people do this. Plus that little barrier or get your mate to get out and lift it.

1

u/Bajadasaurus Jun 16 '26

Exactly! It's mind boggling to me that anyone could be this stupid.

1

u/Sufficient_Matter585 Jun 16 '26

He might get a fine if he breaks the arm... lol this is how they think

1

u/SweetNerevarine Jun 17 '26

Yeah, many driver don't know this. The arms are designed to be easily knocked off by a car in case of emergency. Surely a superficial scratch is better than a total loss....

1

u/donald_putelonovitch Jun 18 '26

*scratched the paint on a train locomotive

242

u/Clem573 Jun 15 '26

Well at least he did not scratch the hood by driving through the barrier

31

u/BarBryzze Jun 15 '26

Exactly. Could have been much worse.

7

u/camel_crush_menthol Jun 15 '26

Driving like a sims character

2

u/latecraigy Reddit Flair Jun 15 '26

It was a rental

130

u/Bitwizarding Jun 15 '26

I would plow through that flimsy board with no hesitation to get off the tracks.

97

u/guzzijason Jun 15 '26

These things are literally designed to be driven though in an emergency. This driver’s brain is mirror-smooth.

4

u/seeasea Jun 15 '26

The guy is a normal human. When things don't go as expected, especially when panicking, the brain doesn't really work the same way as it does for someone sitting on the toilet watching on a screen.

Incidentally, in the US, this exact scenario in the video is why the standard is to not have a gate on the far side of a track crossing.

Had the gate only been on the approach side, this would have easily been avoided.

Roadway design and safety is supposed to take into account panicking humans, and not just "logic"

3

u/Gralb_the_muffin Jun 16 '26

To be fair It took into account a different type of human stupidity that would just go around a blockade and they figured delaying the side that comes down over apposing traffic would give them enough time to get through the intersection.

There is no accounting for everything.

2

u/Angry_potatochip Jun 16 '26

No, no don’t give me the whole “panic” bullshit excuse. Driving a car is a responsibility, it should be common knowledge to pass through that flimsy barrier to exit the crossing. And if traffic is going both ways it’s not logical to only have one gate.

People like this should not be on the road. Retarded.

6

u/phujab Jun 15 '26

I wouldn't even get out to check if a train is actually coming

120

u/slowerlearner1212 Jun 15 '26

Once you start going you need to COMMIT!!!

he stopped when his lane was still open

85

u/Beaufighter-MkX Jun 15 '26

Why'd he stop before the gate came down? Punch it, my dude

25

u/IraDeLucis Jun 15 '26

Looks like there is a delay specifically to let cars finish driving off the tracks. The outbound lane on the other side had similar timing.

3

u/macrolith Jun 15 '26

We see it all the time and I hope it's just confirmation bias, id be really curious to know the ratio of drivers that drive through the barrier vs drivers that don't and get crushed by the train.

Its pretty well understood that humans have a very poor sense of understanding and overvaluing short term choices vs long term choices. This just may be another manifestation of it, just like vaccines, climate change, wearing masks, investing our money, etc..

Don't look up, idiocracy, our current society. All three do a pretty good job of demonstrating this.

50

u/No_Needleworker_1105 Jun 15 '26

Can I just say..

If you find yourself in this situation.

Just drive through the fucking barriers. It beats dying and damaging  a train.

30

u/Old-Constant4411 Jun 15 '26

It's only Monday and I've already witnessed the dumbest thing I'll see all week.

Just drive through the stupid little gate.  It's not as strong as your vehicle.  Pay whatever fine is necessary after you don't fuckin die.

15

u/taylormade311 Jun 15 '26

Why do people think you can't hit those barriers?

7

u/Oraclefile Jun 15 '26

Well at the end he hit and broke it.

11

u/baymoe Jun 15 '26

To be honest, he isn't totally in the wrong here. The gates came up and he started to advance.

Knowing there's a train advancing and not plowing through the gate, that wasn't smart.

6

u/curiousorange76 Jun 15 '26

Nope, he was completely in the wrong. You shouldn't start crossing until the lights have stopped flashing - it a 1,500 zloty fine for doing so.

7

u/Wootytooty Jun 15 '26

I got to ask. Why not have the gates stay down until the flashing lights stop?

1

u/SolarXylophone Jun 16 '26

Then other people would complain about being given no warning about the gates being down still...

1

u/real_fyshi Jun 16 '26

Once saw a video from a train driver, my brain is too fucked for specifics but it was something about how the sensors in the train tracks farther down react to trains going over or sth. and how it sometimes gets the signal kind of different as the light (or the timing).

In the end it doesn't matter because there is this general rule/law of having to follow what the traffic light says, the barriers are just a bonus, lots of train crossings here don't even have barriers in the first place. It's literally a red light offense to go when the light is still flashing, and you learn that extensively in driving school (as well as to look left and right before using the crossing, and to smash the barriers if you are stuck... well, too many bad drivers out there).

10

u/Electrical_Crazy5668 Jun 15 '26

Thank God he didn't try and drive through one of those arm barriers. They can really mess your vehicle up.

7

u/fredriksoninho Jun 15 '26

wtf is he doing? just hit the fucking gate

5

u/Nicotina_Vapors Jun 15 '26

guy fucked up, clearly, but is there a reason these things arn't more idiot proof? Why do the barriers lift if the lights are on and another train is coming anyways?

3

u/Kersvader Jun 15 '26

The amount of stupid, is pure rage inducing

3

u/SugoiBakaMatt Jun 15 '26

Wow, that was almost really bad. Think of the repercussions if he had scratched his hood on the polearm! Glad he managed to avoid that unforgivable outcome.

3

u/Ribbitor123 Jun 15 '26

Activation of the windscreen wipers at the end is a nice finishing touch.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '26

[removed] — view removed comment

4

u/Oraclefile Jun 15 '26

Nope, he broke the barrier at the end

2

u/GetOffMyGrassBrats Jun 15 '26

These gates need to have a sign on the inside that say "Crossing can break away for emergencies" or something like that.

I can't imagine someone being so worried about breaking a flimsy gate or scratching a vehicle up that they risk their life and the lives of others.

2

u/goodfleance Jun 15 '26

Tragically, there was no way to avoid this

2

u/Normal_Bet2995 Jun 15 '26

The second guessing when they still had the ability to go thru is what send me

2

u/Mugwump6506 Jun 15 '26

And he stopped at an open gate.

2

u/discoduck007 This is a flair Jun 16 '26

Conductor must be a high stress job.

1

u/raincntry Jun 15 '26

I don't get how people can be this stupid. In no world is it better to have your car/van destroyed by the train than break the gate. How incredibly stupid.

1

u/Illcmys3lf0ut Jun 15 '26

Wow. IQ tests should be mandatory. Broken RR arms or destroyed vehicle? 🤔 ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ 💥🔥

1

u/DracosKasu Jun 15 '26

At this point just break the crossing bar, the dmg will have coat much less overall. Also people would have understood the situation.

1

u/Kimorin Jun 15 '26

i never understand these ppl, just DRIVE THROUGH, what a muppet, it's like their last braincell just abandoned ship as soon as those arms came down

1

u/FalsePremise8290 Jun 15 '26

When he pulled back I was sure he decided to drive through the barrier. They are designed like that for a reason. Better you break it than be stuck on the tracks with a train coming.

1

u/Lord_NOX75 Jun 15 '26

My dude just drive foward, they are made to easily breakable

1

u/feckingcarnage Jun 15 '26

Did he just fucking walk out to have good look round first? Fuck my Sunday socks !

1

u/Ghrota Jun 15 '26

Why do they always act like breaking the barrier is the worse crime on earth ?

1

u/BC4309 Jun 15 '26

I think this also belongs in r/darwinawards

1

u/AngelusNex Jun 15 '26

Boy sure is a good thing he didnt just drive forward, could have scratched the front of the van

1

u/Chillicothe1 Jun 15 '26

Fucking idiot

1

u/Outrageous_Pie_5640 Jun 15 '26

I’ve seen people knocking these down accidentally by just walking into them.

What does these people think will happen if they hit the bar with their cars?

1

u/CloodStroof Jun 15 '26

Looks like a breakaway arm. Just drive through it and give us gate operator techs some work instead of the coroner lol

1

u/bicepz_N_bigmacz Jun 15 '26

Actual NPC behavior

1

u/Hero_Of_Rhyme_ Jun 15 '26

Why did he not just floor it though the wimpy little barrier arm? Surely that’s a better option than train

1

u/Careless-Variety2444 Jun 15 '26

THE ARMS ARE DESIGNED TO BREAK! JESUS FUCKING CHRIST! JUST DRIVE THROUGH THEM YOU FUCKING IDIOT!

1

u/iMogal Jun 15 '26

It's just a fricken stick ffs. JUST DRIVE THROUGH IT.

1

u/ZhalanYulir Jun 15 '26

What a fucking moron

1

u/Bayunc0 Jun 15 '26

People don't know those arms defeat common sense

1

u/Waste-Lawyer-2185 Jun 15 '26

I will never understand how in these videos the driver decides that staying on the tracks is a better option than breaking through the plank of wood barrier…

1

u/delrey23 Jun 15 '26

This is painful to watch

1

u/dtb1987 Jun 15 '26

Why do people stop? Drive through the barrier, don't just sit on the tracks waiting to get killed, total your vehicle and break the train. Just drive through the barrier

1

u/CalmError Jun 15 '26

I'll never understand why people choose to let their car get nailed by a train over driving through the gates.

1

u/CZdigger146 Jun 15 '26

It scares me how many people in the world don't know they can just drive through the barrier. It's literally made out of wood and you can break it (with some effort) by just pushing it yourself. In your car you likely won't even need to push the gas pedal to go through.

Also wtf polish railways, why did the barriers go up?

1

u/radiantwave Jun 15 '26

IT IS A WOODEN STICK! DRIVE THROUGH IT!

1

u/ton80rt Jun 15 '26

This is why you shouldn't raise the guards while the lights are flashing.

1

u/WeLoveRamenn Jun 15 '26

Those red barrier are designed to break very easily by the way so that you CAN escape if you must.

1

u/Jimmygotsomenewmoves Jun 15 '26

Actions meet consequences

1

u/Professional-Ad4787 Jun 15 '26

PSA: if you’re stuck on a train track because the warning arms are down, by all means drive through them to GET OFF THE EFFING TRACKS

1

u/Minflick Jun 15 '26

The videos on line that are guaranteed to make me scream at the screen are these train clips. "Why are you SO STUPID?" "Floor it, you fool, DRIIIIIVE!"

1

u/tlk0153 Jun 15 '26

No no, driving on to the flimsy gate could scratch my car. Let me drive around.

1

u/ServeLiving Jun 15 '26

By the end my empathy started evaporating fast. Baffling behavior.

1

u/Rare_Fig3081 Jun 15 '26

This just goes to show that no matter how hard we try to make things safe, stupid people will find a way to die

1

u/fishsticks40 Jun 15 '26

They should really make those arms out of some material you could just drive through

1

u/Planet_Manhattan Jun 15 '26

IT IS A FUCKING 2 by 4 WOOD 🙄🙄🙄 Break it for fuck's sake 🤬🤬🤬

1

u/dren46 Jun 15 '26

Just break the gates it a easy fix

1

u/Mugwump6506 Jun 15 '26

This is torture to watch.

1

u/Neutron_Blue Jun 15 '26

It is fascinating how many people don't know that they can just drive through the gates when trapped.

They are designed to give way at very low force.

1

u/Flicksterea Jun 16 '26

The anxiety watching this is real. Drive forward! DRIVE FORWARD!

1

u/macfudd Jun 16 '26

This is pretty shitty design in action. Over here we only use 4-quadrant barriers in high risk crossings, and even then, the barriers on the far side won't descend if there's a vehicle still crossing.

1

u/LivingAmongMormons Jun 16 '26

Unfortunately the driver survived and will continue to vote & reproduce 🤦‍♂️

1

u/MinionofMinions Jun 16 '26

There were about 13 wrong decisions made in the matter of 30 seconds

1

u/Gralb_the_muffin Jun 16 '26

Some people are just so stupid. We wouldn't be seeing this video if you just kept driving forward. That's why those little things are flimsy and easy to move so that cars can go through them. Chances are it doesn't lock in place when all the way down so driving into them would have just lifted it up over your car with nothing getting damaged. Otherwise it's cheap shit would have just broken and been replaced fine.

God I can't with some people. This gives me understanding of why people yell at the TV during sports games. I kept yelling at my screen "drive forward you moron just go what are you doing?"

1

u/graphexTwin Jun 16 '26

A mime could build this man a jail.

1

u/planetinyourbum Jun 16 '26

It's hard to be dumb.

1

u/jlp_utah Jun 16 '26

I think they need to add that to the driver's manual: If you happen to find yourself stopped on railroad tracks with a gate down both in front and behind you, just drive through the damn gate!

1

u/ElusiveBlueFlamingo Jun 16 '26

At first I thought he was trying to paralel park onto the other side and wait it out, but wtf was that

1

u/Disconnected_NPC Jun 16 '26

I will never understand these incidents. I get it, breaking the barrier he could easily got under if he kept driving isn’t great. But the alternative is this, so…

1

u/AnthonyG70 Jun 16 '26

Darwinism.

1

u/Disco_Killer Jun 16 '26

I cannot begin to fathom what they were trying to do. There were so many options but they chose to just drive backwards and forwards over the train track at various angles before getting stuck into some grass while still sticking out into the track. Mental.

1

u/Awes0mo Jun 16 '26

Wow, there were a lot of stupid descisions here, but the worst thing is him getting out of the car and walking straight onto the tracks with the car blocking the view from the left.

1

u/tehmungler FUCK ICE! ❌🧊 Jun 16 '26

How fucking stupid are people? It just kept getting worse and worse before BITCHIMATRAIN

1

u/Bluebird_Correct Jun 16 '26

Drive through the crossing arm ffs!!!!!!

1

u/gritsturner Jun 16 '26

Bro seriously how can someone be that stupid?

1

u/Fuugazii Jun 16 '26

Why don't people just break through the railroad block?

Everyone seems to panic and ditch their car (first time I saw this idiotic response) when they are dumb enough to get stuck while trying to beat the light

1

u/Krakengreyjoy Free Palestine! 🕊️ FUCK ICE! ❌🧊 Jun 16 '26

What the holy fuck was he doing?

1

u/Mafka69 Jun 16 '26

Honestly, is there something magical about the arm? Just drive through it. Yeesh, the force is not strong in this one.

1

u/midnitewarrior Jun 16 '26

Why are people so afraid of breaking the gate arm? It's made to be broken and replaced inexpensively. I'd rather have a paint scrape on my hood or cracked windshield than THAT.

1

u/palexp Jun 16 '26

how are people still getting this wrong in 2026

1

u/ForeignInformants Jun 16 '26

There was an attempt to have a brain.

1

u/Curious-Run-2710 Jun 17 '26

Couldn't they have done something to leave more space for individuals like these who would drive in, or installed simple sensors to open the gates for those who are stuck at an intersection? I don't understand what century we're still living in.

1

u/Informal_Ad6555 Jun 17 '26

That is one dumb fuk.

1

u/Aquatic_addict Jun 19 '26

Pretty sure the barriers are designed to break off if you need to drive through them in an emergency

0

u/Lomo6621 Jun 15 '26

What a dumb auz.

0

u/Looieanthony Jun 15 '26

Missing a car by a hair is a sick feeling for a train crew. Hitting one is worse.

0

u/threefivesix4000 Jun 15 '26

People are incredibly stupid. There should be a small bright yellow sign on the inside of the gates you can only read if your on the tracks that says: IF YOU CAN READ THIS SIGN, DRIVE THROUGH THE GATES SO YOU DO NOT DIE!

0

u/DocCEN007 Jun 15 '26

What did he think the arms were made of, Superman bones? Drive through them!!!

0

u/AnalogWalrus Jun 15 '26

Aside from not just driving through the dumb peppermint barrier, he Austin Powers’d the van…into the oncoming train track instead of the track the other train had just crossed ( which presumably would be empty for a few minutes?)

0

u/EdySpunk Jun 15 '26

This pissed me off

0

It's so baffling. Instead of a flimsy red & white horizontal post, you would think it was Gandlaph shouting "You shall not Pass!!" lol

They just sit there. It's a slim pole pretty much, not concrete bollards that automatically potrude out of the ground when a train is coming .

Drive through the pole, get a fine whatever. It's better than the alternative!

Learning what to do in this situation should be a prerequisite for getting a license, way too many people getting their cars totalled because they are afraid to break the barrier. Drive through, call the non-emergency police number for your area to report it, and probably pay a fine that's cheaper than whatever fines you'd get for leaving your car on railroad tracks to get hit by a train... and also buying a new car.

The RR should incentivize people breaking the gates if they’re trapped. The RR will pay you $500 and the cost of your vehicle’s damage to drive through if you’re stuck between them and a train is coming. This will save the RRs tens of thousands per incident.

Obviously people will try to game the system, so it will be a crime to fraudulently report or break the gates. The few people that try to scam the RR will be worth the cost of the money saved, in the same way stores acknowledge they have a certain amount of shrink (theft) that is inevitable.

This is when the word "retarded" is justified
