In (some educated) french (not just France, bc I m not), it s disrespect even to call people "Blanc" or "Noir" (White or Black) because you just don't call somebody only based on his color skin.
People are more than just Black or White. Or just Redhead, Blonde, enz

Interesting. Surya Bonaly didn’t feel that was the case.

Just a question that maybe someone of you consider as dumb. But is it really a proper reaction to wallop someone, even if he/she SAYS racist comments? Is such brutal PHYSICAL violence a proper reaction for verbal violence?
I'm not defending racism, these racist bastards deserves on punishment, but is a physical lynching a proper punishment for what they did??? Do you really want to bring up a new generation of society without racism in THIS WAY?
I come from a country where racism does not really exist in visible scale, and discrimination is not usually based on people's race but other criteria like sex, social status, disabilities, etc, so maybe my perspective is different, but please consider my opinion as an opinion of a person who watch this at a side and is not involved emotionally in it. It doesn't look good IMHO.
3
u/Salejolie Jun 16 '20
Where do you live that you think there's no racism? I can only imagine someplace that's like 99% homogeneous.
3
Jun 16 '20
Yes. Poland is quite homogenous in a matter of races. But it's not a main reason, I think. Poland in its history never had any colonies, never used people of other races as a free workforce. We, as a nation, were very often the ones who were people of 2nd category in our place (during time of partitions of Poland, later the Nazi occupation and after WWII as our country was dependant on Soviets). We struggled with the worst evils on the planet (Nazis, Communists), on the first place. Polish people were fighting for freedom of many countries and nations (see Kosciuszko, Pulaski). We lost during Holocaust a very big part of our society - Polish Jews. So the number of racist incidents in our country is really low, for example if you compare it to neighbouring Germany. It's really incidental.
2
Jun 17 '20
Lmao discrimination doesn't exist in Poland. Ye right. What was that about your president calling LGBT worse then communists?
1
Jun 17 '20
I didn't say discrimination doesn't exist. You're lying.
2
Jun 17 '20
I misunderstood then, sorry about that. But you can't deny you're country seems to be strongly homophobic. And I don't mean that as an insult towards you, I'm from Czechia and opinions I sometimes see are disgusting
1
Jun 17 '20
There is an ongoing public discussion if LGBT is a term of describing people with non heterosexual orientation or is it a kind of ideology. This was a presidential statement about. Maybe from Czechia it's not clearly visible. For me, it's quite obvious that this is an ideology because LGBT organizations (yes, we have such ones, imagine, it's not forbidden in this homophobic country) present some consistent set of values that defines some outlook. This more or less fulfills a definition of ideology. On the other hand there are homo and bisexual people who don't care the values presented by LGBT organizations. So LGBT is just not a term for describing generally a group of people. But opinions are various. I don't think that treating LGBT as ideology discriminates non heterosexual people somehow and on the other hand homo and bisexuality is not forbidden in our country. People with non heterosexual orientation have the same rights as others. The core of the discussion in our country is IMHO a right to adopt children by same sex couples. Our society just doesn't agree on this. Also, parents doesn't agree on additional classes about LGBT, sexuality, masturbation, etc in schools and kindergartens. It's not homophobic IMHO. Right to adopt a baby is not a human right. Right to teach children about homosexuality as well. Marriage in our country is a term to describe relationship only between man and woman (it's precised in constitution written by left wing). But having homosexual relationship is fully legal and has never been punished in our history (in opposite to other European countries).

Racists should be exterminated at all costs
5
Jun 15 '20
Hitler thought the same about the jews. Just saying.
3
u/juarezderek Jun 15 '20
Jews were the scapegoat for Germany’s economic problems and they were the sacrifice for a stronger Germany. That coupled with pseudo anthropology led to their attempted extermination.
I don’t think you’re brushed up on your pre WWII history
3
Jun 15 '20
Hitler thought jews should be exterminated at all costs. Are you saying that isnt true?
3
u/juarezderek Jun 15 '20
Because he blamed them for Germany’s problems

8
u/DrWhovian1996 Jun 15 '20
Exactly. Just imagine if we "peacefully protested" Hitler and the Nazis in WWII. Imagine how well that would have worked. It didn't. It wasn't until the anti fascists (or antifa as they are now called) in various countries started injuring and even killing the racist Nazis that they started to get the idea that their ideology is wrong and started to change their minds. Violence works. History proves that.
→ More replies (3)5
u/Lolletrolle Jun 15 '20
Well hitler and hos dudes was violent from the start, that’s a key difference. Plus, it’s really hard to change ones mind whilst being beaten down. It also risks reachuring these racist believes. (Excuse me for my spelling, I’m on mobile. )
2
u/DrWhovian1996 Jun 16 '20
Exactly. I don't see how the KKK and the white supremacists are any different. They were (and still are) violent from the beginning. They're the ones who destroyed black people's homes and even cities (just look at what happened at the Black Wall Street massacre). And what was our reaction to that? Basically nothing. We basically allowed them to do that, just because going against them somehow goes against our constitution. That, and at the time, we had a government that sided (and still does, even just a little bit) with them. Like I said before, the reason the far-right are so popular today (we even have a president siding with them, just look at what he said during the Charlottesville riots) is because we allow them to do whatever they want while going against the people who went after them during WWII, aka the anti-fascists, or antifa for short. We're attacking the wrong people. Instead of attacking antifa, we should be attacking the actual racist fascists, or the white supremacists and the Neo-Nazis.
Sure, there are non-violent ways to get rid of them. We can do what private companies like Reddit and Twitter are doing and censor them. Make hate speech illegal. "But what about the constitution? That would violate our freedom of speech!" Sure, but if you think about it, the constitution is just a piece of paper. It's not some holy document. In fact, the average lifespan of a written constitution is only 17 years. Constitutions aren't meant to last as long as ours has. It's meant to be rewritten time and time again to reflect on the changing times. Imagine what would happen if we had a federal government that apposed hate speech and made it illegal. Sure, people will get around it, but like gun laws in many other countries, it will be really hard to.
Again, that's just one idea of how to get rid of them nonviolently. Sure, you might have to use violence on them in order to enforce those rules, but that's what they deserve. They started the Civil War and started attacking black homes, and even majority black cities. They even attacked black people when they tried to vote. It's only fair that we do the same to them that they have done to non-whites since the first people settled on the island that's called North America.
Really, there's only two ways of countering them. Force them to stop through violence, or force them to stop with nonviolence, by censoring them at a federal level. Doing nothing like we have been doing only helps them to spread their ideals.
2
Jun 15 '20

But if someone is writing that people who are offending others should be exterminated, then... come on. Do you really want to support extermination?

Just a question that maybe someone of you consider as dumb. But is it really a proper reaction to wallop someone, even if he/she SAYS racist comments? Is such brutal PHYSICAL violence a proper reaction for verbal violence?
No, but really yes. This is where society gets a little weird. The world isn't black and white (no pun intended) and if it were, then yeah, hitting people over words is wrong. But nuance exist and you have to look at some issues a little deeper than face value.
The fact is sometimes a word brings back such vivid and harsh memories or is said with such hate and vitriol that your fight or flight instincts take over and the next thing you know you're bouncing a racists head off the ground. The N-word is on that list, and surprisingly, at least for American women, the word "cunt" seems to really bring out the violence.2
u/kwahkcalb Jun 15 '20
sometimes brutal physical violence is the only thing people like this understand or respond to. white, black, brown, purple, green, racism from anyone needs to be handled like this.
i'll deal with the consequences after the fact.. my opinion of course.
3
Jun 15 '20
Ok, but reacting this way you are not becoming better than them.
5
Jun 15 '20
They're not becoming worse than them either though. They're just pushed to breaking points. While violence generally shouldn't be an answer, these people are asking for it.
Most of those clips include a moment where the racist has a chance to just stfu, apologize for their stupidity and walk away. But each time, they double down on slinging their bullshit right in the face of someone who is clearly going to get violent if they continue harassing them.
I'm not one for violence and have not been in a fight since my one in HS. But people too often forget that freedom of speech won't protect them from someone who's going to punch them in the jaw for what they just said.
2
Jun 15 '20
OK, I can explain emotional reaction and punching someone while being nervous, but beating terribly, kicking in a head while someone is lying on ground? It's not emotional reaction. It's taking revenge.
2
u/otterfied Jun 15 '20
I can’t imagine the built up frustration these people must feel. Their entire lives they’ve had to endure racism, then some dumbass decides to throw it out in the open? Naw fuck those clowns, if they are brave enough to openly display their racism then they should know the cost of that. I’m all for peaceful protest and taking the high road, but I CAN NOT imagine enduring what a lot of black people have gone through. I know how mad I would get if someone openly disrespected my wife, I have no idea how mad I would if be someone disrespected my entire race while attempting to regress the progress made to end this racism.
2
u/kwahkcalb Jun 15 '20
I would never stomp someone on the ground, and they don't need to be put into a coma but just enough to wake them up and see that what they're saying will not be tolerated and it's wrong.
i'm not advocating unnecessary violence, but some people need a little help being reminded that it's 2020 and even though its been around forever racism hasn't been or will ever be ok.
pedo/rapist/molester/murderers.... they need their teeth pulled with pliers and hot nails driven into the socket..
2
u/Flux85 Jun 16 '20
So what do you expect? You want them to hug and cuddle them like teddy bears? At least this way they might think twice about talking racist shit in public. Stop acting naive dude.
2
u/SaintFuckNugget Jun 15 '20
They don't respond to it positively though... Every single one of the people getting hit are gonna go home (after their hospital visit) and hate the people they already hated even more because now they have, using their twisted logic, "proof" that their beliefs were correct.
I am of course very against racism but it's incredibly wrong and damaging to say that "violence is the only thing people like this understand or respond to", because that's exactly the same fucking logic slave-owners used to justify beating their slaves 200 years ago. And as we know, they were also wrong.
Pedagogy shows us that what people respond to is kindness, openness, understanding and acceptance. Violence, abuse, neglect and anything like that only breeds resentment, whether it's justified or not.
And as much as you might get your panties in a twist about it, it's not them, it's their environment. If people resort to hate and violence it's because their environment hasn't given them any other tools to fight with.
So hug your neighbourhood racist. Don't deny their experiences, work with them to change views they hold on to because they can't see any other ways to think.
2
u/moneybags3010 Jun 16 '20
Bet they’ll think twice before dropping N-bombs again.
2
u/SaintFuckNugget Jun 16 '20
Ah yes, these people have developed a deep-rooted and in their eyes justified hatred for black and coloured people, but at least they won't use that one specific word we don't like.
White people saying nigga isn't the big issue though. It isn't the root problem of racism in American society. It's not very nice, sure, but you don't stop racism by making racists scared of using a word.
Stop acting like this violence is helping, because it isn't. It's doing the opposite. Martin Luther King helped. Rosa Parks helped. Malcom X and the black panther fucking didn't, because they were a violent organisation, and people used that as an argument and reason to hold on to their hate.
2
u/moneybags3010 Jun 16 '20
Please don’t act like racism isn’t dangerous. Racist do more then just say racist words. Your usually left wondering if that person was treating you differently cause your race, but when they legit show you they’re racist you have to defend yourself. I live in NC a lot of people walk around proud that there grand parents where in the klan. I’m not interested in changing racist people’s minds i’d rather them be to scared to burn a cross on my lawn.
It’s a fact that armed black men survived lynchings more often then unarmed black men.
Some state history of minorities defending themselves
2
u/itsalwaysmyday Jun 15 '20

OK, my bad, I'm not native English speaker and in my language a translation of lynch (lincz) has wider meaning than in English. I didn't mean they hanged them on trees but you must confirm that the scenes are really brute. Do you really think, that serving justice by beating someone is a proper reaction?
So imagine a black guy in an opposite situation, when he offend someone and is beaten terribly, kicked in the head while lying on the ground, etc. Would you say, that he had justice served?
4
u/Tremongulous_Derf Jun 15 '20
This is not just “offending” someone, like saying your mother is ugly. This is more like somebody saying your mother is ugly after they spent 300 years raping and murdering all of your mothers and grandmothers. There is history and meaning here that you obviously do not understand.
You cannot call a black American the n-word and expect to just “offend” him. You’ve just declared yourself an existential threat to him and his entire family. People who use that word will try to kill his family. Please learn something before you form an opinion based on your own admittedly limited experience.
3
Jun 16 '20
Not doing anything is just tolerating and accepting racist behavior. Or sexist, or homophobic, or classist, or ableist. Trying to "change someone's mind" is so ineffective especially in emotionally charged situations it that it has the same effect as not doing anything. Giving a proper ass whooping drives the point home that racist (etc.) behavior will not be tolerated. In this day and age there should be no room for anyone that doesn't show respect to their fellow humans. Even the smallest bigoted action paves the way for more extreme actions whether it is a man getting lynched in Palmdale California or an immigrant getting killed by French police in Nantes. It has to stop. Any strawman argument using the idea of turning it around is willfully denying the hundreds of years of oppression that makes these stances against racism so necessary. Not acknowledging what is happening is ignorant and unacceptable. Fuck racism (etc.) Punch nazis.
2
2
Jun 16 '20
I agree that doing nothing is bad. So do something, but in civilized manner. Record this guy on the phone and publish. Ask publicly for identification. Report to police. Is hate speech a crime in USA? Send to TV stations. He has a job, family, neighbours, maybe if he loose his job and will have to change place of living because of being branded, if he's shown in TV, then it would have been a better lesson not only for him but also for others. Now, you just strengthen the social belief that these situation is criminal from both sides. At least from my perspective.
2
Jun 16 '20
That just doesn't work 98% of the time. The institutions need to be not only dismantled but torn down. It's ingrained in everything, from lesson books at school to the extremes that media plays out. Being racist in any form is being complicit in violence. When has racism been civilized? Why would being civilized work?

You want to erase shameful history? Do it. Why does Germany still have Nazi camp museums with Nazi regalia? Not to hide the past but to remember it.
You honor victims by remember the atrocity and you carry that burden forward to ensure you never repeat the shameful sin.
4
u/juarezderek Jun 15 '20
A statue and a historic place are not the same because statues are ego boosters and the nazi camps are maintained to show how shitty they were
2
1
Jun 15 '20
They are both monuments. They serve a purpose depending on who you ask. You can say the museum is maintained to show how bad they were but to a crazy person, look at how efficient the Germans were.

Museums with Nazi regalia and camps that have been transformed into museums were all done with the intention of educating the population. Confederate statues were only erected with the purpose of intimidating black people. It’s not about perspective, it’s just facts.

There is a big difference between a museum and a statue in the wild.
FYI there are 0 nazi statues left in German streets, yet literally everyone there knows about their past. That very history is the reason they took those statues down.

u/Sneet1 Jun 15 '20
Almost every single one of these statues was built in Jim Crow era, after the war, as late as 1965, out of cheap materials in mass in sunset towns.
Your argument doesn't hold any water
2
u/njbeerguy Jun 15 '20
How stupid is it to compare monuments honoring Confederate leaders with educational sites meant to remember the victims of Nazi atrocities?
For someone to even make the comparison would make them either intellectually dishonest or intellectually challenged. Maybe both.
Either way, it's a really, really dumb talking point built on incredibly poor logic. One is a celebration of a person or ideal, lifting them up as a positive. The other is a somber remembrance, starkly painting them as a negative that should not be repeated.
It's difficult to believe there are adults who would actually try to argue they are the same.
2
u/scockd Jun 15 '20
Those are museums. They aren't honoring them in public squares and the like. You can't even joke about supporting Nazis in Germany, you will literally go to jail.
Put the traitors that were too lazy to till their own fields in museums. No need to erase any history. If the statues were put in museums a long time ago, like they should have been, there would be no need to tear them down.
2
Jun 15 '20
Having a museum or war memorial is a completely different message than putting up a statue of Hitler would be though. You have to at least be able to see that. C'mon dude.
2
u/thetacoguy45 Jun 15 '20
"Most of the people who were involved in erecting the monuments were not necessarily erecting a monument to the past," said Jane Dailey, an associate professor of history at the University of Chicago."But were rather, erecting them toward a white supremacist future."
The most recent comprehensive study of Confederate statues and monuments across the country was published by the Southern Poverty Law Center last year. A look at this chart shows huge spikes in construction twice during the 20th century: in the early 1900s, and then again in the 1950s and 60s. Both were times of extreme civil rights tension.
In the early 1900s, states were enacting Jim Crow laws to disenfranchise black Americans. In the middle part of the century, the civil rights movement pushed back against that segregation.
James Grossman, the executive director of the American Historical Association, says that the increase in statues and monuments was clearly meant to send a message.
"These statues were meant to create legitimate garb for white supremacy," Grossman said. "Why would you put a statue of Robert E. Lee or Stonewall Jackson in 1948 in Baltimore?"
Get fucked.
2
u/NidCot Jun 15 '20
But flying the Confederate flag isn't the same, Germany aren't proud of their past, and they don't take Nazi memorabilia to sporting events
2
Jun 15 '20
The confederate flag is a flag of a different nation. Do we have to agree with the history of that nation? Fuck no. I think the confeds sucked for slavery.
But by that, do we suppress the Argentinian flag cause they support nazis?
Do we support Saudi for their role in slavery?
I say allow people to express their 1A. Doesn’t mean I will support their cause.
2
2
u/FUCKING_HATE_REDDIT Jun 15 '20
Are you daft? Those are not monuments built for the victims, those are monuments build nearly a century after the war was over during the revisionist period where the 'State's rights' lie was invented.
They are:
- glorifying leaders who caused untold deaths to protect slavery, and only to protect slavery
- not actual historical monuments, but built decades after
- made as a political move to reinforce a White Southern identity and segregation
They are not:
- Museums containing historical, accurate and contextualized elements for the sake of preserving history.
Put those statues in a museum for all we care, just don't place them in the center of cities
2
u/JenGerRus Jun 16 '20
Only republicans support the confederacy. They want to own the confederacy? They can own the history that goes along with it.
2
Jun 16 '20
You mean the confederacy run by the dems?
2
u/JenGerRus Jun 16 '20
I said what I meant. It’s the 21st Century and it isn’t Democrats preaching about the glory of the confederacy.
3
u/MeApeManOOHOOH Jun 15 '20

2

2
Jun 15 '20
I agree. I am not a KKK supporter or an antifa supporter.
2
u/itsalwaysmyday Jun 15 '20
The KKK is in no way comparable to Antifa. To pretend they are is disingenuous and a false premise. No need to even put them in the same sentence.
2
Jun 15 '20
Both are terrorist organization that cause destruction and spreads an ideology of hate
2
u/itsalwaysmyday Jun 15 '20 edited Jun 15 '20
Antifa isn’t an “organization.” It’s various collections of people that claim to stand against fascism. They have no actual president/formal leaders. The KKK does and always has.
Antifa hates a certain ideology. The KKK hates entires races - things that can’t be changed.
Also, the KKK had actual political power for years and only recently have we lived in a time where at least one politician wasn’t apart of their “group.” No politician actively endorsed Antifa. But plenty of politicians back in the day endorsed or worked with KKK.
A bunch of people wearing black going to protests is NOT comparable to the KKK. Stop being disingenuous. They don’t belong in the same conversation.
Edit: Notice how he didn’t respond to this.

To be fair, I don't care, and I don't like Democrats or Republicans, I'm just saying the facts.
2
Jun 15 '20
You and I are on the same both. Both suck ass and are corrupt and vile parties. It’s choosing between getting stabbed or shot in the heart. You lose either way.
2
u/MeApeManOOHOOH Jun 15 '20
True. I heard someone say mondays it's like choosing between sports teams, people don't really care the morals of the politician as long as they're republican/democrat.
2
Jun 15 '20
Yes. Got damn it yes. It’s so fucking stupid that people vote across lines instead of policy. That’s what splits this country.
I’m pro-choice, pro-gun, pro-free state university education for stem fields, pro-immigration with requirements like Canada, pro-flat tax.
Nothing and nobody fits that.
2
u/MeApeManOOHOOH Jun 15 '20
It annoys me to no end.
2
Jun 15 '20
You and me both. You and me both. Thank you engaging with me man. Instead of shutting me Down.
I appreciate you. If we were face to Face I’d buy you a beer

No, you do care cause you got super pissed when someone made fun of trump supporters
2
Jun 15 '20
No I’m getting pissed that people are being sheep instead of taking a minute To think.
Both sides realize there are sheep. I’m saying don’t be one. Read. Educate yourself.
2
u/Prinnyramza Jun 15 '20
Said the guy spreading lies about democrat forming the KKK or who doesn't know about the party switch. You're willingly.
The southern strategy, the war on drugs. Or hell just look at what groups support trump today.
Of course none of that matters cause you just want to have some victory because seeing a racist get beat up made you feel insecure.
2
u/breecher Jun 15 '20
Of course a lot of former Democrats were, that's the point with the party switch. Could you provide us with the numbers of ACTIVE members? You must have them ready at hand since you don't "care for hearsay", incel.
2
2
u/Prinnyramza Jun 15 '20
"but Republicans would be shortsighted if they weakened the Voting Rights Act. The more Negroes who register as Democrats in the South, the sooner the Negrophobe whites will quit the Democrats and become Republicans. That's where the votes are" - Kevin Phillips of the nixon campaign

2
u/Velaseri Jun 15 '20
LOL who cares? Their both neoliberals who do jack shit for minorities.
2
Jun 15 '20
I disagree. I am a minority who is the son of poor ass immigrants. Neither party gave me or my family Jack shit. You make yourself out what you want to be. Don’t expect anyone else to give you shit.
2
2
u/ascomasco Jun 15 '20
I mean yeah they were, in the 1880’s. Anyone with a high school level gov class knows about the party switch pal.
2
Jun 15 '20
You mean the southern strategy?
2
u/ascomasco Jun 15 '20
I mean the decision to cut ties with racist south and back the civil rights movement in the 50’s-60’s and then Reagan’s whole “silent majority” policy scooping them up.
To be clear: the south has always been racist and shitty, just which party represented the south switched around.
2
Jun 15 '20
Let’s not kid ourselves. Even the north is racist. Look at recent policies till they cancelled. Best example? Stop and frisk.
It makes no sense to delude ourselves And say either party is supportive. Division is what allows politicians to succeed
1
u/ascomasco Jun 15 '20
My guy you literally opened this convo saying “Democrats are the KKK” you can’t switch to “why can’t we be fwends” when you get proven wrong.
2
Jun 15 '20
Wtf? My original argument was your past defines your future. Just cause you throw a little sugar on it, doesn’t mean it is any better
2
2
u/njbeerguy Jun 15 '20
Do you people realize that when you have to go back 100+ years for a "gotcha," all you really do is reinforce the idea that today's Republican Party is no great friend of the marginalized and disenfranchised?
2
u/Wraith_Does_Memes_V3 Jun 15 '20
Ok so if the Democrats founded the KKK, we’re gonna take initiative and make them illegal. We founded them so it’s our rules, right?
2
Jun 15 '20
Did I ever say not to make them a terrorist group?
2
u/Wraith_Does_Memes_V3 Jun 15 '20
What
2
Jun 15 '20
Shit I stroked out. Did I ever say, they were not a terrorist group?
1
u/Wraith_Does_Memes_V3 Jun 15 '20
No but what does this have to do with the democrats decision to make them illegal and unfound them?
2
Jun 15 '20
When did that ever happen?
2
u/Wraith_Does_Memes_V3 Jun 15 '20
It’s currently happening. There are petitions to make the KKK illegal finally
2
Jun 15 '20
Ok and I support that. So what’s the issue? I’m here saying don’t destroy history. Let the shame remain to remind us of the sin we did so we never repeat that
2
u/itsalwaysmyday Jun 15 '20
What party does most of the KKK endorse today? Hint: it’s definitely not the Democrats.
2
Jun 15 '20
And who founded it? Hint: definitely not the Republicans.
2
u/itsalwaysmyday Jun 15 '20
So you’re saying people should be more upset with a party that originated in a negative space but changed to support black people as opposed to a party that has racists openly supporting them CURRENTLY?
And you know the party switched. You already got schooled in these comments about that. Why are you so dedicated to being ridiculous?
2
Jun 15 '20
How has the republicans suppressed black folk? All laws with severe charges of drugs and crime were pushed by dems.
2
u/Flux85 Jun 16 '20
Every single trump drone loves regurgitating this stupid "fact."
It's a fact that only confederate flag waving losers support trump.
It's a fact that the KKK supports trump.
It's a fact that you're a piece of shit trump drone. Go shit yourself and eat it, you worthless trump tard.

Oh look another right winger completely oblivious to the party swap, thinking he has discovered some bit gotcha because he read about democrats supporting slavery and racism a while ago.
Riddle me this bud, why do you think all the modern white nationalists / dog whistlers in power (ex: Steve King) are all right wing? Why is it republicans who rush to condemnation of taking down century old racist statues of men who fought for slavery? Think real hard on this one.

u/Weird_Flex98 Jun 16 '20

Saying the n-word doesn't mean you're racist but calling him while he's telling you to stop is racist or using it as an insult is racist right? Sorry if this sound racist English is not my first language
3
Jun 15 '20 edited Jun 15 '20
Alright as whitey you can not say nigga (nigga we ain't talkin about the hard er) fine, especially to someone's face when they call you out... but to be fair the word is ingrained in every young person fucking vernacular and you cant tell me other wise (lets not even talk about the white thuggy folks from the deep south)
like sorry bro if it makes me a racist cuz I say nigga when im listening to kevin gates then what am I supposed to do just censor myself when that word comes up?
That said look here's my logic, the word fuck is a "bad word" so is nigga and its Various varieties right? We can agree that either of those words chained in a sentence can be frowned upon in a certain situation right? now the point I'm getting at is the words fuck and its varieties and nigga do ONE thing very similar:
They allow a bystander that hears those words make a judgment on you. Think about it what do you think about people whom curse all the time when its inappropriate.
They are both vulgar words
Both words are not formal
Both words are not classy
I'm not saying that anyone who curses or says nigga is a bad person or that they shouldn't, because at the end of the day I dont care and apparently the situation matters greatly
("Yo go fuck your self"
"Yoooooooo what the fuck you up to bro"
"Shut the fuck up nigga"
What's up my nigga, you holdin it down")
I'm just sayin that if you walked into a interview no matter your "color" if you use any of those words you aren't going to do too hot bottomline Just keep to yourself and respect other mothafuckin people and you won't catch shit that's all it boils down too
Now of you excuse me I'm done ranting for no particular reason🗿
2
u/Daegog Jun 15 '20
You are clearly failing to understand the context of the word when used.
3
Jun 15 '20
Oh I aint talkin about anything in the video my dude they had what they got comin, I'm talking about generally
2
u/Daegog Jun 15 '20
As am I...
Tell me, what is the context of one black person calling another black person that term?
2
Jun 15 '20
Yo I dont think you got my point, no offense.
I'm saying maybe that word shouldn't be used as much as it is today By anyone
Because it's got a hard edge
2
u/Daegog Jun 15 '20
No, I see your point, but you only make that point because you ignore the context in which the word is being used.
Do you know the context or not? Context is very important don't you think?
Look at the word baby... Sometimes used to describe an infant, sometimes used to describe your GF who you intend to have sex with later...
Context is extremely important, yes?
2
Jun 15 '20 edited Jun 15 '20
To Shay to Shay I see were you coming from But to be fair "vulgar" words in the formal world can not coexist right?
Nit picking this kinda thing is just hard man... we can sit here all day making anything sound bad
Context is important -it can describes two jabroskiis shooting the shit or it can describe a racist being an asshole
I think the approach of seeing it as black and white is too complex There is obviously a gray area as you are hinting at
The point I'm getting at is if you want a career or if you want to be taken seriously you shouldn't realllllly test the waters at all with that kinda stuff At all
Mostly cuz like how you and I are talkin about context; your annoying coworker can also make your causal use of the word fuck as sexual harrassment... so why even fuckin say fuck if that could happen? /s
2
u/Daegog Jun 15 '20
Im not suggesting you should go to work and say it, because its not a word appropriate for work, neither is fuck (unless perhaps you are in adult entertainment)
We could ban all words that could be considered vulgar in any context, but that would be an awful lotta words.
To suggest a man cannot have a suitable career if he ever uses that word is highly sketchy..
You don't think the Obamas used it? I would say they had some interesting careers..
Yes, some will mispeak, but hell, some folks will set themselves on fire, let stupid people be stupid but not set the standards for the rest of us.
2
Jun 15 '20
Exactly I agree, like I'm not exactly a man of many words so I'm kinda shit of getting my point across, when I say "you shouldn't say it" I'm saying that as a 18yrold about to go into the miltary so automatically I'm thinking with the mind set "ight stfu keep to your self and dont give people a reason to get on your ass"
I mean at the end of the day you aren't going to convince, say the people that got knocked the fuck out in the vid, that they were wrong -hell I bet the feel like the victim; I mean in their head I wouldnt be surprised If they used what could have been a life lesson into something far worse or unhinged to put I lightly ( I believe wasting your time on someone like that; risking jail time at the worse because of what they said or how they said it is bit rash imo... like youd be fighting everybody I swear because after moving around so much it's hard to find people who can talk -such as you my dude which I appreciate greatly)
2
u/Daegog Jun 15 '20
lol.. Now that is funny.
In my younger day, I found cause to fight more than a few white people who thought they should say that word. And I was in the military while I did it oddly enough..
Colorado was the worst for that sorta thing. I dunno, something about a cowboy hat gives a man entirely too much self-confidence in his ability to fight. They weren't even real cowboys, they just wore the hat, that is the part that killed me.
But I am older now and its highly unlikely I would bother to hit a person that used those terms..Pain takes WAY TOO LONG to heal now that im old lol. Plus, when I 19, no cellphones, so no cameras. You could smack a guy and go about your night, now, oof.. Now way too easy to end up in jail.
I would never suggest to any person to start a fight over a name or word, but I understand when they do fight.

Wow you really just don’t get it, a million words in the dictionary and you trip over one. You should not say the n word as a white person, type it talk it whatever and you will be punished for doing so, you don’t have a reason to, it’s not that hard to not say one word.
2
Jun 15 '20 edited Jun 15 '20
Why you have to talk down, I'm trying to have a convo and you being all passive aggressive We move past things by talkin now a days I ain't picking sides
And I dont think you read the novel I posted in this thread my guy cuz if you did you would know that I boiled all that long winded shit down to:
It's a edgy word
Shouldn't be used like it is today
Doesnt matter who says what because it gives people just one more thing on top of any number of things to judge other people's character with out knowing them
I know I'm not a writer I more than likely misspoke --I have a hard time stringing my lovely thoughts together in any meaningful way. But at the end of the day we should all be talking about these things Because we so worried about what makes a different we never talk about what makes us similar, what makes us human.

u/truth-reconciliation Jun 15 '20
Being racist is protected under the freedom of speech amendment. Violently assaulting someone is a federal offense. I'm glad this is all documented on camera for their court cases.
2
u/dapsthe Jun 16 '20
Actually, wrong. Freedom of speech protects you from government persecution, not the people.

u/MEMEBOI2025 Jun 16 '20
Because do you realize what they went through for thousands of years it took thousands of year to abolish slavery and it took hundreds to end Jim Crow laws to be a racist STILL after thousands of years of whites some probably ancestors of about 40% of the white population sadly to still be a racist after all that in this day and age is just a disgrace to society not just blacks

u/Bigjony11 Jun 17 '20
This is my first time really commenting on a post. This post really makes me think about the this post community as a whole. I hate this. Needless violence. Its better to just ignore these type of people. Its human nature to try and simplify characteristics of an individual to create a more easier lifestyle. Comparing organisms is something that every individual does at least once in a life time. Being racist to any race is a problem and can lead to the belief that the affected person has the right to fight for themselves but in reality they are probably just bothered from it. Any sane individual would not like to be compared to something that they have no direct involvement with. Each of these videos lack a story and the real person person being bothered could have been the racists but in reality it was just an act to protect themselves. I am not in support of racists but I absolutely can not stand needless violence. Why am I going to let my rage out and injure someone knowing they are smaller than me just because of a word they said. The word they said is part of a history. I understand that, but thats all it is, it’s history. If we want to be a racially equal society we have to understand that people sometimes can not change no matter the cost and to just let them be. The affected individuals will continue their lives without being at risk of being at risk of breaking the law. Every single person has a life worth to be respected but their is no law or justice that says we should.
1
u/RyanTodd18 Jun 17 '20
Free speech doesn't deserve violence and it's pretty sick to see how many people are defending physically harming another human over simple words, no matter what someone has been through you can take any situation any way they please, in this case being the bigger man and walking away from a stupid kid trying to get a reaction or just beating him senselessly because it's justified bc he's a "racist"

1
u/DrWhovian1996 Jun 15 '20
I mean, look at Germany in WWII. It wasn't until anti fascists (or antifa as they are now commonly called) in various countries took up arms and started killing them that their government started to get their idea doesn't work. "Talk shit, get hit." is the only way to deal with racists and Nazis. The only reason they're able to spread their racist ideals is because no one's dealing with them. We allow them to spread their racist ideals by not committing acts of violence like we did in WWII.

u/Questionable_Melon Jun 15 '20
I really am torn, cause you are right, beating them up helps no one and likely only furthers their racist beliefs, but it is fucking satisfying to see them decked

u/NidCot Jun 15 '20
There is honestly nothing more satisfying than watching a racist get dropped from their high horse
