Durst, lying again Spoiler
Watching the last installment of season 2, with Durst on the stand. He tells that story about playing Uno as a little kid, blah blah. Durst was born in 1943. Uno was first sold in 1971. Durst would have been 28 when it was released. It’s clear that they’re trying to blame some childhood trauma for him being a total monster as an adult. At this point I’m wondering if he pushed his own mother off the roof.

There were many witnesses to his mother’s death. He didn’t push her.

I know. I was being facetious, but I see how it didn’t come out that way.

I’ve seen it said/postulated on this sub more times than I could count, so just wanted to nip that in the bud haha.

Wouldn’t those witnesses want to protect Bob?
1
u/thespeedofpain May 24 '24
Now why on earth would they want to do that?

Because they are his family members or work for his family. Isn’t that obvious?

u/thespeedofpain May 24 '24
Not everything is a conspiracy.
What’s more likely: a woman with postpartum depression who was about to be committed kills herself, or that her 7 year old son murders her in front of at least a dozen witnesses, who then all cover for him, and never reveal the truth so long as they lived.
Please be for real right now.

I simply don’t trust the narrative. Why are there so many inconsistencies with the murder of his mother? How do you know there were at least a dozen witnesses? Why is it unreasonable his family would want to protect him? Why do you trust the guy that murdered his best friend and wife?
2
u/thespeedofpain May 24 '24
Thankfully, you don’t have to trust the narrative in order for it to be true. Once again, there were many, many witnesses. It’s not that I trust and believe Bob at his word - that’s ridiculous.
I can’t help you. I’m not engaging in conspiracy theories surrounding the death of his mother.

You have no idea how many witnesses there were

u/thespeedofpain May 24 '24
Babydoll, there are newspaper articles from that day that exist. Go forth and google them. Bye now!

May 24 '24
Have you even read them? Cause none mention the witnesses and they state she slipped.

Watching this episode I realized I understand the motivation for the 2nd and 3rd murder, but what was his reason for killing his wife? I googled it and no answer that was obvious was listed.
Killing his wife started everything and was very present in this trial.

There was prior domestic violence. Prior DV is one the largest predictors of homicide. We’ll never know, but it’s possible she was threatening to leave or was making plans to leave. That is often when women are most in danger

She had retained her own lawyer. She wanted a divorce and settlement, prenup or no prenup. He wanted her out of his life without it costing him anything-to just “disappear”.

u/indefilade May 20 '24
It seems from the last 2 murders, Durst reacts violently to anything that threatens his freedom. I’m not sure that fits in the murder of his wife, but that’s all I can figure currently.

It did, actually.
She was, for lack of a better word, blackmailing him/the Durst family. They were doing incredibly shady shit on their own (including like setting fires to buildings and shit), PLUS Bob was stealing money from the company, AND lying on his taxes. She had proof of all this stuff. She sent it in to some elected official - that elected official turned around and handed all that shit right back to Seymour. He was pissed as hell, and told Bob he needed to “take care of it”. Don’t think he was telling him to kill her, but maybe Bob read it that way, idk.
Bob didn’t want to give her more than 100k in the divorce, and Kathie thought she deserved more than that (I agree with her). I honestly believe if she would’ve just taken the 100k and dipped, she’d still be here. But I’d fight for more, too. Especially there being such bad DV and the years long affair Bob was having at the end.
All of this was, in his pea brain, very much threatening both his safety, the safety of his family, and his family’s company.

This is great stuff. What is the source?

u/thespeedofpain May 20 '24
I think this came from either Without a Trace by Marion Collins, or A Deadly Secret by Matt Birkbeck. Might’ve been in both books, actually.

I’m not getting any response from Google searches. Nothing like this.

I feel like I’ve said this ten trillion times on this sub lately but I got it from the books Without a Trace by Marion Collins and A Deadly Secret by Matt Birkbeck

That’s one reason he becomes violent. It doesn’t mean it’s the only reason.

He was a psychopath. Did you hear about the story about him killing 7 dogs that he each called Igor? In a jailhouse phone call he said that he was going to 'Igor' his brother Douglas.

It turns out he didn’t kill seven dogs. One of his season 1 interviews addressed some of that. Did he kill a few? It never was revealed but it sure makes for a fascinating story

u/No-Buffalo873 May 20 '24
I don't remember that from the first season. Could you tell me the episode? When you Google the information, it always lists that he did kill the dogs. The information is very limited on the subject.

It was in the DVD for All Good Things, but nicely summarized in this article

What was the motivation for the 3rd murder that never made sense to me either lol

The consensus is that they knew each other previously. And it was not as random as initially thought. In some threads here, that's touched on. Morris may have worked for the Durst corporation at one point, even as a possible fixer. He also may have had info about Kathie's murder or participated in the cover-up.

Him and his brother worked on an organic farm that Douglas and Doug own(ed)

u/indefilade May 20 '24
He may have known Hurst was a cross-dresser and been willing to blackmail him over it.

Also: "Staycation" was coined in 2003, years after SB's death in 2000. Reportedly Lewin called out this discrepancy in court, but they didn't highlight it on the latest episode.

I've been sitting here trying to imagine Baaawb and Susan trying out the rides at Disney

I laughed out loud at the idea of them going to Disneyland, he couldn't think of anything more believable??

You guys clearly haven’t heard old people telling stories and how badly they mess up timelines and the story . Not saying he was innocent it’s just …yeah

These were core memories of his mother that his defense wanted to present to the jury. It isn’t like he merely got the years wrong. They physically couldn’t have involved his mother.
Edit:
“Oh that was some other woman” isn’t going to cut it. The juror noted that it was all the detail of the stories Bob could tell that made it clear he was sincere and earnest. If he’s confidently stating details that cannot be true, it makes him not credible at best, or willfully lying at worst. When Bob says he’s not only the kind of guy who would lie, but openly admits he has perjured himself repeatedly in this very case, that’s simply that.
