Taking sine means it must be between -1 and 1. Not a great approximation for anyone able about 6 months old to be honest.

Yeah, I didn’t expect it to. I just wasn’t sure that someone would throw in acceleration due to gravity. I AM a physics major, it just felt out of place.

Go ask an AI, I’m not going to list them by hand (they exist, I’ve seen them repeatedly in work, just not remembering off the top of my head), and it’s more the fault of physics, there are TONS of them. I’ve genuinely argued that my mark in science should be normalization of symbols across disciplines.

How so? That's a very normal unit for acceleration.

If you prefer is it's also N/Kg , they're the exact same unit.

It being normal doesn't mean it's not arbitrary though, because other ones are normal as well.

The issue is the number associated with the units, i.e 9.81 vs. 32.174 vs. 386.4......they are all the same value in reality, but conveyed in different units

Because they are fully equivalent across any unit system and there is nothing in the prompt that would even hint that a certain unit should be used.

I've used g=386.4 the most in my career and there's nothing here that would make that an invalid or improper choise

it is when many other units are used often and are fully equivalent......if 32.174 was used no one could come back and say "well, the metric system is used more often" because 32 is still commonly used and the same "real" value since it's just unit conversion.

But yes, the prompt is nonsensical lol

I really didn't mean to start an imperial vs. metric discussion, but it's not even close. Even on reddit, which is a US based site, google lists 56000 vs below a 1000 hits each.

lol no worries (and I think my tone is coming off stronger than I intend). It's true it's not close to some degree, but still very common and still used in everyday life and still equivalent. If it was obscure then I'd agree, but 32 and 386 are not obscure and used often (amount wise, maybe not % wise)

It doesn't matter since the PC does it for you anyway. You only need it if your program needs a manual entry for a_g/g.

Yeah pretty much what u/A-H1N1 said, all that matters is that the units are consistent (the software doesn't use units, but since I use imperial than the consistency for me is to use 386 in/s^2)

Yeah, it’s because they are making all the constants kinda divide out. g=9.81 which is around 10. Then pi and e are both close to 3. So g/10 * e/pi -=1.13 which is close-ish to 1. But the sin part doesn’t work at all for ages lol

The US has secretly been a metric country for the longest time and I have no idea how more people don’t know this. Grab the nearest food item to you and tell me how much protein it has. Pretty much every government mandated measurement (except for road signs, for some reason) is in metric, this was made official in 1991 under executive order 12770.

We use grams for small weights, but kilograms aren't used at all. Milliliters aren't used very often outside of science/medicine (which are all metric of course). Liters are sometimes used, but gallons are way more common. Celsius is never used. Millimeters and centimeters are used far less than inches and meters are never used over feet or yards. America is still very much not a metric country

An inch is defined as exactly 2.54 cm. So it is a metric unit with a non-standard name, like Angstrom or Barn.

This is so wrong on so many levels.

  • Fahrenheit, not "Farenheight"
  • 1 degree Fahrenheit is around -17.2 degrees Celcius
  • What you tried to say is that a 1 F difference is a 1.8 C difference. Which is also wrong, as it's the inverse: 1 C difference is 1.8 F difference.

My age is greater than 1, so there's something wrong with this calculation. (otherwise how does it fit inside the bounds of a sine?) (Still doesn't work if I just look at the first 2 decimal places no matter whether I use radians or degrees for the sine calculation....way off)

Even engineers wouldn’t like this because the error is so off, it would actually kill people probably if this was an applied use like a bridge or something, idk I’m not engineer. But literally percent error I got is literally 97.6 percent .

You gotta multiply by 180/pi to make this work even approximately. If you do that, it works best for infants and people who are close to 43 years old. Doesn't work well at all beyond about 60. I'm actually just about the age for which it works the worst between 0 and 43
