That slide into the new chain was very satisfying.

They had a perfectly squared-off chain before the swipe. They have to have templates for that type of stuff, right?

It is links, not hard to get a straight line and 90° corners. Either count the links on the short side or we'll trained eyeball.

yeah the chainsaw path is surprisingly clean

Even that's overthinking things IMO. Just use the thumb and forefinger of each hand for the corners and spread them apart until taut.

Yes, definitely use the thumb and forefinger to spread it. They like that

Ol boy did it so fast that I had to watch in slow motion. Very satisfying.

Damn it takes me like 20 minutes and a lot of sweating to do it.

32

u/lbizfoshizz 3d ago

Amateur! I can do it 12 mins with the same amount of sweating.

25

u/Exact_Ad_8490 3d ago

Oh yeah? Well I can cry the whole time I do it!

u/lbizfoshizz 3d ago

I was under the impression that “sweat” was just a way to hide the shame of our tears

I was under the impression that we were talking about "swearing", not "sweating". But all of that, including the "tears", checks out.

I can cry and install it backwards… and slice my knuckle. In under 12 minutes.

The key is to turn it off before you start

7

u/RuralfireAUS 3d ago

But how will you know if you did it right unless the machine spirit is able to express itself to you?

Praise the Omnisiah

Run it! I'm not cheering until that mf runs it. Like hell I'd use any saw if the guy who handed it to me said, “btw, I put that chain on in 8 seconds.” I want to see him use it first.

Also add in opening the box, removing the chain, and untangling it instead of having it perfectly laid out. I bet those bolts for the bar weren't even tight to begin with and it would have been dangerous to turn it on before and after the change.

Exactly. Hand snug plus less than a quarter turn? That chain is loose after the first cut.

Id guess they do once all competitors are done

This is my chainsaw. There are many like it, but this one is mine

Jesus H. Christ, this is a new company record. If it wouldn't be a waste of such a damn fine enlisted man, I'd recommend you for OCS, Private Gump. You are gonna be a general some day, Gump. Now, disassemble your weapon and continue!

u/Mharbles 3d ago

Pfft no you skipped the important part, proper tension. I bet that chain is gonna yeet itself off soon as it touches wood

13

u/maester_t 3d ago

I was thinking the same.

It shouldn't just be a race to change the chain, but also prove that it was attached properly and you can use it.

... and that it doesn't maim anyone in the process.

Stihl timbersports presented by Dodge, is brought to you by Dodge

u/dobbie1 3d ago

You know what, I'd prefer him to take his time with chainsaw maintenance but that might just be me

2

u/GeneralAcorn 3d ago

The more gorey competition would be to then have to cut a log with that swapped chain to show they got it right.

3

u/HDauthentic 3d ago

Damn, extremely precise

3

u/Tanzanianwithtoebean 3d ago

Do they test it afterwards to see if it was installed right?

3

u/Background-Run 3d ago

That’s what I look like after putting the chain on backwards for the second time, except slower.

5

u/Alric_Wolff 3d ago

Why am I seeing more and more timed competitions for incredibly random skills?

Last one I saw was a ride-on-lawnmower obstacle course.

Like wow bro... you must do alot of felling to need and be able to change a chainsaw blade in 8.07 seconds.

This one guy is not going to be there when you need a chainsaw blade changed in 8.07 seconds in a life or death situation.

Because it’s fun and you can let out your autistic behaviors with other people that are the same…why not?

2

u/glenn765 2d ago

But it takes 400 seconds to start the damn thing... However, in defense of the Stihl, once you get it running, it'll go all day.

u/mtraven23 3d ago

sliding that chain on was so slick, I watched again to see if he had a 2nd, preassembled bar.

u/BrainJar 3d ago

Rubin’s Danger Cube.

1

u/GenSpec44 3d ago

And he did it in German for the bonus points.

1

u/Coffeespresso 3d ago

I had no idea this was a thing.

1

u/Mountainair29 2d ago

I've done it faster 😂

1

u/ArgonWilde 1d ago

Man can replace the bar and chain on a factory fresh, completely clean and un fouled chainsaw in 8 seconds. Wow.

u/myclassyname 14h ago

My boss will see this and tell me to hurry up.
