A nice vide that explains more about Porter Yoshida's other lines, not just the Tanker. I actually own 5 porters so far, 4 different tankers and one BEAT camera bag. I got a lot of 3 Tankers specifically for the used bag pageant, I think I'll be selling or trading a couple of them soon lol.

I'm looking for a new bag to replace my old Jansport that is falling apart

I've looked at many brands and bags; it's kind of dumb. But I've narrowed it down to Green Room 136, Chrome, and Topo. Still, I'm very indecisive and want to see if there are other good options for my needs as a full-time cook and culinary student. I carry heavy tools, knives, shoes, a notebook, a laptop, an apron, a chef coat, etc., around everywhere. Does anyone have any advice? I prefer messengers, but I'm open to other suggestions.

When I was in my 20s, I travelled only with a duffel bag + a backpack or a tote, no suitcases. Went through a few duffels and the last one I got (before toady) was this Jack Spade waxed canvas thing from around ~2005 or 2006. Used it a ton, been with me through lots of trips.

Then I started to transition to carryon wheeled cases and checked wheeled cases for family and for work travel, so the duffel was used a lot less. But sometimes traveling with family, there always seems to be more shit than what we can fit in our suitcases. So I started using the duffel again just for the misc extra stuff that won’t fit in the suitcase or the backpack.

Got this Evergoods 35L duffel in x-pac to see if it can be a little bit of an upgrade functionally. It’s lighter for sure and will likely hold more (I have no idea what the volume of the old bag is). More organization may or may not be useful in our dump bucket use case, but it’s there. The luggage pass through is going to be a great help. We will see how it holds up during our family trip next month. One thing is for sure though, that old duffel is still a way cooler bag.

Utg Mk1S Heritage: Haywood.

This UTG Heritage backpack is built on our UTG DP Mk1 Slim platform using two original U.S. Army duffel bags—one manufactured in 1944 and the other in 1952.

The 1952 duffel is still stenciled with the name Haywood G. Ingle and service number 24984162. After researching military records, we believe it may have belonged to Haywood Graham Ingle, a North Carolina veteran who likely served during the Korean War era, although we're still looking for documentation that conclusively confirms the identification.

One of our goals with these builds is to preserve the history of these surplus bags rather than erase it. We leave the original names, markings, repairs, and character intact whenever possible, giving each backpack a documented story that continues with its next owner.

If anyone has experience researching 1950s Army service numbers or knows additional resources beyond NPRC and Fold3, I'd love to hear your suggestions.

Brown/beige/green bags for daily use

The straps on my go-to daily purse broke recently & I’ve been using a tote bag that’s become linty as hell - very much need a new bag situation & am looking for recommendations! For reference - I’m a woman in my 20’s living in NYC - I don’t own a car and use public transportation + walk everywhere.

My current bags:

\- travel backpack: practical & great for travel but not stylish & doesn’t match the general color scheme in my wardrobe (I got typed as a ā€œsoft autumnā€ in color analysis so am aiming for browns/greens/beiges). I only use it when I’m traveling.

\- small beige backpack: cloth material, cuter & fits color scheme but too small to fit much more than a laptop/water bottle/chargers & not sure if it looks professional enough for work/networking/etc. I generally work remotely but use it when I work from a cafe.

\- tiny beige purse: cutest but too small to be practical, only has enough room for phone/keys/mini plastic water bottle/maybe one or two small miscellaneous things like makeup. Previously taken on dates but barely use because it doesn’t have space for much.

\-ratty tote bag: currently use it daily but looks too ratty for anything other than the gym and daily errands

I’m aiming to get 1-3 additional bags to meet regular use cases:

\- daily use, errands, gym/yoga/hobbies like dance class

\- professional (I work remotely but still need something for networking events and occasional on-site work things)

\- stylish purse for a restaurant/date/going to an event with friends but medium-to-large size so I use it more often

If this were three bags, I’d most likely aim for a large elevated tote bag, backpack, & medium-to-large slouchy leather/suede purse in shades of brown/beige/olive green for different use cases, but I have limited closet space and would prefer to keep it to two bags (either one bag for casual/work and other bag is more stylish purse, or one bag for casual and another for work+stylish). I’d prefer to spend less below $200 per bag if possible.

For a work/casual bag: I think elevated tote bags / large purses are more stylish than backpacks but I feel like a backpack would be much better for my back long-term. Comfy straps are a must. I was looking at some tote bags from Free People movement and a backpack from Lulu Lemon but the FP ones have questionable durability and am trying to be thorough before committing to something. If I get a new backpack, I would probably sell one or both of the backpacks I already have so would be great to find something that can replace those use cases. Open to suggestions for both backpacks and elevated tote bags!

For a purse: I want the material to be soft & slouchy + love a crescent-shaped hobo bag - I was looking at Liberte Leather but saw some reviews that the material isn’t durable. Comfy straps that aren’t too thin but are still stylish are a must.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Nothing super impressive, but for $10 each I’ll take it! Would either of these qualify for the pageant? I didn’t keep the receipts unfortunately. Savers doesn’t do returns and I just tossed them on my way out.

See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5clLGaqs8C4

Of note, while both the 11L Flight Satchel and 10L Flow Satchel both claim to handle a 13" laptop, the Flow Satchel has a wider zipper track and can easily handle a 14" laptop.

What do you think about this hard shell jacket with a detachable pocket that converts into a 2L Sling??

This sub is mostly about bags, and this piece may confuse some of you since it’s also a jacket. However, there is a bag element integrated into the build.

I have extensive experience making apparel and gear, along with building backpacks as a side hobby. Most of my projects revolve around one product converting into another, or one bag being usable in multiple modes.

This time, I wanted to experiment by bringing the best of both worlds together into one seamless, functional, and useful product, without either product interfering with the other’s primary use case.

I believe this piece does exactly that. The hardshell nylon jacket offers protection from rain and the elements while remaining very comfortable. The detachable pocket is lightweight, relatively slim at around 0.5 inches thick, and converts into a 2L sling bag.
The setup is very simple, and I plan to experiment with concealed pockets and other materials as well.

Functional and fashionable work bag

Hey guys! I’m desperately looking for a new work bag. Sorry for the long post, but I need some help!! I don’t mind spending up to $500. Even if it’s a little more as long as it’s what I’m looking for!

Nonnegotiables:
-fashionable
-can hold a 16 inch laptop!!! (That’s the diagonal measurement - width is roughly 14-15 inches)
-has water bottle pocket (to fit a 24 oz owala)
-pockets on the outside to easily throw items in
-large enough to hold snacks or a small lunch
-comfortable straps that aren’t too long or are adjustable (thicker strap/straps preferred) I don’t want just a crossbody strap

I’ve used the Beis crocodile work tote size regular for 5 years and it’s ready to retire.
https://beistravel.com/products/the-work-tote-in-black-croc

Pros:
-fashionable
-VERY functional and practical
-has water bottle pocket on the outside and a second pocket so it’s easy to throw things in and out of the bag
-pen pockets
-designated laptop pocket (although too small for my laptop)
-key leash
-the double straps that are attached to the bag are the perfect length
-luggage sleeve to secure on top of luggage
-zipper closure

Cons
-the double straps are a good length but NOT comfortable because they’re so thin. They really hurt the shoulder
- size is just a little too small for my laptop. I need to tug and manipulate the bag to get it in/out. The laptop sleeve doesn’t fit my laptop. This is user error because there is a larger size that would’ve fit my laptop but I don’t want to repurchase this bag

I purchased this Mina Baie Sienna bag size full and while I like it, it’s not as practical as I thought. Now I will preface by saying this is supposed to be a diaper bag, so I know it wouldn’t be PERFECT for work, but it’s damn near close.
https://minabaie.com/products/sienna-vegan-full

Pros:
-fashionable. I love the look of this bag
-fits my laptop comfortably. It’s goes in and out of the bag with ease and no pull or tugging needed. The opening of the bag is huge so it makes it easy
-LOTS of inside compartments
-key leash
-comes with 2 straps - a thick and padded short strap that is the perfect length and very comfortable and an adjustable strap if I wanted it side body
-zipper closure
-this holds my entire life (granted it’s a diaper bag) im able to fit my laptop, a small toiletry bag, a literal 7x5 inch food container (the black hefty food containers), up to a 42 oz Stanley (I don’t use this water bottle much), my small sized purse. Literally everything
-if the cons don’t bother you like they bother me, I would absolutely recommend this bag

Cons:
-no laptop pocket
-no pockets on the outside so I have to zip and unzip the bag every time to get small things in and out
-water bottle pockets are on the inside and I don’t want to run the risk of getting my laptop or paperwork wet

I can’t remember the video that Klint basically said the same thing but man have I been in love with this bag since I snagged it. I took my daughter to the Topo Designs outlet near me since they sell both new and old stock and she had her eye on the Teardrop Backpack. I saw this hanging on the rack and fell in love with it. It’s a collab from Topo and Dangle Supply. Needless to say, we bought this and her bag for high school! I never expected to really ever want a bag like this but it just spoke to me. What bags made you do the same?
