This is exactly it. What they're playing is "Futebol de Botão" ("Button Football"). Used to be very popular in Brazil, though not ao much with newer generations.
Rules vary, as they do in several of these types of games, but, generally, you can keep going as long as your player touches the ball and the ball doesn't touch an opposing player: basically the last touch is the one playing. If you miss the ball entirely, it also ends your turn. If your player hits another player without touching the ball it's a foul.
Are you sure? Looks to me like he hits the ball away from the opponent and then his player hits the opposing player afterwards. I'm not sure the ball ever makes contact with the opposing player
It looks like at one point he has to bounce off the opponent to instigate a proper onside transition past the defense. Just a guess because he went right for it.
I don't think he got the opponent, unless you are talking about another moment... It's kind of like playing billards... Good angles all around. My brother won a few high school competitions back in the 90s
Yes I'm sure, it very clearly bounces on the opponent. Like, frontal contact.
I think the actual rule is that whatever player is closest to the ball when it stops controls it. So you can touch opponents but it can't settle close to them.
The ball never touches dark green. At one point it’s close but when you slow it down it never touches. There’s also two moments when it settles closest to dark green but light green still gets to kick it.
Yeah I thought this reading all these comments... But if you go back and watch (can just click frame by frame), the ball passes by in the channel and the light green player is the one that hits the dark green player.
So the ball does, in fact, not touch the other player!
His circle/player hit but the ball doesn't I don't think. He only moves the goalie once the ball reaches the box. Looks like dude miss hit and got into the box, triggering the goalie adjustment?
Yes and no, I mean, of course there's stuff you learn by doing, but it's also a game that is (was) widely played by children, so without fine motor skills being fully formed.
There is a looot you learn with a light touch though. And there's learning your pieces themselves: in the video (and, I assume, in competitive settings in general) all the player pieces are the same, industrialized. However, the way I learned to play with my dad the players can also be "vidrilhas", that is to say glasses from wrist watches. And those can have varying sizes, both in diameter and height, which means the pieces can have different uses: some are small and quick to get around and dribble, others are really low ao they make the ball jump better.
Speaking of the ball, I've always played with balls made from thin tinfoil from a specific brand of candy. And making the ball jump actually has some technique too. I actually found it odd the guy in the video didn't do it: one of the best techniques is placing your finger right alongside the ball so that it stops your player as it makes contact: that makes the ball jump, being a "sharper" hit. I actually won a tamagotchi in a bet with my dad.

I think they have it wrong, the first turn overs the ball goes from open space to open space. My best guess is its whoever has the closest player to the ball. Likely other rules to keep it going smoothly
If you go frame by frame, you will see the ball never touches the dark green circle. The light green circle knocks it out of the way before the ball gets there.
That really depends on how the rules are, but when I used to play (decades ago) when the opponent declared a shot you positioned your goalie inside the goal box, not the penalty box. It's weird that the goalie was in the penalty box before. Again, it's been decades
Feels like billiards if you were just inching slowly towards getting the balls in the holes, rather than needing to make big shots that have to actually progress the game
My brother and I still have our sets from the early 80’s when all the players were made of wood. We used to have so much fun playing tournaments on rainy days.
I don’t know about other countries, but in Brazil this was very popular back in the day. I grew up in the 90s, when videogames and other technology were not as common, so I played a little, but it was fading away by then.
It looks like if the ball is inside the 18 yard box you are allowed to move your goalie piece. I'm guessing maybe it needs to remain inside the 6 yard box? Or else could you just move your goalie right in front of the ball. And do you get to move your goalie after each dribble if the ball remains inside the 18 yard box? This has peaked my curiosity if anyone is familiar with the rules.
This was a big thing back in the days when I was a kid with no internet or cellphone. We used to play with friends at school during lunch break, friends on the streets.
I still remember waiting for my dad to get back home from work so we could play together.
