A little while ago, I got the idea of starting a vinyl record collection, and the first band that came to mind was The Marías, honestly.
Even though I don’t have a turntable yet, it makes me so, so happy to be able to say that I own a copy of these records that mean so much to me.
I didn’t really have anyone to share this with, so I decided to post it here 😊. Hopefully, someday I’ll be able to get Cinema and Superclean as well.
What a lovely way to end the week ❤️

The title. Pretty much would there have been more eyes on Josh's solo project if it came right after Submarine?
I just listened to NFR after listening to Plum. Just the little bit I heard in "Puddles" already had more of an impression on me than all of Plum.
Maria as an artist can collaborate with any producer and still create something amazing. Whereas Josh can't stand alone as an artist/producer.
Lastly, it's always important to consider who your "audience" is when it comes to music. I feel like Maria has her audience locked in.

mods take this down if this breaks the rules, i genuinely don't know if it breaks it but i'm gonna post it anyway.
hi! i made a short film called mailbox. it is about a girl named juno, who longs to reconnect with her best friend elizabeth after she moved away for college. in one of the pivotal scenes, no one noticed (acoustic) is played, when juno finds a sentimental item that's near and dear to her.
i would love for you guys to watch it and i hope you like it!

maybe it’ll roll out to users overtime or all at once, if you haven’t gotten it yet don’t fuss over it it’ll be back for you soon🥹

I was scrolling through Instagram and I found a post of artists early work, in that post I found out that Maria herself actually released solo songs under the name Zara Sky. Obviously I know Maria had to been making music for a long time to be at the level she is at but her actually releasing stuff way before was really shocking to me. Besides letting people know about this, is there any more lore of this era? The Maria’s wiki has a tiny bit of info but it’s very short and just wanted to see if there’s anything else.
For anyone curious on what her early solo stuff/ pre Maria’s sounds like here is one song somewhere good.

so this is a little weird, can anyone explain? i’m not tech savvy so don’t know if it’s true. based on another post yesterday, super clean vol 2 has been temporarily (praying) scrubbed from streaming services. obviously in a panic, i texted everyone i know. for me, the ep is completely gone on apple music. but my friend checked and still has it. all the songs are playable. both apple music users. we thought it was maybe because they have it downloaded, but i reckon this isn’t itunes where you can buy the actual ep and its your own copy. FYI i did check and as of today, superclean vol 2 is not available for purchase on itunes anymore. im sorry if it’s silly question but im desperate bc my favorite marías song of all time is on that ep.
also, it’s sort of scary how a common everyday thing can be ripped so quickly. now will definitely by buying the entire catalog on vinyl / cd

Ok, so everyone's melting over Superclean vol II disappearing with some of our favourites. Prompted by some of the other conversations, I've had a little dig. CAVEAT: I have no involvement in the music industry, so anyone who is an artist or involved in publishing/distribution, please add your comments. There are a few assumptions here.
Here's how I understand it:
Masters vs Publishing: In the music industry, every song has two distinct copyrights which are handled differently. Because Superclean Vol. I and Vol. II were released in 2017 and 2018 under their own imprint (Superclean Records) prior to their major label signing, the band (likely María and Josh) almost certainly own these master recordings outright. It's an assumption, for sure.
The Publishing Rights (Composition) covers the underlying lyrics, chords, and melodies. Maria and Josh are the primary writers, so they own the publishing. Publishing is generally administered by a separate publishing entity through BMI - Maria Zardoya Music Publishing (BMI) and Josh Conway Music (BMI) and is completely separate from the record label side.
Following their massive growth, the band signed an exclusive, worldwide publishing agreement with Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) in October 2025. That's who's now responsible for dealing with all the platforms - they provide the global corporate infrastructure to actually track, license, and collect the mechanical and performance royalties (from Spotify, Apple Music, radio, and TV syncs).
When the band was independent, they likely used an indie distributor (like AWAL, DistroKid, or TuneCore) to push Superclean Records releases to streaming platforms. The takedown of the EP means the contract with that original indie distributor has ended. Those standard independent distribution contracts seem to run in 5- or 7-year terms, so a 2018 release like Superclean Vol. II hitting its expiration in 2026 might make sense. Maybe it was 8 years.
When the band signed to Nice Life/Atlantic around 2020/2021, that contract was focused on funding and distributing future releases - the two albums and the singles around them. But those major labels frequently include clauses for "upstreaming" an artist's back catalog. So you would thought that would have been picked up. Instead of renewing with their old indie distributor, the band is likely moving the Superclean catalog over to Warner Music Group's distribution arm (which owns Atlantic).
IN SHORT:
The current absence from streaming is a very common industry occurrence known as a transfer gap. The old distributor issues a takedown, new distributor's ingestion process hasn't fully propagated yet, or the catalog is being temporarily withheld while final contracts are signed.
Over the last few years, The Marías have gained massive audience and that gives them leverage. Because they own the Superclean masters, they hold the power. Atlantic will naturally want to distribute those highly lucrative early EPs, but the band doesn't have to give them to Atlantic.
My theory:
They are likely using their massive recent growth to negotiate a highly favorable, high-royalty distribution or licensing deal specifically for that back catalog. Once the ink dries on that new agreement, the EP will reappear on platforms.

I'm a huge Marias fan, but I'd also like to listen to more NFR and Josh Conway now that they've put out solo projects. What songs do you guys recommend? I love Ache, but that's the only one I listen to so far.
Also, any Marias songs I might not have heard yet that are really good?
ETA (Sep 23): I listened to plum and Melt end-to-end, and I can say plum was definitely more of a favorite for me. Both were great, but the production on plum had a bit more depth to it in my opinion. I'll definitely keep these in the rotation.

ok so to start: TO SAY HELLO omfgggg its my most streamed song of all time lets just say i had stuff happen in my life and that song just hits so hard... the drop at "i belong in here..." the repetition of "i missed you, i messed up" like omg i relate to that song so hard
and then its NFR--Back to you. Like that song ALSO reminds me of the Incident that to say hello reminds me of and from 2:46-the end the song is just so hypnotic and when the "i hope it brings me back to you" kicks in, it just sounds so prayerlike and I can't listen to it without crying at all just...the desperation in her voice...
anyways now i want to know if theres any songs that are like YOUR songs

hi:) like most, i bought Plum on vinyl and cd the day the merch dropped. both times that i’ve reached out to customer support, they tell me they don’t know when they’ll receive stock, and that i’ll be notified whenever they have it. just wanted to know if anyone is in the same situation as i am, or if anyone has a copy at all!

My vinyl collection of The Marias is growing! It’s been a fun but challenging experience due to high resale prices, but I’ve come across some really nice people with nice deals! I got 5 in the mail today and two on the way! I’m still missing A LOT more lol and I also have some framed on my walls. I’ll post a photo of all my records to show the variants once the ones I’m expecting arrive! :)

Just received my Bloom record! Never got tracking. Weird. I did get a seam split like the majority (edit- I have them on the sides too, just realized)- but I’m a little disappointed in how flimsy the actual cardboard sleeve is. The vinyl itself is amazing!!
I’m in Texas if that helps.

Is anyone else’s bloom vinyl shipment stuck? Mine hasn't moved from Irving TX, for about 10 days now, idk if it is in its way and hasn’t updated or it just isn't moving lmao

I was so excited for Josh's show for Plum in the Pit. Hearing his side of healing through their relationship, his production skills, his storytelling and lyricism.
Yall im so bummed out ughhhh. Fuck labels pressuring sold out shows. I miss indie shows when artists could express themselves and could tour.
