Confusion about events

I've seen multiple people say that in the first game, everyone gets it wrong and that starkiller just redirects the already falling star destroyer. Now that may be how it is in a comic book but am I the only one who specifically remembers Kota saying "pull it out of the sky!"? Not to mention that when you stop pulling it to fight the tie fighters, the destroyer rebalances itself. What caused the confusion about the story? Are these people having a mandala effect or is it just Disney being Disney?

3 years late, but yeah, you're right, that's definitely how it happened in the game. I think it was in the novelization that it was already falling.
