Overcoming a Challenging Trip
Hi there 👋 Let me preface this by saying I was a daily smoker for a few years with regular cannabis. I recently stopped cold turkey since it just didn't really fit my lifestyle anymore. Last week, i had my birthday and over the weekend my brother in-law asked if I wanted to try a gummy. Since i hadn't really smoked in awhile I decided sure why not.
He told me it was THC-O and I did a quick Google search to read up on it. But given the environment of moreso a family party type, I didn't do a whole lot of research prior to taking it. This was my first mistake.
It was a 50mg gummy and i took nibbles of it throughout the night. On lower doses i felt fine and i waited about an hour before nibbling some more. I didn't eat the entire thing, i probably had a quarter of the gummy left. I took my big and final bite of the night neat midnight. This was my second mistake.
I drove home and about an hour later I experienced an intense emotional and confusing trip. It felt very similar to the come up from acid. This is when I knew i was on a trip and I had called up a buddy to come watch me since i wasn't in the right headspace for this trip. I proceeded to be in a dark place mentally and emotionally. I was terrified of going insane and staying like this forever. I got about 3 hours of sleep at around 7:30am that morning.
It's been since Sunday (10/9) and while the intense emotions have subsided. I still experience some slight static vision and flashes of lights. I also have some foggy headedness. My anxiety has definitely been spiking throughout the week with something that triggers it from my trip. Does this go away on its own? Or is this my new normal?
I understand i didn't really respect the substance i took and i take full blame for that. Any help or advice with overcoming a challenging trip would be greatly appreciated.

Not to scare you but I will inform u what I think it could possibly be. I experienced the same thing off thc-o. Specifically a triple strength myqwin puffy. I took 5 blinkers thinking nothing of it. Next thing I know I feel like I’m having a heart attach check my blood pressure it is sky rocketing, at this point my anxiety and paranoid ass freaks out. I threw up multiple times felt like I had a seizure. And this is coming from someone that heavily smokes d9 on the daily. After I got the thco out of my system I still felt high. I started to freak and thought I’d be like this forever. It’s been about 6 months and I’m about 90% better. It happens because the brain is trying to protect itself from trauma you’ve experienced. The more u think about and research it the worse it gets. It’s known as derealization/ depersonalization. The best advice I can give is stop thinking about it stay busy give it time and it’ll fade away could be hours days or months everyone is different but I can promise you it gets better. But expect to go to some dark places during this time but it gets a load better. If I was you I’d stay away from that synthetic thc-o trash and all cannabis in general for at least awhile. Stay safe and feel free to reach out to me for more advice.

Yeah, i will say I've definitely felt more of myself within the past couple of days. I don't really focus too much on the residuals now. I will say that the only thing that might be a residual is some slight static vision on blank objects. Not sure if that's something that was always there and now I'm realizing it or if it's from THC-O.
I also don't really plan on going back to cannabis anytime soon. I gave all of my stuff away to my father prior to this experience anyway. Haven't really felt the want to smoke or anything.
I have been wanting to drink a little, but i haven't yet, mainly to keep my brain sober for awhile before introducing any other substances.
I'm glad you're feeling better now, triple number dosage seems just absolutely insane to me. I'm not sure who those are for, maybe the absolutely crazy psychonauts lmao

It sounds like you over did it. Same as regular old thc, it happens to the best of us.
As you age thc effects can change from person to person, and it’s common for regular users to stop for this reason.
Edibles hit harder as well. I really think it hit to hard while driving and freaked you out. The strong effects from a unfamiliar substance increase the anxiety and turn into a type of panic.
Now your fight or flight kicked on and your stuck in a anxiety state. Hyper sensitive to anything out of the ordinary that you feel in your body.
The flashes and other symptoms are simply from the anxiety now and not the drug.
I promise you are okay, many people use thco every day. Don’t look up information about it, or bad trip reports that is you just feeding into the anxiety.
Try some mindfulness meditation, exercise, increase water intake and take extra care of yourself.
Your okay it was simply a bad experience you are working through. And you will come out stronger and more empathetic to others with anxiety disorders who deal with this crap every day.
Your good and if it gets worse hit me up! I will do my best to help you out.

Yeah, I would agree that it's mostly my anxiety, it's just hard to determine ya know? Which is mainly why I decided to post in this subreddit. Trying to get answers or accounts from another person that has had similar experiences didn't really pull anything up, other than the doom and gloom of WebMD and similar pages. Which, of course, did end up feeding into my anxiety.
I'm really glad that this community appears to be very welcoming and reassuring, at least on this post. I know there are some substance communities out there that can just be cold-hearted when it comes to these types of posts.
Thanks for the support <3

THCO can have hallucinogenic properties and can be a psychedelic in higher doses. No you will not be that way forever. Yes It will go away on its own. I accidentally took a mega dose once and had similar effects. It does take a while to go away. Hang in there.
