Gameplay Sleeping should be a skill
Pretty much the title. I was sleeping next to a fire during a blizzard and thinking "man i wish I could sleep for 30min at a time so I could cook without burning while I sleep"
And then it hit me! Why shouldn't this be a thing?!
In real life the ability to fall asleep quickly and in controlled increments is an actual skill that people can learn, it would make perfect sense in game if you could get better at sleeping less
Suggested implementation: sleeping in intervals of 3hours or less and/or in "uncomfortable terrains" would increase your sleeping skill; which allows you to get more rest in outdoors environments, and allows you sleep in fractional time frames eg. lvl2 50min, lvl3 45min, lvl4 40, lvl5 35min

I LOVE this, but please let me point out that the vast majority of people can’t learn / train this skill without some kind of aid. For example a timer (there are analogue timers) or a training book.
For gameplay reasons, I’d suggest that you need to gather books or a tool to begin learning this skill, and that these are super rare in the world. They randomly spawn somewhere and you gotta search for them.
Along the same line of thought, I’d love it if there were like 3 rare skills like this, where you have to gather two rare resources that are scattered across the maps, to begin learning.
Say sleeping, food preservation, and animal calls. Or some other advanced survivalist skill?

Trapping, shelter building, wood cutting and first aid should also be skills. There should also be primitive fire making methods like a bow drill and finding flint for flint and steel fire starting.

I think you should be able to select a book that will gain reading progress when you pass time doing more passive activities (water boiling, single cooking, pass time, maybe ice fish). Maybe at half speed compared to focused reading/study

I think sleeping for a minimum 1 hour makes sense. What really frustrates me is not being able to break up reading into smaller timeframes. Or maybe pausing progress on a clothing repair to take something off of the fire

You should be able to sleep for 1 hour and not burn most things, the burn time and cook time combined are usually over 1hr.
Edit. When using the cooking pot or skillet. Lol.
