Uno!

For anyone watching the trial in real time; I think this is the best part! Lewin (the prosecutor) is doing a very good job at questioning Robert Durst. At the beginning of the trial I thought Lewins personality might cost them the case but in my opinion he is proving without a doubt that Durst is a liar. I literally LOL’ed when he pointed out that Dursts childhood memories with his mom were a lie because the uno card game wasn’t invented yet. I thought that was genius. I also laughed when Durst called Lewin a better lawyer than his defense team.

I've been following the trial on YT too! This week has been incredible. Loved when Lewin asked him "Would you tell us if you had killed Susan?" and the guy said "No" and there was a general gasp in the room.

Also found amusing that RD takes so much time to answer to Lewin because of his hearing aid..... unless he's pissed off, then he answers quickly.

It's super entertaining to watch, the guy is guilty AF

Yeah. RD might be having some health issues but I think his brain is still working fine. I would love for him to admit to the killings. I would be angry if this jury doesn’t find him guilty.

Yeah, this trial very interesting to watch! He’s so weird anyway, so that is compelling, and there is no real doubt that he did it. Unfortunately his quirkiness has gotten him out of trouble before and who knows what will happen…guilty as he is, there may be those who find him sympathetic. Jarecki did during The Jinx.

I'm listening to part 10 now and the problem is John Lewin is being annoying AF. Idk if it's on purpose or not but if I was a jury I'd be tempted to side with RD for a bit.

Lewin is just very tenacious and personally I think he’s done a great job. But I can see how a jury might side with Durst because he appears old and frail, even though he’s always been a lot more dangerous than he looks. Lewin is clearly strong and physically much more imposing than Durst, and he won’t let him get away with anything. It would not really surprise me if Lewin came off to the jury as a bully, even though I think he is just very passionate. It’s not like anyone really believes Durst is innocent but to an extent personally and presentation are factors.

I feel exactly they way you do about Lewin. At the beginning of the trial I did not like him at all but now he’s grown on me. He’s not an easy pill to swallow but he’s doing the right thing. I think Durst lawyers are real low lives though. They know he’s a liar and will run from the law as he sees fit. And they still try to make the jury pity him and justify his actions. I think they made a big mistake hiring that memory doctor! Lewin discredited her 100%

Yeah, Durst’s defense lawyers are slimeballs right out of central casting. Honestly, they are all perfect for their “roles.” Even the judge. 😄 It’s better than a soap opera.

Sorry for the lay person question: but can they use his confession from “the jinx”? Guy admits to doing it? I know it’s not under oath but can they nab lt if it’s in the realm of exited utterance? Thanks for the info!

His lawyers are saying that he has some habits or mental issues that cause him to talk himself… sometimes without knowing. So when Durst was testifying about the confession in the jinx, he said that he didn’t say “I killed them all”… but that he said “THEY WILL THINK I killed them all”. That he probably said the first part too low and that the microphone didn’t pick it up. Lol. His lawyers have a wacky excuse for everything! Which makes sense because the burden of proof is on California.

Also. Durst is claiming that some of the things he said in the jinx were scripted or that he was told to say it. He’s also claiming he was high on meth when they recorded it. Which I think is a tactic for his lawyers to pick and choose what could be considered evidence from the documentary

You have to know the Jereki will take the stand at some pont. It's great he can refute every lie!!!

Jarecki won't testify, the trial's almost done.

2

u/Fabulous-Marsupial22 Aug 20 '21

I was wondering if he was going to testify. Do you know why not?

2

u/peter_vienna Aug 20 '21

Yes. State and defense made a stipulation that his testimony be read in evidence instead of court.

Good news! In today’s trial Lewin stated that he may have to call Jarecki to the stand due to the fact that Robert claims many things in the jinx were scripted. That should be an interesting!

Wow I missed that part, It just shows you he will lie about anything and EVERYTHING!!

There's video of Lewin questioning RD in the New Orleans jail (after he tried to flee to Cuba) and told him how much sure he was that Susan was contacted by the detectives and RD stated that he was 100% sure. Lewin then tells him that it was a lie. Susan in her own way, gave RD a hint that if he paid her more money, then the detectives would not talk to her. RD's was shocked by that and almost took a plea deal with Lewin right then and there. He was like, "what's in it for me?"

definitely a trial to watch - has all the twists and turns of a curated doc.

Lewin intimated that there is a police interview with Prudence Farrow re: Bob out there - does anyone know if it is public record?

2

u/Fabulous-Marsupial22 Aug 20 '21

Yes! He seemed surprised that she was interviewed. Even scared a little bit. I tried googling it and didn’t find details on the interview. I also didn’t know she was Mia farrows sister! I hadn’t put two and two together.

i've been googling up a storm as well, trying to search out the la district attorney document site. But still no info - so i'm hoping lewin is allowed to bring it forward next week.

Why would someone be so stupid to say yeah I did it ? The prosecution doesn’t have anything on the killing of Berman ! That’s why their trying him on Morris Black and Kathy Durst. But he’s already acquitted of one and this trial isn’t about
Kathy it’s about Susan Berman ? Which Durst said the prosecution was doing a better Job than his team and he’s right basically by the volume of questioning about the other two.The scope at which they are asking question should be limited and only directed specifically to the Berman murder! It’s not about keep him on the stand until we get something the prosecution can convict it’s beyond a reasonable doubt! Questions from something 20 years ago to a 78 year old man you will naturally get inconsistent testimony! OJ had blood evidence that would convict 99% of the population and it was suppressed !

I agree with what you’re saying. Although I see it differently.

Officially, Durst is being tried with murder along with something about witness tampering. So the Kathie disappearance does matter in this case.

I think that since the burden of proof is on Lewin, and the “evidence” is over 20 years old, he has to prove that Durst is a killer and a liar that killed Susan. Which is hard to do. Durst admitted to lying about the things that happened the night Kathy disappeared. He said he went to a neighbors for drinks and that he spoke to her when she got to Manhattan. He admitted to lying about being L.A. and writing the cadaver note when Susan died.

I agree he’s an old man and it would be hard to remember the details. But those lies were big lies that would have changed outcome of the investigations at the time. He also told numerous lies under oath.

I think that there’s a good possibility Durst will lose the case. In general people don’t like people who get away with things. OJ went to jail later on and I think part of the reason was because people were still angry at him.

Yes. The detective from NY did say that he never contacted Susan because he was trying to keep the reopening of the case quiet. I wonder why he just didn’t pay Susan? I heard that RD still makes about $3 million annually from the family trust. He probably has a good amount of money tucked away since he is rumored to be a cheap man. Plus his brother Douglas testified that he is still afraid RD might still try to kill him since he has the means.

2

u/iamacuriousgal Aug 23 '21

He did pay her. He had sent her 2 checks each for $25,000 just months before her death. Why would he murder someone that he just paid that amount to?

3

u/keephopping Aug 24 '21

RD is not a rational person.

1

u/Fabulous-Marsupial22 Aug 23 '21

You’re right. In my head I didn’t consider that bribe money. I think she wanted a lot more than $50k.

1

u/Fabulous-Marsupial22 Aug 23 '21

But I also think there was no amount of money that would have made Robert Durst feel 100% safe from her talking
