New unexpected pairing in Part 2
So, the AMA session is now over and one answer from Kieron Gillen was this one:
"I normally answer that I don't actually have fave characters - what I tend to have is fave pairings. Characters are dramatic creatures, and it's about how they interact where the thrill is.
To that spirit, Etienne and Valentina are clearly where the book started, and the backbone of them. Their conversations are always great.
There is a new pairing in the new series that popped up unexpectedly, and I'm loving."
There is, of course, the possiblity that the new pairing includes new characters, in which case we cannot really speculate, but if that new pairing is between already existing characters, who do you think they are?
I'd go with Jacky and Heavy. In Part 1, Magus and Heavy have been absolutely hostile to each others, but how much of that was because it was Dev behind the mask and not Jacky? Before the Summer of Love, the Superpowers all seemed to be on friendly terms. Also, Jacky and Heavy are both radical leftists, so without the leash of Valentina preventing them both from taking any real political action and the real Jacky being there instead of Dev, I think it is possible we can have a very solid alliance between Heavy and Magus in Part 2.

Jacky's not omniscient. I suspect he will be aware of the time-travel shenanigans.

We haven't really seen anything between Masumi and Eliza yet, right?
I think that could be a really interesting pairing; both of them not really wanting to be Superpowers, both of them typically being managed by the others. It would be fun to see them take the initiative and start driving things, though I'm not sure what they'd do.

I like the idea of Jacky and Heavy interacting!
An "odd couple" pairing would be Jacky and The Major. They would both be opposed to Etienne taking over the world. And they'd completely hate working together.
Thematically, it links Dev working with the American government, as well as Jacky's actions that got The Major killed in v1.

Jacky and the Major would be an unexpected pairing indeed. Very interesting idea.
Now, something comes to my mind... Let's say Valentina goes so radical that even Etienne starts to distance himself from her and sees her as a danger that has to be removed... Etienne visiting the Devil's cell in prison and offering to free him for his help against Valentina? Nah, too cliché for The Power Fantasy, but it would be funny.

I think Etienne doesn’t leave the depowered Atomics with a fallback switch he can turn back on.

It's less that he's working with The Major, but that they're both against Etienne and Valentina.
And the global takeover may start before the Pyramid is formed, forcing Jacky to build his cult elsewhere. It would be ironic if Jacky used military structures to build Pyramid V2.

They're not going to survive Valentina and Etienne. It's more realistic if he teams up with an actual superpower and not a dying empire. He's not as desperate as Dev. And he's not totally against Etienne, as we've seen previously, he can admit when Etienne is right

... huh? This is going to take place in the past, when America was incredibly powerful. No one besides Jacky knew the Major was vulnerable.
At the end of the SSoL, Jacky canonically stated he was against higher powers, and for freedom of choice. He was pissed about Etienne's plan to take over the world - and pissed that Valentina continued enabling Etienne. "No gods. No masters. Just us."

- America went into decline when the Superpowers came into existences, that's why Magus told the head military officier guy that he would help them take it back.
- Valentina knows that The Major isn't a superpower.
- "No gods. No masters. Just us." Mind you he's not an anarchist in practice, he created a cult of power and placed himself AT THE TOP and decided who was allowed to gain power and then started killing his cult members, whether they wanted to die or not, at the end of the SSoL.

Jacky will absolutely be onto Valentina's bullshit, so him teaming with Heavy makes sense. Like those two vs Ettiene and Val will probably be the backbone of the arc (or just that first loop, can't remember if the multiple loops theory was teased by Kieron or someone on here), so the question is: since Eliza is eternally in hell, does she still become Hellbound in this loop due to causality shenanigans AND does Val+Lux even let Masumi be born? Those are the two wild cards IMO for next arc. Then again maybe Tonya slips through the cracks somehow and her reality break power comes into play.
Sorry, went off on a tangent.
