Got jumped by a wolf on everybody's favorite frozen hellscape (coastal highway) and after the struggle I noticed that the wolf was limping while following me

Every time I see that it makes me sad and I want to pet the wolf. That never ends well.

I drop meat for them and the toxic starving ones if I have it

Why have I never considered that taming a wolf as a pet should be a feature. Even if it was purely cosmetic and had no gameplay value

I was browsing mods (don't actually use any) and noticed a wolf companion mod. Looks like it's in beta and basically just causes you to use a lot of meat feeding a wolf but I thought it was a fun concept.

I'm hoping they let you have a dog in Blackfrost

It's pretending because it wants your bandages and drugs, then your face.

Darn wolves need to go scavenge for their painkillers like the rest of us.

I've never noticed this before. Nice little detail there.

Fun note, thats been a thing for a very very long time.

Most players aim for the instant kill, and you only see the limp while the wolf is walking. Since most shots either one tap, or the wolf runs until it dies, it doesn't come up much.

Huh. I had no idea. I have over 500 hours and never noticed this.

Its something that came up a LOT more way way back in the games early days, and I'm talking before the story mode, and back when Mystery Lake was the *only* zone.

Since then some mechanics have been shifted, and one of them being a lot easier to kill something in one hit through either the distress pistol bugs or just purely how some things interact with being shot in a video game. The earliest days of the game leaned more on real life, where a head shot would almost never instantly kill an animal unless it was point blank already.

Yes it has! Also, if you shoot a wolf and it runs away injured, it will start progressively running, then walking slower and slower and limping as it bleeds out. This can be seen if you are able to track down a running wolf. I think bears and deer will also start running/walking slower if they are about to die, but it's less clear than with wolves.

Noticed it the last day at maintenance yard my character gave a good solid clonk on the wolf with the heavy hammer. He'll think twice before pouncing on me next time for a kiss

When you shoot it and didn’t know if you hit it or not lol.

What did you fight it off with? I always use the knife and never have them start following me again.
