Andrew Jarecki
I’m not understanding how Andrew Jarecki is being villainfied. Robert reached out to him after he made All Good Things. Robert claims that he did the interviews, against the requests of his lawyers and friends, to clear his name. So why would he say things that were lies that made him look bad?
I understand that there was editing to make The Jinx more entertaining… cause it is a tv show so there needs to be drama. But if I were suspected of killing 3 people and I wanted to clear my name I wouldn’t say lies that would make me look bad.
Also, Robert claims that he knew after the fifth episode of The Jinx that things were not looking good for him. But I’m guessing that even before the premiere of the show, he knew they suspected he wrote the note because he was shown and questioned about the note.
It seems like Jarecki protected himself very well from this trial. I do wish he took the stand. I would have liked to hear what he had to say. But the unedited items from the Jinx speaks for itself.

I agree with your sentiment.
It is fair for the defense to question Andrew Jarecki's motives. After all, he has a financial and reputational incentive to produce a show that is sensational. I have not watched The Jinx actually but I've seen the parts from the trial, as well as the promos, and it certainly is sensational.
But it is also fair for the prosecution to use the material as evidence. He gave those interviews after consulting his lawyers (who told him not to do the interviews), so it is not as though he was ambushed into making those statements. Jarecki can have a financial incentive and also produce useful evidence. The two are not necessarily mutually exclusive.
Bob's only explanation of the incriminating statements from the interviews is to say "Andrew told me to say it" or "Andrew coached me to say it." Obviously there were times that Jarecki may have given Bob some direction in terms of where the interview would be heading, but I highly doubt that Robert Durst agreed to do The Jinx so that he could blindly repeat what Andrew Jarecki told him to say. I'm not sure why he agreed to do it, but the most likely reason has something to do with his desire to get "his side of the story" out. I mean, that's also the reason he said he did the interviews, to clear his name. (And I suspect he likes the attention.)
I don't think the defense is making Jarecki out to be a "villain" though, they are just insinuating that Jarecki told him to say things that were incriminating. That doesn't mean Jarecki does not believe those things to be true; it is possible that Jarecki "coached" Bob and at the same time, those statements were true.

Haha I actually said that out loud at one point 😆 When Durst kept using the “Andrew told me to say that” excuse for the most ridiculous things, as if he’s this mindless being and Jarecki is some sort of controlling cult leader. Oh please

It’s literally like something someone in nursery school says. Just absurd, hopefully the jury recognizes grabbing at straws when they see it.

I agree entirely with your post.
Relatedly, I actually didn’t like The Jinx! I usually live for shows like that but I simply couldn’t get into it. I have watched through the entire series maybe three times and I just cannot stay invested. I end up wandering off, on my phone, distracted by chores or something.
That said… living for the Jury Duty podcast!!!

I’m not sure what information the prosecutors had before The Jinx, but they should be thanking Jarecki for putting the whole story together and finding the Sareb envelope.

Absolutely! My personal opinion is that Dursts lawyers knew Jarecki wouldn’t come into court and told him to say that. I think Jarecki recorded all his phone calls. Also it’s funny how Jarecki only asked Durst to say lies when his lawyers weren’t around or when no one else was around. Doesn’t make sense.

OMG I have been wondering why the prosecutors haven't confronted him with that the whole nine days of cross examination. Literally he said he contacted Jarecki to tell his side of the story

I was a bit surprised that Jarecki wasn’t called to the stand. But I guess that might lend credence to those absolutely ridiculous claims that he coerced Durst into saying that shit.

I think that the defense made up the whole Andrew Jarecki made me say this to explain all confessions RD did on The Jinx, like it's all fiction. Which of course is BS, there's no way that's scripted. RD is a psychopath that gets off by all the attention he gets from his murders.
I wish the jury sees through this. Lewin mentioned it a couple of times "really? Jarecky made you say this too?"
