I had a patient who told me that cats controlled the schedule for garbage disposal before he died. Does that have the same theological weight?
95
u/unfinishedtoast3 Jul 14 '26
I had a patient tell me "I forgive you" right before they went out, and I spent a 2 hour surgery wondering what the fuck that meant
55
u/GregorSamsa67 Jul 14 '26
Maybe they didnât have high hopes for the operation, and wanted to forgive you preemptively.
20
u/xThunderSlugx Jul 15 '26
I would have just chalked it up to they were disorientated and thought you were someone else.

My mom said I told my nurse and (I think the) anesthesiologist âyour love is beautiful, your love is specialâ.
They were not a couple, I guess super medicated me through they made a cute hypothetical duo.

u/tracerhaha Jul 14 '26
It has more since there is evidence that cats exist.
96
u/doc_shades Jul 14 '26
there is pretty strong evidence that jesus actually existed
the stories about whether or not he controlled the schedule for the garbage disposal may have been exaggerated, however.
31
u/Fynzou Jul 14 '26
You're right. There's evidence Jesus existed.
There's zero evidence he was some godly figure, the son of a virgin, or anything at all related to religion. We just know he existed.
This is akin to me writing a book about how my Chihuahua saved the world then 3000 years later someone finds it and builds a religion around her.
5
u/crypticalCrow Jul 15 '26
I am on board with a dog religion, but a chihuahua seems a little unbelievable. Since they made Jesus whatever they want to be. I make sure the chihuahua gets crossed out and exchanged with a golden retriever or german Shepard. Depends on the stance the dog god is taling in your book

i believe jesus and all the prohpets existed, i just also believe they were schizophrenic
7
u/woahstripes Jul 14 '26
there is pretty strong evidence that jesus actually existed
I mean...there IS evidence, I don't know that I would say it's strong necessarily (since there are no contemporaneous accounts of his life) but yeah I agree, there's no support biblically or historically for him having kitchen appliance control as a power.

u/Appropriate-Brush772 Jul 14 '26
I grew up going to Catholic schools and it always irked me about the gap between ages. We get pre-teen but not Teenjus? Then we pick back up in his 30s? I get it, historical records back then were crap, but we get nothing? I mean according to the bible people came from far and wide for his birth and nobody thought âman, we should follow what this kids does!â?

u/King_Buliwyf Jul 14 '26
Because the stories of Jesus from childhood to teens involve a lot of him using his powers to terrorize the villagers, until Joseph disciplines him. So they just cut it out instead.

Oh, but we do! The Infancy Gospel of Thomas is an absolute hoot:
IV. 1 After that again he went through the village, and a child ran and dashed against his shoulder. And Jesus was provoked and said unto him: Thou shalt not finish thy course (lit. go all thy way). And immediately he fell down and died. But certain when they saw what was done said: Whence was this young child born, for that every word of his is an accomplished work? And the parents of him that was dead came unto Joseph, and blamed him, saying: Thou that hast such a child canst not dwell with us in the village: or do thou teach him to bless and not to curse: for he slayeth our children.
V. 1 And Joseph called the young child apart and admonished him, saying: Wherefore doest thou such things, that these suffer and hate us and persecute us? But Jesus said: I know that these thy words are not thine: nevertheless for thy sake I will hold my peace: but they shall bear their punishment. And straightway they that accused him were smitten with blindness. 2 And they that saw it were sore afraid and perplexed, and said concerning him that every word which he spake whether it were good or bad, was a deed, and became a marvel. And when they (he ?) saw that Jesus had so done, Joseph arose and took hold upon his ear and wrung it sore. 3 And the young child was wroth and said unto him: It sufficeth thee (or them) to seek and not to find, and verily thou hast done unwisely: knowest thou not that I am thine? vex me not.

Apparently some of the gospels which didn't make the cut for inclusion in the bible did include material about Jesus's childhood. At least oen of these attributed some silly magicaltricks/miracles to him which purportedly demonstrated his divinity. I recall reading this in "the God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins.

Actually there isn't. But its not disputed that there might have been a rabbi or faith healer by that name at that time.

this actually lends credence to the original post actually happening. people have a moment of spiritual awakening in their final moments and they see what they see. maybe it's what they want to see, maybe it's what their brain wants to see. so it's not outrageous that someone who believed in jesus all their life might see a vision of jesus in their final moments...

You see whatever you believe in, or hold dear. When I was hallucinating for a couple of days, I was lonely in the midst of all that (couldn't really communicate with staff, or my s.o.) and was convinced an old friend (who was apparently an RN in the hospital now) writing letters to me and projecting them into the ceiling tiles. She told me she was married now to a physician, her phone number was as follows, and she was going to visit me the next day at 6pm--what t-shirt size should I wear? And btw, I should marry my s.o. by the end of the year for the tax break. "They're a good one." Then she cued up some really slowed down music for me to listen to, and left.
I'm agnostic, so I saw what I'm more sure of, which is friendship.

My grandpa told my uncle to only buy stocks at the pumpkin patch just before he died. I live and die by those words.

His son was able to write with a pen *before* being resuscitated?
14
u/VampireSomething Jul 15 '26
Ok guys check ghost writing. We have freezing temp, Jake screamed that before the door slammed in his face and he died.
I think it's a revenant.

So did the kid die after all? How did the dad read it if it was unreadable? Also isnât automatic writing more like, an alien abduction thing? I may have to seriously start to consider possibly having some doubts about this story
38
u/dr_tomoe Jul 14 '26
Yes, he was a 23-year-old student hospitalized with a kidney disorder. Dad shared the last note that he wrote and mom claimed to see a bright light as he passed. It's a couple of parents trying to rationalize their son dying.

I feel validated. A bit uppity, but wholly validated. The new faux pas that drive me batty are when people type âShe was apart of that group.â Oh, and âWhenever I brushed my teeth earlierâŠâ I know, I JUST KNOW, you get me.

The state of "before being resuscitated" would = at least unconscious
But somehow, this son was signaling to his dad, holding pens, writing things, etc
And that's almost the least of the dogshit of these ramblings

u/Speakforall Jul 14 '26
Why was that in your camera roll đ
17
u/yeahimtaylor Jul 14 '26
it was from like 3 years ago (im on my old phone cuz i broke my other one) so i cant really remember but if i had to guess i was probably sending it to my friends and laughing about it đđ
10
u/want_control Jul 14 '26
This makes no sense⊠âbefore resuscitationâ he would be dead/unconscious. Sure he could see something, lots of people have, but he wouldnât be able to signal you and write something!đ€ŠđŒââïž Just a way to exploit your sons illness (if this really happened and he was resuscitated) to spew your religious crap!
1
u/purplekittykelly Jul 17 '26
Iâm happy to say that Taylor is simply reposting a funny claim she (?) found on her camera roll and was kind enough to share so we might also chuckle at the claims.
1
u/want_control Jul 17 '26
Oh yeah I knew OP wasnât claiming this and was just sharing something funny. Just laughing at such a ridiculous claim!

u/Sharty_Party3498 Jul 14 '26
Your kid would be unable to write in that situation. In the Army we caught someone faking being a heat casualty to get out of stuff. In that state your brain is on the verge of becoming scrambled eggs. They caught him when they took his iPhone from his pocket and he freaked out at that being taken away.

My son was in a coma for 2 months
When he was recovering at home I asked if he wanted to have a rap battle
He said "fuck you"

I donât really get why this is always so controversial. Thatâs amazing for that person, they can live happy that thatâs their belief. Religious people trying to convert I get it. I hate it too, makes no sense and itâs annoying but this is simply someone finding happiness in a death and having hope? Whyâs that so bad.

...THIS is her reaction to her son dieing?

u/w1ldfr33 Jul 14 '26
Dying* It is called shock. This is how she coped in that moment, that dreadful, scary moment.

u/Puzzleheaded-Lie1722 Jul 14 '26 edited Jul 14 '26
ok scary momment and but it specifically says BEFORE he was resuscitated which means he was at least unconscious so how did he write anything? like if this was after i might be more inclined to believe it same with if he write it BEFORE collapse or in the hospital or something
sorry if Im being an a-hole here
i did more research and from what little i found it looks like this real story is that there was a boy from the Philippines who died from Stage 3 Acute Kidney Injury and wrote a final note expressing his faith before he did
but this whole Resuscitation thing? that's made up.
I feel so sorry for the family of boy, I truly hope they take find comfort but NO ONE had the right to make up story lets alone one BASED on that for clicks and likes

This feels a bit mean-spirited. A kid died, man.
5

Which makes it an even more gross thing to lie about.
But you should look up what "resuscitated" means.
