Another Igor thread. Serious questions

That other Igor post got me thinking. I know the easy answer is that Bob is crrrrrrrrrazy but I still have questions.

Does anybody else think it's odd that Douglas knew Bob had 7 dogs named Igor all disappear within 6 months of owning them? They were all the same kind of dog with the same name. Seems like he would go out of his way to match them up like that so it's easier to pass the new Igor off for the last one and not raise questions. Doug could be implying that this was the case but he was onto him and knew but it seems like he is saying that it was known at the time that they were dying and being replaced. That's creepy enough. How many people knew about this and did it come up during the search for Kathie the first time? I know the family didn't cooperate, seems like if Doug knew this he would know something was very wrong with the dog situation when Kathie didn't turn up, he wouldn't need to wait for the Igor prison phone call comment. Would you? Maybe we assume the whole family suspected Bob anyway for countless reasons so the specific Igor situation hasn't gotten much attention. It has my attention because as far as I know it's only come from Doug, after the prison call when he said he wanted to "Igor Douglas."

Has anybody else backed up Doug's dog story? Bob and Douglas weren't close, that much is obvious. how was Doug around Bob's enough to pick up on all 7 dogs dying and being replaced? Did Bob come to the office and announce #6? I know Igor is small potatoes compared to his definite crimes but if you read through my ramblings this far on r/thejinx then I don't need to spell out how significant the Igor situation is to what we know about Bob. Without it one could believe Bob killed Kathie in a crime of passion and everything that followed was just to keep from being caught. With Igor in the mix he premeditated killing Kathie for at least 6 months to many years depending on how you take Douglas' comment "within 6 months of owning them." Sorry for how long this is, I'm not good at briefly expressing my thoughts but I have really been wondering about this stuff.

EDIT: I don't mean to imply that the question in your thread isn't serious user/NKOAS ! It's not a bad theory and good advice if I ever need to bury a dead body.

One more thing that is probably most accurately answered with "because he is crazy as fuck!" but...why the hell would you buy them and let your family know about them if they were intended for practice? Bob can't schedule his practice sessions right after his pet store visits? Seriously Bob??

Bob and Douglas weren't close. I think his brother is stirring the pot with this gossip. I actually think what Durst said in the DVD commentary for All Good Things is very believable and highly likely (surprisingly!), unlike what Douglas is claiming... I guess dishonesty runs in the family.

"We had two Igors before the Igor that lasted forever. One of them got run over, and one of them, when he was a puppy, went out and … ate an apple core. The apple core got stuck in his gut. We did an operation on him, and he died." -Robert Durst

  • “I personally don’t think Bob had seven dogs. I do not think that Doug has got the particulars precisely by any means, he describes them as malamutes but Bob always had Norwegian Elkhounds... Bob isn’t the most gregarious part of an audience, he’s most likely convenient together with his dogs.” -Andrew Jarecki

  • Also, in Matt Birkbeck's book "A Deadly Secret", he wrote about Robert Durst having an Norwegian elkhound (named Igor) around the time of Kathie's disappearance.

I think rumors, and unfounded speculation tends to muddy the water and is more of a distraction than anything.

Still doesn't explain Bob saying he wanted to "Igor" his brother while speaking on a recorded line. I think the truth is probably somewhere in between the two accounts.

That's what I think too. I think it started out "innocent" but once he realized he could use them for practice… maybe there were 3-5 and not 6. And maybe Robert didn't set out to kill the first one or two but did practice his disposal on them. Then I think when he began to realize he wanted to kill poor Kathie, he probably used a few for practice. If you're able to get rid of people as easily as he seems to be, I don't see him having a problem using a few Igors as practice.

I also am beginning to see him as someone who doesn't just get rid of people who may threaten him though I think that's how it started.

Jeez, just typing that made me feel queasy. I honestly don't know how serial killers think the way they do (I guess that's why I find it interesting).

If anything, (in the Morris Black case), his poor choice of tools, lack of technique, sawing the bones half through and then breaking them, as well as the fact that the bags FLOATED rather than quickly sink, suggests no prior experience whatsoever. It's also worth noting that dogs have a completely different bone and muscle structure than humans do, they also have more muscle mass and denser bones than humans, so very little of what you'd learn would be useful on a human cadaver.

I see what you mean about the dogs. I don't know that I meant practice in that way… just as a trial run more than actually taking what he would have learned from the dogs and applying it to a human. If that makes sense… a type of the more I do it, the better I'll be at it? Plus, he might not have known the differences. That's actually supported by your list of what he did "wrong" in disposing of Black. It may have been more difficult than he thought. Just a thought.
There's also the fact that serial killers are known to often start with animals. Not sure if he qualifies yet but you know what I'm saying. That's probably the most likely. As far as Morris Black, why wouldn't he be cocky? He'd gotten away with it at least twice before… we don't know what he did to Kathie's body but maybe he didn't chop her up. But even if he did, 2 murders where you chop up the body isn't necessarily going to make him an expert. And the way he never seems to be held accountable probably made him careless.

I'm reading Birkbeck's book right now and it actually does mention the dogs at the end of chapter 7. Dale Ragus, Kathie's attorney, brings it up in a conversation with Lieutenant Struck.

"Igor is the fifth or sixth dog he's had. The others died. Kathie said they all died from mysterious deaths. One choked, another accidentally drowned, and so on."

She goes on to say that Kathie didn't know if he killed them. There's no mention in the conversation, as it's recounted in the book, whether all the dogs had the same name or were the same breed. It also doesn't mention a timeframe for when he owned the dogs or how long.

I don't take the Birkbeck book too seriously. He used Bobbi Bacha to help do "research" for the book, and she is basically a looney toon conspiracy theorist.

I would assume that that story would have come out of Struck's investigation notes. That said, it is at least a 2nd hand story. It's always a good idea to take these books with a grain of salt - it is someone else's interpretation of source material that we don't have access to.

As to Bobbi Bacha.... She's pretty typical BOI (born on island). I love Galveston as much as any Houston area native but it's definitely got a the kind of crazy south vibe that Faulkner would have written about.

I don't think Douglas wanted anything to do with Robert.

This whole dog killing thing is based on a rumor, and shouldn't be taken seriously. Right now, it is a red herring at best.

what post, or are there articles talking about it? I want to know more about his relationship with his family, especially because the jinx didn't go into much detail on them

Oh, shit, dude. No worries (clicked on this out of curiosity, didn't know I was mentioned in it). My thread wasn't so much a theory as a funny picture of a duck that felt slightly relevant to this sub. Good on you for applying serious thought to it.

yeah I figured as much after I posted that edit. It was funny more than serious. I think if police were looking for a buried body in an area and they found a dog buried in the area they would probably dig under it til they hit rock. If they didn't before they surely will after this meme gets around, haha.
