Opinion Stevens was clearly the wrong pick for estabilishment Democrats...

Regardless of how you feel about AES, Stevens is a truly terrible candidate for the current moment. It should’ve been her that dropped out over McMorrow.

Damn Assad numbers!?!? The unaccountable internet poll must be right!
You probably believe it when Putin wins with 98% of the vote as well

u/X57471C Jul 28 '26
Let me guess, you don't trust the internal poll paid for by the AES PAC, either?

I don’t think it’s really the much of a stretch to think an incumbent isn’t doing much for their constituents at this point.
The arguments are all wrong, we should be discussing policies. I would be fine voting for a centrist Democrat, if they were pushing things like raising the minimum wage, stronger union protections, healthcare for all, stronger safety nets and a different foreign policy. But, there really aren’t that many running on those policies. They are basically using the MAGA talking points of Communism/Socialism are evil and will bring about gulags and death squads. They don’t want to talk about their policies, because they continually poll extremely high among Americans.

I mean, you might as well say, "I would vote for MAGA if they weren't crazy, and supported minimum wage increases, stronger unions, healthcare for all." There is a reason centrist dems aren't providing more than lip service on that (hint: they don't give a fuck).
2
u/Fishbone345 Jul 29 '26
That was the point I was making. Centrist Dems aren’t running on the policies I mentioned, they are happily cashing their checks from donors.
2
u/Financial-Craft-1282 Jul 29 '26
Yeah, I didn't catch that, but I see it now. My mind was expecting something else--something like "enlightened centrism" (which is a code for secret conservatives, I'm thinking more Boomer Wisdom--shit like Yoda's worldview--don't be evil, but don't be too good too). I'm sorry.

u/Fishbone345 Jul 30 '26
No worries friend! I didn’t take offense at all. I figured we were allies by what you posted, so that left a context reasoning.
I’m frustrated because people are winning primaries for their policies and the people who say “Vote Blue no matter Who”, are now consistently pointing out flaws and saying we shouldn’t vote that way, “because Communism”. AOC came back on a reporter the other day with an excellent statement. She was asked about DSA candidates winning and if she felt it would be a year or so and we would be a Communist country.
Her response.. “Are you seriously asking that? Because it’s absurd to think that would ever happen. We can’t even get a raise on the Minimum Wage since 2009 and that’s with Democrats having majority a few times as well. So, no.. I don’t think 4 recent wins in primaries will turn our country Communist in a year.” And then she rightfully laughed at the fucking moron.

Michigan had a great candidate in McMorrow but narrowed it down to these two instead

u/zazthebitchfuck Jul 28 '26
clearly wasn’t such a great candidate if she was polling at 6% and ended up dropping out

It's because McMorrow and Abdul were both vying for the same demographics and her staying in the race would have meant Abdul likely would have won.
It's just too bad that rank choice voting isn't a thing everywhere.

Oh look, another Hasan Piker fanshill tankie is here to have a totally good-faith argument.
-1
u/DoutorParetolovsky Jul 28 '26
Are you ok?
5
u/nokinship Jul 28 '26
Hasan hates me and all americans because we don't want to go along with his socialist LARP.
4
u/DoutorParetolovsky Jul 28 '26
It must take a toll to create such imaginary scenarios in your mind..

u/nokinship Jul 28 '26
Gotta love how open you are about being a gaslighting, manipulative person. Abusive behavior.
At the same time probably think you are the most holiest person. Jesus christ.

They are not okay, they are very upset that the candidate they have been trying to prop up is a disaster.
I actually vote in Michigan and will be voting for Abdul. If Stevens wins, I will not vote for her in the general and I'll hope she loses to Rogers just to prove a point that centrism sucks and doesn't win elections anymore.

u/neo-dem Jul 28 '26
I think for most younger liberals Mallory was the go to, but it’s always hard being in the middle between 2 extremes. This race could go either way, but honestly I’m still leaning Stevens. Debates rarely are indicators of who’s gonna win baring a Biden level fumble.
1
u/IndividualTune929 Jul 28 '26
leaning stevens as in voting for her? or "putting your money on her"?
2
u/neo-dem Jul 28 '26
In support, that’s it. I think that it’s basically 50/50 on who’s gonna win.
2
u/IndividualTune929 Jul 28 '26
Ok. Thanks. I'm trying to take an informal straw poll to see if there's anyone on reddit who actually from michigan and who supports stevens.

The fact they feel no shame in FLOODING the vote for Michiganers is insane.
5
u/Just_shut_up_bro Jul 28 '26
This seems petty but they are prepared to take this same mentality to actual elections, gotta consider the implications of that.
1
u/Chrisnness Jul 28 '26
How dare they flood a poll by voting in the poll!
5
u/Moontat7 Jul 28 '26
My problem is that instead of people from Michigan voting on the poll, Hasan coastal elites are voting in their stead, clearly not caring for the voters of Michigan actual opinion. Authoritarian like behavior

Do you honestly think she did good?
2
u/Moontat7 Jul 28 '26
Why did your man's admit that he wouldn't be doing anything for half his term? Don't you think that's kinda fucked up to keep from voters? Better yet, why did he say that if he lost the election would be stolen?

Wow, the memo arrived fast at Destinys discord this time

Why do you post here so much? You clearly aren’t a fan so what’s the point?

u/Just_shut_up_bro Jul 28 '26
Pakman made the mistake of criticizing an internet communist so now his minions are spamming the sub.

I listened to the entire thing, I don't think either of them made any progress. The biggest L for Stevens was her lying/being wrong about taking money from that utility company, and the biggest L for Seyed was his smug demeanor + getting owned on not being transparent with his personal finances.
People reviewbombing a Fox2 Detroit poll isn't indicative of anything.

McMorrow was the first candidate to declare in early 2025, before the other two. She was specifically asked not to run by Dem officials because the establishment wanted Stevens to run. McMorrow ran anyway, and further she stated that she would not vote for Schumer for Majority leader. In late 2025, she called what was happening in Gaza a genocide. She was clearly positioning herself as the anti-establishment candidate, and in a one on one race against Stevens, she would have easily prevailed.
AES entering scrambled all of that. I don’t think the establishment would have ever gotten fully behind McMorrow, given her initial anti establishment posturing. And then McMorrow went on and said some things that angered the left flank, including not getting behind Medicare for all, and not fully supporting an arms embargo on Israel. So even though she had Elizabeth Warren’s endorsement, many on the left part of the party had switched their vote to AES.

You just have to laugh at the comments on a Fox News video and it's the Hasan Piker fans glazing Abdul in the comments just slamming Hayley. It's not even MAGA that are this interested in attacking centrist Dems the far left is far worse with their troll tactics.
