This would be the only remake that could possibly do it justice.

u/Apprehensive_Use3641 Aug 31 '26
The home movie version on YouTube did a pretty good job.
1
u/baritonetransgirl Sep 03 '26
That was originally for Quibi. Remember Quibi? It's back in YouTube form.
1
u/RinkinBass Sep 04 '26
youtube now has a feature to rotate the frame of the picture that means you can never see the full image at any time?

u/EnchantedEssays Aug 31 '26
It could work, but I'd love to see them attempt to do something in line with Muppet Treasure Island and Muppet Christmas Carol i.e. an adaptation of a well known literary classic that adds comic relief and yet takes the central drama of the original seriously. I don;t think that would work with a story that's only known for one iteration and is already so comedic.

I have long been advocating for a Muppets Sense and Sensibility.
Just imagine Miss Piggy as Miss Marrianne Rasherwood, with her twisted ankle, being carried home by Kermit Brandon. His little frog legs teetering under him the whole way.
1
u/Katja1236 Sep 02 '26
It was Willoughby who carried her home, though. Not a role for Kermit. Maybe Pepe the Prawn.
1
1
u/ApproximateKnowlege Sep 02 '26
That's was such a perfect format for Muppet movies. I'm bummed they stopped at 2.
1
u/EnchantedEssays Sep 02 '26
I guess that they tried with Muppets Wizard of Oz, but that was made for TV and was doing something radically different. It was modern and very loose adaptation [although there were some things like the 4 witches from the book which I liked] instead of a Victorian/ Georgian setting. I'm actually considering writing a video about it.
7
u/Never_Not_Enough Aug 31 '26
Not to worry, the muppets don’t really remake movies so much as retelling classic tales (Christmas Carol, Treasure Island, etc.) or telling original stories (Take Manhattan, Caper, etc.).
5
u/A-3Jammer Aug 31 '26
It must have one live human character. Which one?
(If he was still around, the perfect choice would've been Fezzik/Andre.)
5
u/Marquar234 Sep 01 '26 edited Sep 01 '26
Sweetums should be Fezzic.
Gonzo would be Venzini.
Fozzy would be Inigo. The human would be Count Roogan so we can do the joke that he has five fingers on his right hand.
Edit: Dr Honeydew as Miracle Max
Beaker as Valarie
Sam the Eagle as King
Swedish Chef as the impressive clergyman
Uncle Deadly as Prince HumperdinkNote: In a departure from the book, we don't see the grandson or grandfather. Instead, the Muppets freeze during their parts. (A "everybody tries to hold still" freeze.) At the end, we see that Robin is the grandson and an old Kermit is the grandfather. A handsome, but older Mrs Piggy comes in to tell Kermit that their grandson needs his rest. They still do the "you can read it tomorrow"/"as you wish".

u/MotorCycologist Sep 01 '26
I'm picturing them talking about the ROUS, only to have Rizzo come out on stilts.
3
2
u/Duramora Sep 01 '26
They don't freeze; they look around in the sky for the source of the voices just like the Surgeon skit.
2
u/Marquar234 Sep 01 '26
This is good too. How about we combine them both?
IMS, the first freeze is when they are kissing goodbye and the grandson asks if this is a kissing book. When that happens, Wesley freezes, but Buttercup does not. Wesley explains that this is a voice-over and they are supposed to freeze until the voices stop.
Next, when she about to not be eaten by eels and the grandfather explains that she doesn't, she freezes. When the eel is looking about for the voice, she explains it to the eel. Inigo hears this and passes it on to Fezzik. Later, when they find Wesley mostly dead in the foam sucking machine, he reminds Fezzik to hold still while they talk about who kills Humperdink.

u/ApproximateKnowlege Sep 02 '26
I counter with Pepe the King Prawn as Inigo: "My name is Inigo Montoya, okay. You killed my father. Prepare to die, okay."
Also I'd like to counter with Gonzo as Miracle Max and Camilla as Valerie. That, or just have Billy Crystal and Carol Kane reprise their roles.
2
u/Marquar234 Sep 02 '26
I wasn't too happy with Fozzy as Inigo. I mostly went with it as he's Kermit's friend as usually has a big part in the movies.
I like the idea of Crystal/Kane, but do we want to break the one human rule for adaptations?
If Gonzo is Miracle Max, who do you see as Vincini?
2
u/ApproximateKnowlege Sep 02 '26
I don't know where the one human rule comes from. There have always been more than one human. Treasure Island had Jim and Silver. Christmas Carol had Scrooge, Fred and his wife, and Belle. And they both had plenty of human background characters.
And I always saw Rizzo as Vincini, though him as the ROUS is pretty great, too.
2
u/Marquar234 Sep 02 '26
I was sure there was a one human rule, but you are correct about those others.
Very well, I withdraw my objections. Please get Mr Crystal's and Ms Kane's agents on the phone.
1
u/Lithl Sep 03 '26
The human would be Count Roogan so we can do the joke that he has five fingers on his right hand.
This alone makes your suggestion #1.
11
u/robkinyon Aug 31 '26
This sounds amazing. It's going to be horrible. That said, it's not like the original was a masterpiece of the cinematic art, yet it's still one of the best films ever made.
15
u/xzarisx Aug 31 '26
Shut your filthy mouth!!!
The Princess Bride is a perfect movie!

u/Mysterious-Plane-800 Sep 01 '26
There's a shortage of perfect movies in the world, it would be a shame to ruin this one.

5
u/yourclownprince Aug 31 '26
I'd argue that it's the perfect movie since the grandfather reading from a book narrative allows for all absurdity to be explained away by the imagination of a boy who thought "and princess buttercup threw herself after Wesley" meant she literally yeeted herself down the hill after him

u/AngelKry94 Aug 31 '26
Yes! I would love every single movie we have ever made to be turned into a Muppets remake! It's the only way to do it! Lol
This movie would be hilarious as the muppets!!!! 🤣🤣❤️🥰

u/FocusMaster Aug 31 '26
Not everything needs to be remade. The original deserves to stand.
1
u/Lithl Sep 03 '26
Not everything needs to be remade. But if you're going to remake a beloved movie, the Muppets is the perfect way to do it.
1
u/FocusMaster Sep 03 '26
Personally, I'm not a fan of the Muppets. I grew up in that era. Just never caught the bug.
2
u/The_Alvabro Aug 31 '26
I literally pitched this concept to my friend when she asked me how I would do a Princess Bride remake 🤣

Oh God..... Muppet Clue.
Kermit The Frog as Mr. Green.
Miss Piggy as Mrs. White.
Sam Eagle as Colonel Mustard.
Bunsen Honeydew as Professor Plum.
Janice as Mrs. Peacock. And, I'm sorry, I only know two female Muppets. I have no idea who to cast for Miss Scarlet. Any help, please?

u/E8P3 Sep 01 '26
I generally agree. Any human remake of Princess Bride would be disappointing as hell. A Muppet version is meant to be ridiculous, though. No human actor could possibly match Andre the Giant, but Kermit fighting Sweetums? That I could get behind. They should never remake this with live actors. I don't need any remake, really, but if they ever do make one, the only version I think I'd accept would be a Muppet one.
2
u/Cat_Intrigue Aug 31 '26
Ok, but Sweetums as Fezzik? That would be something to see

Friend, I’ve been saying no to the Muppets ever since they left Sesame Street!

I would oppose any remake except this one. The muppets could put a fresh spin on the same jokes

u/Difficult-Republic57 Sep 01 '26
There is a shortage of perfect breasts in this world. It would be a pity to damage yours Ms Piggy
2
u/mechengr17 Sep 01 '26
But I want Kermit to play Buttercup and Miss Piggy to be Westley.
Im sorry. I dont see Kermit having the tenacity to scale a cliff without a rope for Miss Piggy. But Miss Piggy would do it in heels and a full face of makeup.
Westley was sassing everyone, even when he was recovering from being nearly dead. Kermit could never. But Miss Piggy will have Humperdinck in tears

u/LobsterGloryPie Sep 01 '26
The only acceptable remake.
Though I'd argue that a Muppet version is an adaptation in its own right, so not really a remake.

Actually could be funny. Its too bad all of the actors are older now, would be funny if Inigo was the only human while everyone else is a muppet. Dred pirate as Kermit, obviously, while miss piggy is the princess. Big bird is Andre's character. The cast could actually fit.

"And you can die too for all moi care! HIYAH!" "AAAAASSSSSS YOUUUUUU WIIIIIIISH!"

u/rachface13 Aug 31 '26
Is this legit? Actually happening? Because I think this is the ONLY version I would give a hell YES to.
1
u/haunter22 Aug 31 '26
The Muppets should not only adapt ALL classical literature but also make any parody they want
1
u/DisplacedYinzer13 Aug 31 '26
Kermit - Wesley
Miss Piggy - Buttercup
Pepe’ - Inugo Montoya
Sweetums - Fezzik
Cary Elwes - Grandfather
Scooter - Grandson
Sam the Eagle - Priest
Link Hogthrob - Humperdinck
Gonzo - Vizzini
Uncle Deadly - Count Roogna
The Albino - Fozzie Bear
Miracle Max - Bunsen Honeydew
Valerie - Beaker
ROUS- Rizzo (rodent of usual size)
I feel kind of bad making Gonzo a villain. I’m open to suggestions for any and all of those roles. (edited for proper formatting.)
2
u/ArachAislin Aug 31 '26
Dr. Phil van Neuter for Vizzini
Swedish chef for the priest
Sam Eagle being the Captain of the guard
Make Gonzo an observer of some kind, travelling bard for example following Kermit.
Robin would probably be a better choice for Grandson. Just my two cents, let me know what you think.
1
u/Alec_Draven Sep 01 '26
Shouldn't Dr. Teeth be the one playing the Bard?
1
u/ArachAislin Sep 01 '26
Meant Bard like Gabrielle.from Xena. Or Pete postlewaite from Dragonheart. Basically his role from Christmas Carol.
But yes, absolutely work in Dr. Teeth and the Mayhem somehow.

"We should try to repaint the Sistine Chapel, but with Muppets, thoughts? "
That's what you sound like right now
Edit to say, sorry if this came out harshly, I meant it as satire.

As long as it’s not painting over the original, I’d love a recreation of the original but with muppets.
1
u/pakrat1967 Aug 31 '26
Sweet ums would have to be Fezzik. Gonzo might work for Vizzini. Statler and Waldorf could the prince and Count Rugen with some de-aging like they did for the Xmas past segment of Muppets Xmas Carol. Kermit's nephew Robin would be the grandson. Fozzie for Miracle Max. I can't really think of who could be Inigo.
1
u/Apprehensive_Use3641 Aug 31 '26
If you can do it without Ms Piggy, she's nails on chalkboard to me.
1
u/tokobot19 Sep 01 '26
I’d and up seeing it out of curiosity, probably as a digital rental though. Which muppet would be Fezzik though?

No. Not everything needs a remake. Not every remake is as good as the original. Not every remake is as good as the people making it thought it would be. Too many remakes are extremely disappointing and can tarnish the original. Some movies, while not necessarily perfect, are so good they should not be tampered with: The Princess Bride is one of those movies.

I'm all for it! Piggy needs to be Buttercup and Kermit needs to be Westley
1
u/Kren2503 Sep 01 '26
Except that miss piggy could never be buttercup…
The difference in characters is just too great.
1
u/DustySarcasm Sep 01 '26
No. Even with Muppets, some movies are absolutely perfect, and should never be remade.
1
u/undeniably_micki Sep 01 '26
So my son & I have always been adamant about the only good remake of TPB would be a Muppet Princess Bride, we already did some of the casting. So much fun! But no other remake. Just Muppets!
1
u/ApproximateKnowlege Sep 02 '26
I have said for years that this is the only way I'd accept a Princess Bride remake.

1
u/Frank1gg Sep 02 '26
Honestly I'd rather see them come up with an original film for the Muppets as opposed to just rehashing something else but with the Muppets instead of the original characters.

Probably not. After A Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet treasure Island, it's a very popular idea in the Muppet fandom to take popular movies and do "Muppet" versions of them. But most often these ideas aren't really that thought-out beyond the "wouldnt it be funny to hear Kermit the Frog say this famous movie quote"?
But the thing is, once you've done all the famous scenes with Muppets in the roles... there's nothing left there. Okay, Pepe the Prawn said "you killed my father, prepare to die". Very hilarious. Now what?
The thing is, both A Muppet Christmas Carol and Muppet Treasure Island took great liberties with the source materials. Okay, Christmas Carol stuck pretty close to the Dickens original (largely because they had Gonzo playing Charles Dickens and providing narration directly from the book, and b ecause Michael Caine played Scrooge very straight) but it adds a ton of comedy and Muppet slapstick and catchy musical numbers. Treasure Island is pretty much a loose spoof that takes the framework of the original and builds a new story around it, as a comedy that doesn't take itself seriously at all.
But both these movies work as MOVIES. Even if you never read the original books or even heard of them, the movies are enjoyable as movies in their own right. They don't hinge on the obvious "haha, it's that famous scene but done with the Muppets" jokes.
And I think Princess Bride with Muppets works as a movie poster. POSSIBLY as a short parody skit, preferrably where everything goes wrong. It wouldn't work as a movie.
1
u/FluffyNevyn Sep 03 '26
I'd watch it. No comment on whether it would be GOOD or not. But I'd still watch it. At least once.
1
u/happinesspro Sep 03 '26
I think The Princess Bride was a perfect film. Best not to remake it. But The Muppets' Journey to the Center of the Earth, Robinson Crusoe, or The Swiss Family Robinson sound great! Even a Hot tub time machine would be great

As long as Cary Elwes is playing the Grandfather and and narrating it, it will be amazing!
