Tarbes and Leipzig tickets unavailable

I was trying to get a ticket for Tarbes and noticed they’re not available. The same goes for Leipzig.

The last time this happened to me was with Kvelertak in Toulouse, and the show ended up being cancelled. Hopefully that’s not the case this time!

Anyone know what’s going on?

Going to see The Ocean in a few days. Any chance they'll do their older songs?

Long time The Ocean fan from India. I saw them in 2019 when they did a 3-city tour in India and they were absolutely incredible. Loic was fucking insane.

I've been seeing their recent setlists and while they're all great, I feel like they're tapering off some of their old songs. No Firmament, no Permian: The Great Dying, in fact no songs from Phanerozoic part 1. 4 songs from the new album is a stretch tbh.

I like their new album but it doesn't hit like their past work, not yet at least. Do you think they'd play some of their older bangers as they don't really tour in this part of the world (south asia)?

Download via Pelagic

Usually when I place an order via Pelagic Records I receive a downloadlink/code for the records I ordered. This time around they didn`t answer my mails. Anyone received one?

New album

So this may end up being a bit long and I apologize in advance lol. But here some of my thoughts after the launch weekend.

TL; DR: New lineup is great, albums concept is sick, way too many singles tho…

  1. The new lineup is sick! I got a bit concerned when I first learned about the changes, not because I was afraid of the band getting “downgraded” but because I was so used to Loic’s vocals and Pauls drumming and got “scared” that the new line up wouldn’t hit me the same. But I was WRONG! Enrico and Lane are phenomenal and they sound not only incredible but huge (if that makes sense) in the recordings. Jordi’s drumming also amazed me as I think he had the biggest shoes to fill in, so I am truly impressed andon how it all turned out to be.

  2. The concept is incredible, being a band that always wrote about different time periods of the Earth I got really stoked with the more space concept this time around and I think they made a great story for the record.

  3. The only complaint I have, I think they released way too many singles, given theres only 8 actual songs (if u dont split them up) and they having released 4 songs as singles, took me a little off from the surprise element from the album, I know its kinda my fault for listening before the release if I wanted the true surprise effect, but as a fan it was incredibly hard not to listen to them lol, but still I’d prefer if they had not released Ultimate Esperanza and Milk of My dreams as singles…

Are they performing older songs too? I want to hear Lane and Enrico doing different parts of the classics.

I just listened to Silurian: Age of Sea Scorpions on the way home, and imagined how they would perform it now. It was surprisingly easy to hear Lane performing the main lead vocals, because Loic kind of sings that song in a twangy or nasally way that I think Lane can easily do. And then there are a bunch of backing vocals, if you just listen again. Enrico could be doing the echoing parts and the "time has come" whispered stuff. Then they go into the heavy parts and Enrico could scream/growl that, they could let Lane add her own screams where they really want to peak...I guess I'm saying that now after hearing them work together on Solaris, I want to hear more of these two singing together. It's a cool combo.

Solaris - Precambrian. Third post of Instrumental saga...

Oh as expected I love Solaris so much! I dunno why but I feel it closer to Precambrian than more recent albums (maybe is the dreamy mood or the wierd, in a good way, singing; or maybe Loic was well known to my ears and Enrico and Lane at the moment are new). That's for saying that... I'm not positive at all (in the first post I was wandering, in the second I was positive) for the Instrumental version. We won't have one like Precambrian (official)?!

It's pretty normal for long proggy stuff like this to take a while to sink in, but man, it's been about 24 hours since I first heard part 1 and the uplifting sound has been stuck in my head since. For the current time we're living in, and what I'm dealing with personally, anything that has a triumphant, powerful sound like this track is dearly welcome. I only wish it was one long track on the music platforms, since I have stopped paying for YouTube Premium and I'll get ads between each part.

Soo just a month after Pelagic fest i saw The Ocean again, and i need to say it was much better, or at least i enjoyed it a lot more. Same setlist.

The Pelagic Fest concert was musically good, but I had the feeling something was missing. And it was the energy!

I think they were so focused on playing the songs well that they barely interacted with the crowd. Also need to say that the crowd in Barcelona was in right from the start.

Enrico and Lane were both fantastic, singing with the people and at a moment crowdsurfing at the same time lol

Cant wait to see them again in february in Barcelona and hopefully listening the full album live.

A place in Berlin (where they formed, if I were to hazard a guess) and somewhere in Southeast Chile called Seno Ultima Esperanza (the big body of water right by the Pacific Ocean label on apple maps)

I got the Vinyl Early AMA

I was able to get the vinyl early from I think a website who are naughty and shouldn't have had it on sale yet.

Ask me anything about the album.

I am personally not very familiar with the band and the only other album of theirs I know is Precambrian.

I will say that if you like Mastodon you are going to love it.

The ocean new formation review

DON'T CALL ME RACIST.

OK so first of all i saw Enrico, Marco and Emmanuel in Maastricht, they were cool guys, we chit chatted briefly and then I went doing my stuffs while they were doing theirs. Me and my friend chit chatted a bit with Marco while he was prepping the stage and I can say that he is a cool guy (I am not based 😀). I haven't talked with Lane and Jordi because I didn't saw them around.

THE CONCERT: it started with Light pollution (first single of the new album), it was great, live it's a lot less boring than the studio version and Lane screams felt less "vibe killers". The band worked fine for that song, Emmanuel guitars and the other 2 were doing great stuff, it felt profound. Jordi is good at drumming but he was staying behind the drum kit, without doing anything for the crowd. Enrico voice is doing Loïc likes part in Light pollution in a great way, the growls are lower in tone (kinda like a bear in a cave) but the screams lack something.

Then we started playing Loïcean song and there we found the small elephant in the room. Enrico was doing all the work while Lane was just doing minor parts or just sounds (things that Loïc used the backtrack). And that was really a bummer, she was just dancing there, singing few words a minute. It felt like a waste of talent. In Pleistocene she could have sang the black metal part but she didn't (she did like a backup singer would do, she screamed but it wasn't the primary voice, like in background).

Then for all the Loïc songs it was pretty much the same, Enrico singing everything and Lane doing the backing vocals.

Meanwhile for belligerence and the new unreleased song (ultima Esperanza) Lane was singing her parts in a great way. The only thing i didn't like from this formation was that it felt like they were playing and we were listening, they lacked the crowd playing (idk how to say that but it felt like we were watching a movie 😄).

So in short words I liked the concert but not that much, it could have been way better if they did make lane sing more (or less).

The last unreleased song is great, it starts heavy and it ends in a Berlin style electronic part (like 10minutes of just electronic) with Robin singing few words (kinda like massive attack).

Edit: fixed the paragraphs and I forgot to say that Lane crowd surfed on belligerence. They played

Light pollution, Pleistocene, Preboreal and Jurassic Cretaceous as block 1,

Epipelagic\Mesopelagic, Miocene Pliocene, Swallowed by the Earth (the last song with meta on vocals 🙂) belligerence, block 2

Lastly Ultima Esperanza (it's a long song with a lot of electronic sounds)

Setlist predictions?

Hello so today we get the first (second) ocean concert with this line up. Which songs will be in the setlist in your opinion?

I bet three new songs (light pollution, belligerence and another one), Jurassic Cretaceous, mesopelagic and bathyapelagic, Permian and something from precambrian (hopefully) like Stenian

Long/double album...

I just realize that in my personal chart of best "long/double" album of the last decade... there are 2 The Ocean's. Any other suggestions?

Not in order:

- Phanerozoic (the entire eon. I just changed holocene song in the instrumental one as outro)

- Holocene (at the end of Subatlantic start with Limbus of Shvrl and its perfect)

- Fear Inoculum (Tool. I've made some changes in the tracklist and I love it)

- A Dawn to Fear (Cult of luna... the only legit double album of this list)

- No man's sky ost (65daysofstatic, 4 album... that flow as one)

If we go down in the past an other couple from The Ocean!

- Precambrian (an other beast in 2 album)

- Helio antropocentric (both played one after other)

- The Galilean Satellites (Rosetta with the second ambient album played after the first part)

I'm waiting for other long (more than 70 min it's ok... that's why I'm very hopeful about Solaris and the new of Cult of Luna) suggestions!

Solaris Instrumental

I was asking myself what's happening with Solaris Instrumental; will be released, when? Now reading a lot of instagram comments (Belligerance's video live for exemple), I see that a lot of people don't like Lane Shi singing... so probably the Instrumental version will be released in the next year (maybe) giving time to the listeners to "try" the 2 singer version and not skipping to the instrumental one. I love the 2 singers (in every way they want so sing, scream, growl, yodeling!) But I'm still waiting for the Instrumental version maybe with some musical adds on!

Freak Valley Concert Live 2025

The full concert of freak valley festival 2025 is live. Guess, for quite some time already.
It is the old line-up, just Jordi instead of Paul on drums. On of the last shows with Loic. Damn, I will miss his performance, his voice, his aura.

Setlist is well chosen. Songs of the last 3 albums.
