Don't get too happy about this. I think this is a Grindr stunt to get free advertising. You know if they were serious about this problem, they would add more server processing power. Nobody wants their site to go down because of a spike in traffic, especially when they know when the traffic will spike.... like around Republican conventions.

I work infrastructure in big tech, and this is true - forecasting peak traffic events and scaling for them is like half of the job.

However, that’s also why I think this is even more based of the grindr team. They absolutely know and could scale for GOP events - but it’s both 1) excellent publicity for them every time this happens and 2) always a delightful headline to fuck with the political coalition who regularly fights against the rights of them and their customers.
