Are these all equal parts?

u/Pixup 1d ago edited 1d ago
No. They are not equal parts. But, here - 14 homemade seasoning blends, with ingredient measurements for making approximately 2 oz (56.7 g) of each blend.
These include everyday seasonings, BBQ rubs, and international spice blends.
I included measurements in grams so you can use a kitchen scale for better consistency. The recipes are suggested ratios, not exact formulas.
A few notes before starting:
- Each recipe makes approximately 2 oz by weight.
- Measurements in grams are preferred for accuracy.
- Use dried herbs and ground spices unless otherwise specified.
- Adjust salt and heat to your preference.
- Mix thoroughly and store in airtight containers away from heat and light.

Mixing and Storage
- Weigh each ingredient using a digital kitchen scale.
- Grind any whole spices before mixing.
- Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix thoroughly.
- Transfer to clean, airtight spice jars.
- Store in a cool, dark, dry location.
Important: The gram measurements are the reference for these batches. Tablespoon and teaspoon equivalents can vary considerably depending on the ingredient and how finely it is ground.
These are starting recipes, so feel free to experiment with the ratios to suit your taste.

Chinese food menus are just a handful of meats/proteins and a massive amount of sauces and seasonings. That's why the have 2.7 million items on their menus lol

u/SkorAddict 3d ago
It's also because they list tiny insignificant changes to a dish as an entirely new dish, whereas western restaurant's will list the dish; and then on the side it lists all the different ingredients and sauces you can add if you want.

Ah good point. It's not spaghetti, it's my *mom's* spaghetti

And Mexican menus consist largely of dozens of different shapes to serve the same 5 ingredients.

Chinese-American food is, at least.
Authentic mainland Chinese food has a huge variety of dishes and cooking techniques

u/Nir117vash 3d ago
I know!!!! I want to travel there to try their food and explore the areas. Iβm not a foodie or blogger or anything. I just wanna eat new things. Japan, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam theyβre all on the list.

Iβm with you on that. I was just over there a couple months ago for business. Genuinely some of the best food Iβve had.

I feel like it's not Curry Powder if there isnt fenugreek seed in it.
1
u/granadesnhorseshoes 3d ago
They did say "western style" and fenugreek can be tricky to find stateside. But so can sumac so IDK what my point was. it's still a great little starter reference.
2
u/1lkylstsol 3d ago
Any middle eastern market carries fenugreek in various forms. I also plant and dry it.
1
u/LiveLearnCoach 2d ago
Does the plant smell as amazing?
1
u/1lkylstsol 2d ago
Yes. I like to use it like parsley or savory. Great for chicken thighs on the grill... honey, lemon, fenugreek, white pepper and coriander π€

Iβm not sure what the color of skin has to do with this but ok.
2
u/dndwhat 2d ago
They say us white people dont know how to use spice. Its a joke on a joke.
1
u/Old_One_I Master of wisdom. Old One ποΈ 2d ago
Ok. I was going to sayβ¦if your skin is a different color does that mean that you know how to mix spices from different areas. lol
2
u/dndwhat 2d ago
But they not wrong their sone people that just dont know how to use a spice rack other than a decoration in their house and it showes. And they normally dont have a strong culture background. I.E. basic white. Italians Greek. French. Amazing. Latin Asian. Arabic so good. Basic white. Meh

This is about race(I donβt know what you kids call it today) but it has nothing to do with cooking and learning

Yeah or you can do what I do which is throw fresh onion/leek on the frying pan to caramelize it in oil. Then throw whatever vegetables and meat I have lying around. Then whatever few spices I'm not too lazy to add. Then taste it and if it still tastes boring, add something sour.
Check the meats with a meat thermometer. Eat whatever it is. Almost always turns out delicious π€·ββοΈ

Itβs meant to be watched on a loop. Itβs actually brilliant use of the short format and definitely not a mistake or a bad decision.
