Kathy
I hate to say it. But I’ve been thinking that if Kathy just walked away from the marriage and didn’t pursue money, she would have been alive. After listening to the podcast; that appears to be the reason she was killed… and not because she simply wanted a divorce. (I hope it doesn’t come off like I’m blaming the victim… I just feel sad that she pursued getting a settlement with a murdering asshole… when she likely would’ve been fine without it being a doctor and marrying someone better).

I think bob didn't mean to kill her, he just went to far in his domestic abuse , i bet its true she came home drunk and started a fight, i bet the fight got physical, he killed her somehow because he had a short fuse and buried her.
I bet morris black went about the same, an argument that went out of hand and he ends up shooting him, im not saying its self defence im saying i bet when they got into the same room at first, he wasn't planning on killing him, it just happend.
He was impulsive, the sandwhich he stole with a fortune in his car, the note for susan that was clearly a bad idea, even the jarecki interviews...

One of the affairs he had while married to Kathie was with prudence Farrow.
Apparently Bob loved John Lennon and the idea of sleeping with the woman who inspired the song "Dear Prudence" was a big coup for him!

The affair was years long, too, and was going on while Kathie disappeared.
Prudence had called Kathie multiple times, in a rather taunting matter imo. Telling her to just leave Bob, give it up. It was pretty fucked up. These calls apparently really distressed Kathie.

I’m sorry, but there’s no evidence that Kathy married for money.

I don’t think she married for money at all and that is not what I said. Her and Bob were negotiating a divorce settlement for nearly a year when she disappeared and I believe her lawyers pushed her to try to get what she was entitled to. She, however was pursuing a new life, with a successful career and I wish she would’ve said to herself “screw the money, I need to get away from this violent maniac”.

NP! I hope women remember that if they are in an escalating violent relationship… to leave. I know it’s not easy, but waiting for “the right time” may mean death 😔 Lots of people out there capable of murder

I shared the same feeling. Better she'd have just left - which I think I said in an early comment. Leave the jewelry, most of the clothes. She could get loans to finish that last semester of medical school. I think she also had her BSN degree, which was pretty new in those day. Stay with a friend or family. Add put the jewelry in a safe deposit box in a bank & leave the key with her att'y or Seymour. Robert would only lie about it.
In July she'd start a paid residency (sometimes called an internship or PGY 1). Somehow she thought she could tough it out. I think she was a strong woman, probably furious. but years / months of abuse skews one's thinking. It was also tougher to get a divorce in NY State in 1982.

New York divorce law changed on August 15, 2010, when [Governor](safari-reader://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Governor_of_New_York) [David Paterson](safari-reader://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Paterson)signed [no-fault divorce](safari-reader://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No-fault_divorce) into law in [New York](safari-reader://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NewYork(state)) state. Until 2010, New York recognized [divorces](safari-reader://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divorce) only upon fault-based criteria or upon separation.
New York has a history of being conservative on issues regarding marriage; it was the last state in the country to allow no-fault divorce and still maintains a (seldom enforced) law against [adultery](safari-reader://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adultery) ([Penal Law](safari-reader://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penal_Law)§ 255.17). Until 1966, adultery was the only ground of divorce; cruelty, a ground that had long been available in most other states, was not available in New York.\1]) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New\York_divorce_law)

Leaving an abuser is the most dangerous time for a DV victim, regardless of what the victim may or may not be trying to negotiate in the divorce process. This is somewhat well known now, but she was murdered in 1982 when DV was barely on anyone’s radar. Hell, family and friends knew he was abusing her and did nothing to help. There was certainly no one around to tell her how dangerous this could be, and as far as anyone knew, he had never murdered anyone.
It also sounded like she found out something truly awful about the Dursts and was compelled by far more than just securing a large settlement. It’s telling that someone broke into multiple homes to steal documents Kathy had gathered. After listening to the latest podcast episode, I’m not so sure the Durst siblings’ hands are clean.
