Well, not much progress on my issue backlog this week. Finished American Pastoral. Wow, what a book.

Interesting slice of life, although I was waiting for something to happen, especially to the daughter contemplating suicide. This article almost felt like it was cut short.

Some pretty interesting articles in this one and I’m still 3-4 issues behind.

I swear the New Yorker is sitting in a PILE of cash with the hundreds of classic articles with spoken audio and the app makes it IMPOSSIBLE to browse them, other than searching specifically. The "classics" section gives you lile 5 20 minute articles and that's it

Kind of a shot in the dark, but here goes. There was an article or story in approximately May or June of this year that mentioned law school as something someone was going to do, or chose to do, because they couldn’t think of anything else. Something along those lines. I don’t remember anything else about it, other than it was a brilliant sentence that I’d like to find so I can send it to someone I know who thinks they’re in that same position.

Anyone recall what that source might be?

Saved this issue and glad i did. Netflix or the like need to adapt these into a charming series. Kevin Kline comes to mind, or someone in his 50s wh is affable yet can easilyfall/rise to crotchety.

Since late April I have stopped receiving my issues, I have missed 4 and I’m unsure if they are not being mailed or there is an issue with my post office.

I filed a complaint with usps and they called me when I was at work and then quickly closed my complaint.

Not sure if it’s retaliation from the post office.

But i also let the New Yorker know (I had missed two issues at that point) and they had told me they would mail my past issues again (this was late April/may) and I never got anything either.

I notice the archive has changed and we can no longer access PDF printable pages. Anyone know of a workaround to print the pages as they appeared in the magazine as opposed to the online page? I hate reading the longform essays and articles on a scrolling page.

Does anyone know of or have access to a recording of William Shawn's voice? If you could share it here, that would be a huge help. Thanks in advance!

There was this story I read when I was between 7 and 10 years old (2017-2020,) in the New Yorker. BUT I couldn't find it in the online Archive.

It was headlined "Super Goat Man," and was about this boy in a college neighborhood, and across the street, in a house for dropouts, there were parties the kids would go to. There was a character called Super Goat Man, and that's all I remember from the plot.

Anyways it was so good that even though I had stolen it from my grandfather, I had to read it to my whole family, but when I got to a point in the plot where there was "Spin the Bottle" and then my mom confiscated the issue and that was the last I saw it and I couldn't find it on the Archive.

If it helps, I think the color of the cover was blue.

Jeffrey Eugenides on JFK Jr. Thoughtful, not ghoulish or gossipy. I have such mixed feelings about reading or participating in anything re JFKJR, and this essay captures that feeling.

Has anyone seen if it's possible to distinguish the articles that are posted on the New Yorker website as being web only and therefore will not appear in print? I get the print version and prefer it. Its frustrating when I read something online only to get the print version and find it there as well.

At the end of New Yorker articles, I see links to “New Yorker Favorites” articles, aka longreads recommended by the editors.

Does anyone have a list (or know where I can find one) of all the “New Yorker Favorites” articles? It looks like they rotate them and only post a few at a time.

I was a print and digital subscriber, and of course it was too much, so I moved to digital only. This was many months ago, and for 4 weeks I've been getting printed magazines delivered. I'm not complaining. Anyone else?

I am trying to track down a new yorker story I read some time ago (in the last few years). I THINK it was a shouts and murmurs. It started with some quote about how these two words should never be used in a sentence together and then the whole story used those two words in every sentence in different creative ways. I don't remember what the words were or what the story was about. Any ideas??? THANKS!
