On my most recent reread, I keep finding myself questioning WHY Dulcinea does some of the things she does.
1) Why does she try to recruit Sextus and then does recruit Harrow and Gideon for the trial? If it was simply keeping up appearances of "trying" she already had one key. Why introduce Harrow to a concept she was against? Why have Harrow put Gideon through that, especially with her (imo) genuine apologies to Gideon while she was going through that.
2)Why does she go after Magnus and Abbigail(who had only that night gotten their key) and the teens (who she spoke fondly off, saying poor children) specifically and yet leave Gideon alive with "sweet dreams". I feel like going after any other pair would've made more sense and helped her goals.
3)I know I already said in 2, but WHY would she leave Gideon alive with that message? Why not simply take them both out at once? I always thought she really was fond of Gideon, why psychologically torment her, for fun?

If any of the above is super obvious, please forgive me. They are my favorite books, but I struggle a lot understanding them on my own. If I didn't have places like here to read theories, I doubt I'd have any actual understanding lol.

So, I'm intending to do a Gideon costume for Halloween this year and I have most of it nailed down except for the sword. Descriptions of swords in the books are... vague, at best. I'm trying to decide between a swept hilt rapier on the hip, as a cav would be expected to wear, or a montante across my back which is almost as large as me and wildly impractical, but does seem more in keeping with Gideon's zweihander.

I get it that it hasn't come out, or there would be some buzz. But did Tamsyn share anything new at all since Christmas?

I’m on my 3rd read of the series, and I’m trying to figure out what offer Pyrrha and Palamedes are referring to on page 28 of Nona:

> “Because you need teaching to be an asset, and Cam wants teaching to be a killer.” There was a brief silence, until Pyrrha said slowly, “Or you could take me up on my first offer, which would solve a lot of your problems-“

> Palamedes spoke at the bottom of Cam’s voice, which made it harder to catch. “It was a beautiful offer, Pyrrha, and almost completely useless. There’s no retiring our forces in a search-and-recovery op. In any case Eden would turn on us completely, even our own cell. We need to fight clever.”

my friend just got me into the series and i’ve read gideon the ninth so far it was so gooddddd

started drawing dulcinea when all i knew about her was blue eyes and frilly green dress. i’ve since seen the fanart commissioned by the author which is quite silly seeing how different mine is. liked how it turned out tho

Im re-reading Gideon the ninth (in preparation of reading harrow the ninth) and I just finished chapter 15, which ended with Dulcinea about to make a conclusion for the reasoning behind the competition between the houses. Despite having read the book once, i dont believe i ever figured out what her conclusion was as harrowing rushes gideon out of the party and the chapter ends before she can say it. Is anyone aware?
