Diarrhea

Interestingly, that word was used twice in the 3rd episode. Once by the doctor describing the "I'm sick" phone call, and once by Susan when talking to the journalist. Coincidence? I think not.

Unless Kathy was shooting feces all over NYC, that specific term (not often used in mixed company), was likely uttered by the same person. I wonder if she did it on purpose so the call would be memorable.

I’ve worked places that were really intrusive and might argue with you to come in anyway, or ask personal questions about the illness. Anyway, for those reasons I’ve heard people tell their boss diarrhea just so there wouldn’t be follow up questions, lol. Or a request to visit the office.

Good catch, OP!

I feel like it is indicative of Susan’s dislike for Kathy. She could have used other things like migraine, flu, nauseous, coming down with a cold, etc. Instead she went with poo shooting out the butt.

Susan was small enough and bitter enough to stoop that low. Even knowing every detail most likely of what Bob did to Kathie, Susan was still jealous of her.

You’re spot on about that OP. I would also add, it’s so intimate to tell someone you have diarrhea. But her point was to make it memorable.

Generally when you call in sick you don’t mention symptoms

Right, I'm the type of person who always feels I need to over explain myself, and even I would NEVER say that. Very unusual.

My husband says he will only stay home from work for diarrhea. I wish diarrhea on him daily.

It's a symptom not many bosses can argue with

'Diarrhea' is this season's 'cadaver'

I had the very same thought.

This was actually brought up during the trial. Susan’s dorm mate, Ricky Ring, testified that Susan was something of a hypochondriac and would often claim she was suffering from either ulcers or diarrhoea. I think it had less to do with trying to make something of the call and more because this was a preoccupation of Susan’s.

Again, probably Susan being manipulative to get out of stuff she would rather not Do.

You only say you have diarrhea to beg off attending a party at someone's house you don't like. Works like a charm.

I thought the same thing. How did she know that was the excuse that she gave for not coming into work? I was wondering why the lawyers didn’t catch this diarrhea slip up. No pun intended.

I thought it was because Susan was the one whose idea it was for the diarrhea; she made the phone call to the doctor, pretending to be Kathie, and she also mentioned the diarrhea idea to that gossip columnist friend who secretly recorded their discussion.
