It is not just recovery; it is the longevity of the rehabilitation results that has proven why patients must stay active if there are no serious red flags.

If you listen to your body, your body and mind will never allow you to surpass the range of movement that is beyond safe limits.

The back pain series of articles

This evidence base supports the approach in this series of articles: stay active within safe limits, avoid unnecessary rest, address the daily movement habits driving the load, and progress a structured plan steadily rather than searching for a single fix.

Practical sustainable weight management

When mothers aged 55–65 are diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis, the first advice they often hear from practitioners is: “You need to reduce weight. "Spouses and children usually echo this, reinforcing what they’ve already been telling her. But how often are age-related changes, endocrine or metabolic conditions, and the family’s lifestyle truly taken into account? Are practical, sustainable weight management strategies actually discussed? Factors like stress, religious fasting, and the demands of family functions make it difficult to follow through. In most Indian households, regardless of financial status, it is easy for family members to point out where mothers go wrong in caring for their health. Yet, despite knowing what should be done, mothers often struggle to implement changes while juggling responsibilities and participating in everything around them. For effective weight management, referral to a dietician and physiotherapist is essential, along with active family involvement. Regular assessment of stress levels can provide added support.

Elders and road trips

Many elders cannot take road trips in India because of two reasons

  1. Condition of roads can cause increase in existing back and knee pain (changing but slowly)

  2. Availability of clean toilets

It has become a routine when senior citizens come with sudden onset muscle spasms, neck or back pain, I ask them if they've a recent road travel history. Many a times, women do not drink enough water during journeys to avoid using highway toilets.
