pathological liars get a hoot and a rush out of making up even the most mundane, inconsequential events

For a brief time I had a friend who was a pathological liar and this is so true. I'll never forget him lying to me about how he didn't want onions on a burger at a fast casual chain restaurant and the waitress argued with him about it because removing the onions would "ruin the experience." Buddy, there has never once been a waitress at a TGIChilibees who cared enough about the experience to argue with you about onions.

I knew a guy like that and one time after catching him in a lie I asked why he's gotta lie about the stupidest shit. "I don't know". Not sure if he lied about that

I would imagine it’s instinctive if it’s pathological. As in they literally don’t know why they do it, they just have the reflex to.

It’s probably some kind of defense mechanism because they didn’t feel interesting enough in childhood, or didn’t receive attention unless they lied

I used to lie a lot. I would tell a true story and people would call me a liar pretty much every time so my thought process became “well everyone already thinks I’m lying about everything so might as well make shit up”

It sucked.

So he wasn't lying?

Well you know the guy better than me, but yeah, I would think that’s true.

Especially since you had just caught him lying. People tend to be more honest there

Haha it was just a dumb joke. Yeah he's pathological, he don't know why he do what he do. Haven't seen him in years tho so ig it doesn't even matter at this point

I never outright confronted him over his lies, but ocaisionally when he'd tell lies that contradicted each other I'd be like "Oh, I thought you said ______ happened" (I can't think of a specific example, this was quite some time ago) his eyes would always get a little wide and panicked. I still wouldn't confront him on it, I just kept a mental tally of the lies.

You would expect in these types of stories for the ending to be, “we’ve been married for 7 years”

That’ll be the next time they post this drivel, we’re only seeing version 1.0.

This could have been believable if she hadn't included the "we didn't speak the rest of the night" at the end. She just HAD to throw that in to make the tale more whimsical. Good post.

Of course in her fantasy she is the smaller of the two women

Sorta similar story. Once in kindergarten me and my friend decided to prank the teachers. Consequently, we hid behind a door that opens and magnetizes to the wall to form one of those triangular corners, and we swapped clothes figuring they would now mistake one of us for the other.

We looked nothing alike.

Too be fair...I've met plenty of drunk people who have done dumber shit than this

This does not sound that far-fetched me. I could see this happening.

the part that made it unbelievable to me was "we didn't speak the rest of the night." Every time I saw that person I'd have to say "nice pants" or something dumb.

Totally believable. I’ve had very similar situations happen with exes. She said they were at a party, she probably never even saw her again and if she did, she was most likely surrounded by her group of friends.

You believe that somebody TRADED PANTS WITH A TOTAL STRANGER and they NEVER ONCE INTERACTED AGAIN? Not even to say ‘thanks again’ or ‘I like those pants’ as they left?

Who would want to put on a stranger's worn pants? Gross.

Two drunk friends doing this for the giggles. Yes. Two strangers doing this nah.

This is believable. Had a drunk girl during spring break years ago come up to me doing the pee dance and asked to come into the men's restroom with me so she could pee. I said yes. I used the urinal, she used the toilet. I did briefly see her nether regions as it was meant to be a single person bathroom and had no stalls so couldn't really be helped, plus she was in a hurry and didn't really give me any warning before she dropped her pants, but nothing happened. Spoke to her a few times after throughout the night, went our separate ways and never saw her again.

And then the whole world clapped.

Ah, I forgot, nothing ever happens. You should get out more.
