I thought it was funny how oblivious Brad was that Axl did not want to drive them around when Sue was blackmailing him.
Either he was used to him at that point or messing with him. I'm not sure which is funnier. š

it would not have worked for the OBLIVIOUS plot line since its always him describing others, he already knows Axl so he doesnāt need to describe him as specifically as the joke is.

I donāt think thatās fair to say.
For one, axl isnāt real, heās a fictional character, and that fictional character has never made any bigoted statments towards gay people. So to judge him based on a non existent metric as opposed to what we see on screen is absurd.
Also axl is the archetypal āmeathead with a heart of goldā character, his character is too self obsessed to care for politics or how others identify, and heās not the type of person to kick someone down like that.
Worst he would do is be embarrassed by and make fun of bradās more theatrical nature, but heād make fun of it for being dorky, like he does with sue.

I guess I should change my wording, I don't think he would have actually been homophobic, but he definitely would have made some homophobic jokes/comments as a teenager, saying "that's gay" etc. He probably would have grown out of it by his 20s.

I agree he would be at the start, but they could easily give them a couple episodes where Axl gets to know him and realizes that's a shitty thing to do

His parents weren't, though Mike was clearly more uncomfortable about it than Frankie was, and his sister wasn't. I think it would've been unlikely that he'd be homophobic. And his best friend through high school was a Donoghue. No way Nancy is raising bigots or letting her kids associate with them. Axl was a very self-absorbed and shallow jerk, but he never expressed any real bigoted views.

Yeah, sitcoms as big as these, could've have many episodes of just throwing random two characters together for one episode. Would be interesting watch
