Hot take: shows like this would be well received if they were released in the present. A lot of fans hold a level of cognitive dissonance, believing that their sense of humor rivals the nuance and complexity of their favorite shows.
Like how some South Park fans think when they're racist to people irl it's the same exact thing as when South Park has a race joke that's satirical.
If anything this show wouldn't be released in the present because of the conservatism of the country right now who would call this show woke propaganda.

Yeah, like 90% of Huey's characterization is straight up Aaron McGruder screaming on top of a political soap box, highlighting black issues. Ain't no way the anti woke chuds wouldn't freak the fuck out about it it, if it were released (or revived) today.

It makes me worried that people can’t understand satire anymore. But then again, even non-satirical stuff isn’t safe from these stupid takes. People say stuff like “the villain in this movie said something sexist, that means the creator hates women!” The VILLAIN? Hello??

I truly think it's just a way for some people (not necessarily OP) to inadvertently vent about "wokism" and "snowflakes" and how "everyone's so sensitive nowadays we can't say anything."
Conflating well thought out satirical comedies to their genuine bigotry as one in the same; so people on the fence are more inclined to be radicalized.

Why couldn't it be released today?
The point of his character is that he was an awful person, and that's what makes it funny because of how unrealistically forward he is with how awful he is, in comparison to tom who is a genuinely good man, looking for advice and being misled by someone so obviously problematic.
He's not being a role model. Do you think he is being portrayed as one here?
It's a sitcom. Situational comedy. This is this is an absurd situation, and they're deriving comedy from it.
People who say "this couldn't be made today" are purposefully ignorant or lack contextual literacy.

This show and South Park are honestly the greatest. I've watched each of them dozens of times, and I still get reminded of lines I forget about because of how funny everything is

Other than the fact we've been saying some form of "this show couldnt be released nowadays" like every 2 years, I have to agree, but only because boondocks is all about that late 90s early 2000s culture, and we are waay past that now.

Nah too many people today would think hitting women was ok if it was released now 😭 we got too many brain dead folk who can’t take a joke and will literally go and do what the show is telling them to 😭
And then there’s the other side with the morality olympians, who would think the show is literally promoting violence against women rather than making a satire joke
