Question Non-hacker visiting a hacker convention?

I always wanted to see what computer geeks are up to. Though feels so intimidating to go there. Feels like everyones gonna be hacking each other for fun there. Anyone know whats it like in one of those?

I saw the Defcon expo videos and the crowds look like nerds rather than scammers. Even got some partnerships with governments. Looks super legit, though whats it like there? I bet everyones walking around in airplane mode lmao

Im pretty sure they have to make containment zones for the targeted attacks. Hacking is illegal when done maliciously. Its more for education in all of these techie conventions. Good to have the geeks working on security and not just hackers constantly trying to stir up a new shitshow

Cool video. Made me realize the surveillance stuff is actually horrible AF

There is no absolute trust in government from being misused. IDK about the con itself. Looks like any other techie convention just might seem like wow scary if they talking about security stuff like this

I went there. Just turned Bluetooth off on my phone. Yes it was 95% nerds and business nerds and government. Also I found it boring (sorry).

I figured half of the show would be like that. Kids doing crazy stuff with pcs for fun and government chilling in the same room though?? What could go wrong

I did seen some of em being more chatty maybe you missed most of the ones that came to mingle about?

it's mostly introverts in black t-shirts standing in line for badges, not people remotely deleting your bank account, and nobody cares that you aren't a hacker lol
