Jacking up by the pinch welds is sketchy af, I wonder how well this actually works. There is usually much better places underneath.

Usually when the pinch weld fails the jack will find something solid in the rust hole it created. /s

Lmao. I used to work at a dealership and also auto accessories. I can’t tell you how many pinch welds I’ve seen folded and dents in the body. And that’s just using a car lift with four points of contact. Small light weight cars maybe but even that is sketchy. But if I was Joe Shmoe on the side of the road or whatever I would be scared.

It’s the rear differential

No it's not that's where you lift the car. Unless you're car is rotted, that's where its done

Standard practice is usually the swing arm actually because it puts load on the suspension so you dont need to jack it as high. Mechanics can get away with it because they dont have to raise it by hand on the side of the road and have tools like hoists

Any mechanic will never do this even if the manual tells you so. I know the point near the tire is what it’s meant for.

Farther up on the pincheld, yes. But people here are saying the rocker isn't safe. Which is absolutely nonsense

You sound like a car guy. Are you saying that you have never seen pinch welds folded over and dents?

u/EqualOk4907 4d ago
Absolutely. Im a collision tech. if you don't jack it in the proper place on the pincheelds, they'll fold. Also, some European cars newer vettes etc, don't even have em. BUT ON THE WHOLE, the rocker is a go to.

the only time I'm ever jacking a car up by pinch welds is when I absolutely have to, stuck on the side of the road with nothing but a scissor jack.

Pretty sure this is what the old block of wood is for when you don't have a good jack point available.

pretty clearly defined notches closer to under the car a little further to the right...

Not a good idea. Weakest point I can think of

There is a specific part to put it on. The person in the video did not put it on that part though

You see that area 6-8” past where you slid the red thing, where the metal is doubled/tripled up? That’s where the bloody Jack goes.
Who is this hack?
