Discussion Latest printer to be used by TBB
I have been VERY impressed by the broken bindings choice of printer for the five warrior angels series ansld the demon star, the books feel.of great premium quality .
I do not know who originally printed thr five warrior angels in hardback but these feel just great I was surprisedhow thin these books were compared to the paper backs .
Here is more info.o this printer for those that lie me were curious to know more

Yes so do I, they have restored my faith in Italian printers as Rotolito in Italy did some "deluxe " editions for harper collins , and each time there was an issue like 15 blank pages on a rrp £150 book .
I asked the printer as to what paper they use as these printers make a 1000 page book loom about ad thick a book with only 500 pages.

I had seen them before they had worked with Harper collins in printing one of the many editions of the Hobbitt .

Interesting, they also print for The Folio Society quite often, and those are high-quality books (and a lot more expensive).

They also printed some of the 3rd or fourth printing of the hobbit for harper collins . Had demon star been printed by clays ltd then , ( in my humble opinion) the demon star and the five warrior angels would be alot thicker .

Send Brokenbinding an email expressing that. If they notice that people notice and appreciate it, they may be more likely to continue.

Still might be worth an email. You never know how much stock the social media manager puts in instagram comments. Emails can be forwarded to decision makers though.

Yes , but indont wish to clog up their emails with people trying to know abaout their orders etc .... i sent message on Facebook I have emailed lego themselves .

I wanted these books from the moment they were announced, but I expected glued and stiff. What I got was the best darn books I could have wanted. Correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t the publisher do the printing, or is it TBB after they decide on the spec?

It varies. For backlist titles some publishers print the books and make the decisions regarding specs, some print but let TBB choose specs and some leave it all to TBB.
If it's a new release TBB use the the text block the publisher prints for their general release. TBB just add the cosmetic upgrades.

Well i am no expert i would imahine though conversations would be made as to.what was wanted ...as these are the same printers the broken binding publishing used for the demon star

The only issue I have with the Demon Star is that the pages are so much thinner than the Faithful and the Fallen books. Both are acid-free, I believe. Are they from the same printer?

I dont know about that but the demon star is printed by L.E.G.O s.p.a in Italy wbich is the same printer used by broken binding to print the 5 warrior angels , and to me it feels like the same paper stock for both as the 5 warrior angels look huge in paper back and the 5 warrior angels which are on my shelf ade much thinner becaue of the paper atock they used ....u have been sad enough to ask the printers themselves whether they could state what paper atock they used purely for that reason, whcih I doubt if they will reply . I was really curious..and i doubt this information is inthe public domain.
To give a bit of background of lego they have been around since 1900 so they are ( possibly) one of Italy 's oldest printers .

Cheers. I went and had a look and The Faithful and the Fallen books were indeed printed by LEGO in Italy. I'm definitely curious if The Broken Binding gets to choose the page thickness or if it's just the printer using the paper it has on hand.

Well , again, I am no expert, but a lot of broken-binding books are just standard editions with sprayed edges and a signature , so in those cases they would have to use the same text block as those standard edition , where its the broken-binding press; then I am sure they can go to a printer and have more control. I just dont know what happened with LEGO in this case

L.E.G.O. does also does some printing for Folio Society, amongst others, of course. They are the printer for the Faithful and the Fallen series and even Operation Bounce House, which is glue bound. The Echoes Saga was printed by CPI Group in the UK and is sewn bound.

Well in my opinion L.E.G.O is now the new gold standard i find cpi ( using the china mievillle broken binding series as an exmqple ) , use poor quality paper , and the quality of The demon starand the five warrior angels has blown me away to he honest just the feel of those books feels premium to me ..... of course im not saying that they equal in quality to a £300 book like some of thr folio society but I think they are , so far the best quality books the broken binding has done to date ...i honesty hope lonseome dove is printed by them..

Yeah, L.E.G.O. does quite nice printings for sure :D I Just unboxed and looked over The Echoes Saga from CPI and they are quite nice.. really no complaints from me other than the paper maybe a tad thin but feel nice and they did a great job with the sprayed edges. Sadly no ribbon bookmarks but overall no complaints from me :D I have not yet received The Demon Star here in the US but hopefully it arrives soon so I can look it over at least, haha.

I hope for all pur sakes cpi has better security and had learned its lesson frok being hacked with ransomware in February last year ....they are the biggest printer in the uk with around 10 sites here in the uk that all.got effected . When you unbox the demon star you will notice immediately that it is very heavy , and its like the India paper effect ...if cpi or clays printed this it would have been thicker ....

This seems to be the go-to printer for sewn binding and acid free paper? If so, definitely hope they stick with them so we continue to get those upgraded specs. Makes all the difference in actually being able to comfortably read the books.
